‘I TEACH BECAUSE YOU AND ALL BEINGS WANT TO HAVE HAPPINESS AND WANT TO AVOID SUFFERING. I TEACH THE WAY THINGS ARE.’ – BUDDHA
Buddha is inarguably one of the most influential figures in world history. Over 2500 years ago, this extraordinary man founded the path of Buddhism that encompasses all his valuable teachings. Today, Buddhism is practised predominantly in East and Southeast Asia, and is growing its influence in the West and globally. Buddhism and its tenets have been extolled for its virtues by many great leaders. Even though Buddha never saw himself as a leader, never aspired to be a leader, he continues to be a constant source of inspiration and guidance for many world leaders today. This book is filled with many profound, philosophical yet practical teachings of the Buddha, and lessons that can be learnt from them to be an effective, efficient, and excellent leader and to achieve true success in life.

This book starts with the brief introduction of Gautam Buddha and how he has inspired many people from Samrat Ashoka to the founder of Apple Inc. Steve Jobs.
The book contains 20 chapters, which has profound wisdom of Gautam Buddha narrated from the perception leadership qualities. Here I am summarizing few chapters which I found worth reading.
‘Monk and warrior’, Buddha’s important teaching are to create a blissful awareness within ourselves. Leaders need to have a clear consciousness so that he/she can make any decision or guide the people under them. Buddha’s teaching is for the monk and warrior both so in this case it can be applied to the mystical as well as the material world. The ninja warriors also follow Buddha’s technique to gain a clear and calm mind. Therefore, no matter what you do you need to have a clear and blissful awareness within yourself. In the author’s word ‘The word ‘Bodhisattva’ is very important in this context. It implies one who is seeking liberation not only for herself or himself but also for others.’
‘Action born of inner coolness has great power’ Action which is born out of a cool mind is more powerful than the action born out of a disturbed mind. A leader must make many decisions that can make or break his/her team and people. So, planning with a cool mind is always advisable than vice-versa. The author’s written about a meditation technique called Vipassana which helps to keep the mind cool and clear. Giving an example of a martial artist, the author has written how they use other person’s energy very coolly to defeat them, A leader needs to have this type of quality.
‘Wisdom is transcendental to the mind’ Having true wisdom is important in any field of work. However, gaining a pearl of wisdom is a process. If a leader doesn’t have wisdom, he/she can destroy or bring negativity to the team. As the world faces more crises of every kind, wisdom is needed even more in leadership. Giving an example of the importance of lotus in Buddhism, the author has explained that lotus can remain calm and beautiful in the murky water, the leader should be like this. As per Buddha’s teaching silence and patience is a path of wisdom.
‘Be light’ one needs to achieve inner lightness to have true leadership quality. Buddha’s teaching gives more attention to the inner than outer domain, as leaders need to drop his/her inner turmoil first to see clearly. Leaders also need to leave his/her ego so that they can have clear wisdom. In the author’s words, ‘The good and dynamic leader sheds metal burdens within his own style of thought and action and helps those he leads to do so too.’
‘Let go of Enmity’ “the fault of others is easily perceived, but that of oneself is difficult to perceive.” – Gautam Buddha
Gautam Buddha is an example of leaving enmity as he has remained calm and cool in every situation. The author has written how in today’s world, every person in the organization has a hidden motive and enmity about his/her co-workers. This seems a little thing but on a bigger level, it is affecting you more than the other person. ‘The great leader provides the necessary shade for others to grow and flourish in: She or he creates a mini-ecosystem within which things thrive.’
‘Look at what people are, instead of at what they have’ This is a need of today’s world, and it is more important for those who are leaders. Leaders should have the ability to encourage, identify the strength and weaknesses of their team members, and properly guide them. He/she shouldn’t fall for fake flattery and should create great unity within the team. The leaders need to be talent spotters.
There are many other beautiful lessons in this book which not only help in leadership but also in our day-to-day life.
My perception:
I simply loved this book, the author has beautifully taken Buddha’s teaching and put it from the view of leadership. This is an appreciable effort as many a time, we tend to see Buddha’s teaching only from the spiritual point of view. This book has many useful tips which are helpful to those who are looking forward to a promotion at the workplace and want to lead a small and big team. These lessons are also useful to those who want to start their businesses. Also, it is useful to those who are looking for spiritual salvation. Overall, this is a very precious book, which I recommend to everyone.
Buddha’s teaching explained from the point of view of leadership, this book is an insightful read.
"Make peace within yourself. That is the first step to being truly effective and fulfilled in whatever work you attempt as a leader. The art of inner peace is in the Buddhist perspective a natural consequence of simply 'looking within', watching the flow of your emotions and thoughts but not identifying with them. This non-identification with our inner conflicting thought-impulses leads to a spontaneous inner peacefulness. It is the very crux of the Buddha's meditative process"
Being a Hindu, I don't shy to scream that "Buddhism" is one of the favorite religions that is very close to my heart. Just like Hinduism, I find the happiness of living here. The underneath serenity of Buddhism has astounded me several times. After reading more about them, I have learned that all religions are respected and none of our leaders have said to uplift any particular religion. And that is very impactful. Over 2500 years ago, the extraordinary man the Goutam Buddha's existence has blessed this country. He Said, "He who is full of faith and virtue, In whatever land he travels, Is respected everywhere".
BUDDHA: 'Spirituality for leadership and success' by author Pranay is another treasure for mankind indeed. This book consists of numerous thoughtful lessons, philosophical yet practical views of Buddhism, and many unknown facts. Each and every line has depth and bless as well. It's a very motivational read for me and I will recommend this book to everybody especially those who love spiritual vibes and want to dig more about it. The author's writing style is very lucid like other books so it's very fast-paced. It was a good time with BUDDHA: Spirituality for leadership and success.
This book gives the essential concepts and insights of the ancient Buddhist wisdom for the very core of modern leadership. Gautam Buddha's life and teaching emphasize the essence of leadership from an inner self-awareness, calmness, and moral strength. This book falls within a bigger picture series, which deals with spirituality and leadership, in effect, making the book both a working manual and a philosophical consideration for anybody desiring to lead more mindfully.
Themes and Concepts
1. Inner Tranquility as the Basis for Leadership A recurring idea in the book is that calmness and clarity are prerequisites for effective leadership. Pranay argues that decisions made from a state of internal serenity carry greater strength than those driven by stress or conflict. This emphasis on mindfulness aligns with modern research linking self-awareness to improved emotional intelligence and stress management.
2. Empathy, Wisdom, and Authenticity Drawing from Buddha’s life, the author presents empathy not just as a moral virtue but as a practical leadership tool. He underscores that true wisdom emerges from compassion and genuine self-reflection. By advocating for an authentic expression of one’s inner values, the book suggests that leadership is not about authority or power but about inspiring and uplifting others through personal integrity. Quotes like “The only thing which is ‘yours’ is within you” encapsulate this message, urging leaders to build on their inner resources rather than external validations.
3. Broadening Vision Beyond Personal Identity Pranay challenges the reader to adopt a universal perspective. By urging leaders to move beyond narrow definitions of identity—whether based on race, religion, or social standing—the book promotes a more inclusive and expansive vision. This “cosmic” perspective is vital for addressing global challenges and fostering a harmonious environment both within and outside the organization.
Structure and Content
At just 136 pages, the book is a short, impactful read that distills complex spiritual concepts into practical leadership advice. Its structure is straightforward:
Introduction to Buddha’s Teachings: A succinct overview of Buddha’s life and the core messages of self-awareness and compassion. Application to Leadership: Each chapter ties a facet of Buddhist thought to modern leadership challenges, from decision-making under pressure to fostering an inclusive work environment. Practical Examples and Quotes: The author supplements philosophical insights with examples from history and contemporary figures, reinforcing that every individual has the potential to lead if they harness their inner strength.
Strengths and Considerations
The book has several strengths that make it an engaging and insightful read. Its clarity and accessibility ensure that complex ideas are easy to grasp, even for those new to Buddhist philosophy. By linking ancient wisdom to contemporary leadership challenges, the book provides practical and actionable insights that can be readily applied in both personal and professional contexts. Additionally, the inclusion of inspirational examples featuring renowned leaders enhances the credibility of the lessons and encourages readers to reflect on their own leadership styles. However, there are some considerations to keep in mind. While the book’s concise format is beneficial for quick reading, those seeking a more in-depth exploration of Buddhist philosophy may find the discussion somewhat brief.
Final Thoughts
Buddha: Spirituality for Leadership and Success is a refreshing take on leadership literature. Pranay successfully bridges the gap between ancient spiritual practices and modern management strategies, encouraging leaders to cultivate inner peace, empathy, and authenticity. Whether you’re an aspiring leader or someone looking to inject a dose of mindfulness into your daily life, this book offers a compelling reminder that the most profound leadership qualities come from within.
Overall, the book is a valuable resource for anyone eager to explore how spiritual insights can translate into practical leadership skills, fostering both personal growth and organizational harmony
🧘 A person could easily say that Buddha is one of the most influential and crucial leaders in history. He has established one of the substantial, most well-known religions in the world today.
🧘You must understand that Buddha's path was one of total intensity. He wanted to achieve enlightenment with great speed. But along with that, you would notice a quality of patience. Buddha is a unique combination of both speed and patience. He held nothing back. Speed implies totality, getting results as swiftly as possible. But with the Buddha it also implied waiting with patience, making the journey with patience. And when you make the journey with patience, then you have the ability to create a real relationship with life, and understand the festival of creativity that is this whole cosmic creation.
🧘 Buddha by Pranay is an inspirational book to anyone who wants to make fast and forever transformations in their lives. It will help you realise who you really are.
🧘 Really the way the buddha's teachings written in terms of spirituality and leadership in this book is truly praiseworthy & the experience you will feel is absolutely practical. I Would recommend this book to everyone who want to get true inner peace and satisfaction in life.
🧘 What's unique in this book ?
🧘 This book is filled with many profound, constructive and empirical teachings of Buddha where the author beautifully composed all the philosophical teachings. What was it that enabled Buddha to preside over so much respect that he is still talked about today, almost 3,000 years later? And how can we take those lessons and apply them to our own lives? This book answers these questions in a very nice and subtle way.
🧘 An incredible book. This is a book which gives you profound and elegant enthusiasm. How to positively approach life meaningfully and add refinement to your life.
Must read. A significant and important message for a time of anxiety, and chaos.
The first chapter itself explains the importance of caring for the team. I like how Pranay explains from the team perspective. The need to have empathy for team members and respect for the leader is wonderfully stated. I got to learn about 'Boddhisatva' as well as buddha's monastic order or 'Sangha'. It was quite new for me. It basically stands as a template for how a group or team can be together in harmony.
In one of my most favourite chapters, it has been said that actions taken from silence of being(Sheetalta/ sitibhava) and coolness of being, are much more powerful than actions taken from noise of the mind, of anxiety, confusion and so on. This is one of the most profound teaching of the Buddha to the world. I couldn’t agree more, it immediately reminded me of Captain Cool AKA M.S Dhoni. The innumerable times he has been super cool even in difficult situations on field, and have contributed hugely to the wins is a concrete example of this teaching.
Writer explains the importance of having a positive self esteem, he gives the example of Hitler and how his leadership was more of a dictatorship and thus had proven destructive for the world. He explains the difference between self esteem and ego, and how the latter is dangerous for a leader and humanity on a whole.
Throughout the chapters some you’ll get to learn many teachings to help you excel in leadership. You’ll learn about growing inner power, how to balance speed at work, how to nourish the inner state to begin the harmony, trusting your own experience, why does how we live matters more than what we desire, going from thoughts to awareness, how self awareness and invoking the inner strenth leads to a great leadership path, how ordinary leaders lead through fear and great one’s through vision.
The best thing about this book is simplicity of language, elaboration of points and teachings. The language used is lucid, narration is to the point.
"Bliss is attainable by everyone who walks on the noble path". About how a person is to be like water flowing into any vessel and taking its shape. River water is cool and flowing, yet has great power. So 'being like water ' is an essential Buddha - quality. If you are attacked by the opponent, you simply utilize his own everyday energy, and effortlessly combine it with your own. Then you will become victorious. The cool and collected eye of the eagle is the kind of vision which every person must seek to cultivate. The Lotus flower is taken as a symbol of great purity and wisdom. Because it has the ability to live amidst murky water but at the same time it has the wisdom to survive, flourish, flower, be beautiful be at it's utmost grandeur and potential. Life is like a flowing river if there are no barriers to the river's progress it will flow on its own smoothly dynamically and powerfully. But if there are barriers, then it gets disturbed. The flow gets disturbed. And in human consciousness the only barriers are those which we create. Unburden yourself of them. Feel light and then you become more and more dynamic. A good and positive leader is one who emphasizes common ground and not differences. Essentially any team or society is to be looked at like a forest. All different sorts of trees can grow in the forest. Each tree is not the same as the other but what is common between them is the common ground the earth they are all rooted in. They absorb the same water and absorb the same sunshine.
Buddha: Spirituality For Leadership And Success presents the teachings of Lord Buddha in a simple and easy-to-understand manner. The language used by the author helps the readers to learn life-changing lessons from the tenets of Buddhism and use them to overcome the challenges they face in their professional and personal lives. The book proves to be a great learning experience and its short length ensures that the readers do not feel too overwhelmed or bored by having to read the extensive explanation of various philosophical teachings of Lord Buddha. It is truly an exciting and motivating book that enables the readers to understand the positive impact of spirituality on the level of success attained by an individual. Like, other books in the series, it is one that I would recommend to people aspiring to attain success or become great leaders.
I don't want to talk much about Author Pranay as I feel words will fall short to explain the level of perfection and talent this man is having. He knows how to impress his authors with his book. Again a perfect 5 on 5 for this book.
This is basically a good book to get your life on track but not as the title said for leadership. It helps us a lot to clear our mind and clear mind could focus better. This brings success in all areas in our life. This particular book is all about this thing and with pin point accuracy.
But in terms of leadership, it looks like the Author is trying to implement something forcefully.
What an informative book! Each chapter leaves us with alot of motivation in order to be a good leader. Buddha being the symbol of peace and spirituality, listening to an audiobook describing his teachings is really inspiring.
