Hunting for the strength to avenge his murdered friend, Akira set his sights on reaching the bottom of an ancient labyrinth. There, Akira discovers a huge, talking black cat -- a servant of the Demon King and unexpected ally. After they form a pact to join forces, a magic circle whisks Akira away to the home of his new companion Emilia, the land of the elves. There, unexpected secrets about Emilia's history come into dangerous focus!
I loved this volume so much. Between the cat and getting to know more about Amelia and where she came from, it was perfection. I can’t wait to read the next volume. 💕
The continuing adventures of Akira in the other world.
There is in fact one brief discussion from the other plot thread, those six brought to the world who left the king, which foreshadows a possible issue, but it's mostly Akira.
He reacts to the cat's message from the Demon King, rejects its demands that they kill it, and listens to Amelia's proposed plan to escape the room -- and, it turns out, the maze. And plunges them into Amelia's past.
It deals with her sister's power, a forest, giving the cat a name, two duels, a sneak attack with an arrow and a volley full of arrows, a memory of Amelia's, and more.
What I was really hoping for in this volume was to see more of the cat. lol So, now it has a name and we learn more about its powers. So I'm pleased!
Akira really proves himself to be a great friend and ally in this volume. You don't get to see much of what the other students are up to - there is only a brief scene of Satou planning his next move, and the students who remained cursed by the king of Retice aren't shown at all - but Akira's journey with his new companions moves forward. I loved getting to see a new location and more of this world. And we meet a whole cast of new characters!
Unfortunately this volume ended on a major cliffhanger, and apparently volume 4 won't come out until September! I'm assuming we're caught up to Japan, then, and we don't know how long this series is going to be by the end. I'm really enjoying it and I don't see any way that volume 4 could be the last. Hopefully there's much more to come!
It could've been better. The art quality dropped significantly during certain parts of this book. Night's introduction was okay and they're an alright cast addition. I wasn't super into the other characters and the conflict with them was kind of shallow.
📖 Manga Review: My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s
In this volume, Akira and Amelia finally face off against the labyrinth’s last boss—who turns out to be none other than the mysterious black demon cat. After their fierce battle, Akira accepts the cat as his familiar, naming him Night (though I personally would have preferred if they had kept the original Yoru, since it feels more authentic). Still, I loved the little detail of Akira burying his face into Yoru’s fluffy fur—who knew our assassin protagonist was such a cat person? 🐈⬛
From there, the story shifts to the Elf domain, where Amelia’s family drama and hidden past come into play. This volume is absolutely packed with fast-paced action and intense battles, all beautifully illustrated without ever feeling confusing. The combination of sharp combat sequences, character dynamics, and just the right touch of humor made this one of the strongest volumes yet.
If you enjoy dark fantasy, assassins, and a touch of feline charm, this series keeps delivering!
Akira and Amelia decide what to do with the boss that Akira defeated. Akira forms a contact with boss and names him, Night! After that the Maze gives them away out, by a summoning circle! They go through and up in the Elf Domain. The one place that Amelia doesn't want to be!
I have been waiting on this book and it was good. I only have two problems. The book was too short and it ended on the suckiest cliffhanger. It will take a while to get over my feelings of disappointment 😌😏
This volume felt way to short. It also ended on a cliffhanger before any big plot advancement was complete causing the volume to be much less enjoyable than the previous two volumes.
I like the story but look like to me just when it get to the good part it come to the end and it's a long wait for the next volume to come out. Hopefully the next volume will have the hero party and Akira come together.
This volume felt very underwhelming and unsatisfying. I like the story, but it's just felt lazy to randomly leave the story at that point. Hopefully the next volume is better.
This installment of the series felt rushed as it seems the author attempted to compress Amelia full character introduction into one volume instead of spreading it out among Akira's own journey and story.
Again this book wasn’t as good as the first one, but it was still a great continuation of the series and I thoroughly enjoyed the plot of the story. I can’t wait to see where the series goes from here because this one ended on such a cliffhanger. 4/5 stars.
I love black cats. But it was also cool to see Amelia’s background. I hate when sisters are always shown as fighting but in these specific worlds they put them against each other :/
Akira and Amelia decide to adopt the not-so-0fierce demon kitty. Amelia heals him, and Akira names him Night. Akira and Night form a new pact as master and servant, which will allow the demon king to still be able to see everything with the link inherent between demon king and all demons, but will give Akira and Night special abilities. Night reveals that there are three other dungeons in the world, and each dungeon challenges a different aspect of the character's skills. A portal opens at the end of the labyrinth, and Akira decides to travel to the next labyrinth in the forest of the Elven people, where Amelia is being hunted by her twin sister. With Akira caught right in the middle of the power struggle in the Elven kingdom, will he ever make it to the labyrinth to continue his development?
There is so much about the stories it reminds me of the original Final Fantasy game, including the four Labyrinths that are slightly tied to elements. I’m also always a sucker for demon kitties becoming sidekicks, so I’m sure I will appreciate having Night around. This volume didn’t have as much of Tsubasa and friends, so hopefully we will get an update on how their quest is going in volume four. This is a really fun series and storyline that is getting a lot more interesting than just a RPG turned into a manga.
