Dream It & Do It features one hundred stories of people who succeeded in their chosen career path. These quick, one page stories are meant to inspire young minds and show the possible career paths that an interest can take them on. The book is separated into four sections of career possibilities: artists, helpers, business and discoverers. Featured are a diverse listing of people from all walks of life; some people had many obstacles to overcome, and others were given a helping hand. A commonality that brings all of them together is their passion for what they do. Each person's story gives not only the background of how they found their passion, but their career path and practical advice on what kids can do now if they are interested. What I liked best about this compilation was that it not only highlights the showy careers such as songwriters, musicians, athletes, doctors and high profile inventors, but the careers that people don't hear about as often such as editors, designers, researchers, engineers, data scientists and historians. Each career path is treated equally and shows that each job is important and what matters most is what you put into it. This book was received for free in return for an honest review.
This is such a fantastic idea for a book, I knew this was one that I wanted to read the moment I read about it. There is such a great culmination of jobs, ideas, and chalk full of inspiration for kids of every interest. A favorite part for me was the fact that a few kids were in the book themselves, and many of the adults had stories from when they were children where they made astounding accomplishments. There was a great pool of diversity not just in the jobs and the ideas behind them but the people who thought htem and I was super pleased with this fact. The best part about this book is that a kid can take as much time as they like going through it, they can look by sections or try to find a person they’ve been interested or if they want they can also read it straight from the start to the end, thre is no wrong way to read this. At the end of each job/person there’s a little help on how the kids can get started themselves if they’re interested in pursuing that path and again I was really impressed by that and this book overall. 3.5/5 cups from me, and thanks so much to Rock Star Book Tours and the Publisher for a copy of this in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you Iread Book Tours for a complimentary copy. I voluntarily reviewed this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Dream It & Do It By: Holly Sharp
REVIEW ☆☆☆☆
What do kids say they want to be when they grow up? Princess? Astronaut? Dream It & Do It presents some unique and overlooked career opportunities for children to consider. I like the idea of introducing this type of material early in life because it is a vital part of everything you will ever do.
Presented in an easy to navigate format of a couple of pages and a person representing each career, this book is very interesting and informative. It's different from anything I have seen, and I think kids will interact well with Dream It & Do It. If you have young children, pick up a copy to read together!
What a cool book! When kids are asked what they want to become when they grow up, they often say the popular answers of fireman, teacher, astronaut, or nurse. But there are many career opportunities they haven't been exposed to that may fit well with their strengths and interests.
Dream It and Do It not only showcases a hundred prospective careers but gives examples of well-known and obscure people in these careers and what inspired them and propelled them forward. I love that many of these jobs aren't traditional choices, because everyone has their own unique styles, upbringings, and influences.
The book includes colorful line drawings and informative stories about real-life people and their career choices in the arts, science, business, conservation and so much more. I would have really enjoyed a book like this when I was young. It's an informative book of possibilities that inspires boys and girls to become what they dream to be!
I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. My thoughts and opinions are my own. Any quotes I use are from an unpublished copy and may not reflect the finished product.
Starting the book with Dr. Seuss was a great way to grab my children's attention! They love The Cat and the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?, And to Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street (just to name a few favorites), and really enjoyed learning more about the author. There were a lot of interesting facts - most of them new to me - and even the simple illustrations were wonderful. They were cartoonish yet realistic depictions of people, which helped keep the children's interest, while also conveying what someone really looked like.
My favorite entry (so far) was the one on Judy Burke and Christine French Cully. I loved, loved, loved getting the Highlights magazine as a child, so it was fun for me to learn about how the two of them were involved and what that entailed. "It takes nearly a year to plan out what will go in each issue, which is delivered every month." That's amazing! It means they have to plan and prepare multiple issues simultaneously, which seems like it would be a very hectic endeavor.
We haven't gotten very far into the book, but we've enjoyed what we've read so far and cannot wait to see what other interesting people have been included. (★★★★☆)
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK Dream and Do It is a very nice collection of 100 different people in different t careers that has the potential of helping young child to know what that want to be when they grow up. So often we hear children mention the jobs that are known to everyone but maybe their interest and abilities are for something different. This is where Dream and Do It will come in handy. And I really like that the author sought out so many different people and their stories of how they landed the job they have. I would love to see copies of this book in school libraries as well as any other library where kids of all ages will be looking for career choices. Dream and Do It takes the thoughts are research out of many people’s lives when it comes to helping children find the right things to do with their life. Why not pick up a copy today for that curious child who wants to be everything when they grow up. A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
I got an ARC and it needs a little bit of editing. A couple of names were messed up and some words were run together. I still lack an understanding as to how this can happen in the modern day and age, with all of the easily accessible spell checkers, but I digress. I'd like to see this book become part of a series, with more obscure jobs brought to the table. It was written by a mother for her daughter, so unsurprisingly there are more women mentioned than men. And that was pretty cool. There were only two people who I completely skipped reading about. Ginsburg and Thunberg. I glossed through a few more. J Alexander, Bill Nye, Kizzmehia Corbet, and Stephen Hawking.
Dream It & Do It Motivates, Inspires, and Educates. So many times as I have worked with children (both my own or those met in volunteer settings)--I have sought ways to introduce them to the careers and opportunities available to them in the world outside their limited views and experiences. This book is perfect for doing just that! The author offers short biographies spotlighting a random host of leaders in various fields and career realms. From artists and scientists to entrepreneurs and social activists--the author creates an inspiring roundup sure to inspire any child's interests!
Dream It & Do It Is Easy To Read--& Relatable. The author breaks her spotlights into categories so that young readers will find a handful of biographies related to topics like writers and medicine. This book is the perfect way to introduce children to other careers and passions they may not have yet considered. I love that children interested in writing, for example, can see a range of paths that others have taken that used writing talent to create their careers!
Would I Recommend Dream It & Do It by Holly Sharp? I love this book! It is so easy to be discouraged or labeled or limited as we move through elementary school and beyond. This book is the perfect way to encourage children to follow dreams--and gives them insights into the varied paths taken by others pursuing talents and goals. I would recommend it for every classroom, library, community group & family bookshelf! Dream It & Do It helps show that there is a great, big world out there--with so many ways to use talents and gifts. It is easy to read and loaded with extra tips and encouragement throughout the pages. Great for those seeking to help a child develop his talents and skills and explore interests
I received a copy of this book from the author or publisher for use in a blog review. All opinions are my own.
I thought Dream It & Do It: 100 Possibilities, Stories and Real-Life Role Models was a pretty good read. It is quite inspiring for younger readers. It includes stories from various careers. These careers include: Artistic Writers, such as, comedians and poets Artistic Performers, such as, athletes and social media stars Artistic Designers, such as, stage designers and interior decorators Helpers: Service, such as, pilots and service members Helpers: Medical, such as, ambulance drivers and dentists Helpers: Growth, such as, librarians and parents Helpers: Nature, such as, farmers and zoologists Lemonade Stand Business, such as, economists and investors Product Developers, such as, welders and inventors Discoverers, such as, historians and archeologists Each person highlighted has two pages dedicated to them. There is an illustration of the person, as well as, the importance of what they do. I thought it was a great resource for children to see the wonderful possibilities that they can have in the future. Dream It & Do It: 100 Possibilities, Stories and Real-Life Role Models is getting a very well deserved five plus stars from me. I thought it was a great read. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy learning about others and for those that are about seven to twelve years old. I look forward to reading more by Holly A. Sharp in the near future.
I received Dream It & Do It: 100 Possibilities, Stories and Real-Life Role Models from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
Dream It & Do It is a fascinating book for kids. In clever, easily digestible 2-3 page snippets, readers learn about a diverse selection of people who made their dreams come true. It’s just enough detail to entice young minds without boring them and includes helpful examples of how to take the next step.
Some of my favorite sections include:
Dr. Seuss – Perhaps surprisingly, Ted Seuss Guisel wrote for many years and was rejected dozens of times before a publisher took a chance on his poems. I especially love that his parents wanted him to be a doctor. I wonder if his pen name is his way of appeasing them?
Robby Novak, Kid President – YouTube sensation Robby Novak simply wanted to have some fun in the midst of the 2012 presidential election. His simple sincerity and focus was a breath of fresh air that resonated with many and teaches us all to be true to ourselves.
Maryann Brandon – Ever wonder what is behind the two-hour movie you just watched? Thousands of hours of video footage for one thing. It’s the job of the film’s editor that is at the heart of the moving-making process and young readers will learn about this fascinating and under-appreciated role.
The suggestions at the end include easy ways to start working toward a dream — like keeping a notebook for drawings, using LEGOs to create architectural structures and trying out coding with The Wonder Workshop. Parents might also be inspired to think differently about their children’s interests and maybe even allow a bit of monster drawing or video game time when that is truly a child’s passion.
Dream It & Do It is a good attempt in bringing life stories of 100 eminent personalities representing 100 professions or career options to inspire young minds. The concise format of a 2-page story dedicated to each personality accompanied by an illustration of the related person makes it an easy and fast read. One can choose to pick up any professional's story from the table of contents, at any given point of time, depending upon their interest in a certain person's name or a particular career.
I loved the fact the book breaks down the broader career categories into several sub-categories. For example - The main heading of 'Artists' is divided into writers, performers, and designers. Furthermore, the 'Writer' is divided into poet, song-writer, author, editor, and journalist. It clearly shows an ample amount of research has gone into creating this book.
While there are a few famous personalities on the list like Dr. Seuss, Warren Buffet, Usain Bolt, Ruth Badger Ginsburg, Stephen Hawkins, and Elon Musk, there are a whole lot of other celebrated personalities I was not aware of. This book has been educational for me in this way.
The life stories not only make for good reading but also provide relevant information to the readers as how can young children pursue a particular career, when they grow up, in the closing lines of each story. I found this quite remarkable.
I would recommend this book to the parents of young and old children. The best part is this book is available for free download on Kindle Unlimited in Amazon India.
Let me start off by saying how much I like how this book is set up. It has segments with titles like Artistic Writers, Helpers: Medical, Lemonade Stand (business), and many others. Each segment has several stories or chapters, I am not sure what to call them. They range from Dream of Writing Poems like Dr. Suess or Dream of Helping Improve Sight like Dr. Andrew Bastawrous to Dream of Creating Electric Robots like Hannah Herbst or Dream of Creating Futuristic Machines like Elon Musk. Each one is just two pages but packed with information. Each story tells you about the person and their fields, as well as some challenges they faced while working on achieving their dreams.
I find this book to be well written and suitable for anyone of any age. Whatever you dream of doing, you will surely find inspiration while reading of these remarkable people and their journies. There are many well know individuals included in the book, as well as a lot that I hadn't heard of before, though I have seen, used, or benefited in some ways from the results of their efforts.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that enjoys learning about people who have done extraordinary things, finding inspiration in others, or wants their children to be inspired to pursue their dreams.

This is interesting, inspirational and motivational for all, not just children! Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2021 Dream It, Do It is a wonderful, "easy reading" book for Elementary and Middle Grade aged children but YA and adults may find it very interesting to. It contains a lot of useful information and ideas. It is a great resource for group/family discussions.
This book contains little known facts about Dr. Seuss, some information on the Sherman Brothers who created the song for many of Disney's movies, such as what inspired the lyrics for 'Let's Go Fly a Kite' from Mary Poppins. It, also, highlights many other writers, performers, sports men and women, professional business people and those who serve and uplift.. This book doesn't stop there... Many other successful people, of various occupations, are highlighted in very short stories, 100 of them!
There are many helpful tips intermingled within the ten sections. Encouragement and inspiration is in every part of this book. It urges young children and older youth to "Dream" and ways to approach fulfilling those dreams.
The author has been very thorough in creating this book, yet the scenarios and activities are short and motivating.
*This book was gifted me with no pressure to post a positive review. This is my honest review.
What an inspirational set of stories! This book is jam packed with people’s dreams and how they achieved them. A massive selection of 100 different careers that all started with a single thought. From Dr. Seuss and his dream of writing poems to Paul Teutul Jr. who dreamt of creating motorcycles. Dr. Seuss is one of the most revered children’s authors out there, and Paul Teutul Jr. runs Orange County Choppers. Some of the people are well known and others not so much.
I really enjoyed reading about everyone’s dream and how it turned into something great! A very insightful look into so many different areas someone could ever think of. A great way to teach a child that they can be whatever they want to be. No matter your age I think you will find the book fun & enjoyable. Each person has a 2 page spread with their story. Accompanying each story is a cartoon like picture in color of each person. The title for this book couldn’t have been any more on point than it is… You can “Dream It & Do It!”
Dream It & Do It is a book full of inspiration! 100 Possibilities, Stories, Real-Life Role Models for Girls and Boys is a book that I’m proud to recommend to parents. This book by Holly A. Sharp has included all types of people in this wonderful book.
Inside this 215 page book, the author has included artwork depicting each of the featured persons along with their story. I love that there are every race and ethnic category represented. Children will feel more of a connection to the stories when they can see a picture.
These stories of scientists, architects, mathematicians, chefs, artists, and more are so well-written. These stories will be read by children and give them insight into careers that they have probably never ever considered. These stories could be the inspiration for a child to also want to follow in one of these careers themselves.
What an inspirational book. The author writes in the introduction "Any dream can be creative if you use problem solving and imagination". This book is geared toward all. Especially for kids of all ages, genders, ethnicity and backgrounds that have big dreams and are unsure where to start. There are so many different stories about different career options. My 9 and 7 year old spent so much time going through this and discussing what dreams they had. I love how I even learned about different dreamers and how they turned them into a reality. My wish is to put this book in all K-12 libraries. I received a copy of this book through IRead book tours -- all thoughts are my own.
This book is amazing 👌 my kids recognized several people and that was exciting for them! We read one or two a day. The stories are great conversation starters with the kiddos. I want my kids to dream big and know they can accomplish those dreams. These real life stories are goof encouragement.
Thank you @jaimerockstarbooktours for including myself and my kids on this tour 💙 we love this book so much!
I read this with my 11 and 9 year old. I love how it opens up a lot of ideas and gets them thinking about things they probably had never thought of before. Cool book.
Youth will benefit from this book. Personally, I see it as best for elementary and middle schoolers, but the earlier you talk about possible career choices it will help youth find the work they will enjoy. They can try out all the options out there for them. This book is helpful. It is beautifully designed with awesome illustrations. I understand why this is a reader favorite book. It is wonderful book. I would recommend it for families and schools. It is a nice way to introduce various careers to youth.
