School just got INTERESTING. Not only is Billie's class learning how to P.E.E. in the classroom (don't ask), they now have some very important contacts in the TV world. So as long as Janey McVey doesn't keep doing the splits for attention, and Billie's mums don't keep distracting her with a huge secret thing they seem to be planning... well watch out, because it's time for B.U.G. to make it BIG!
I loved the first BUG diary, and this is more of the same, with plenty of biscuit rating, pretend spellings and doodling chaos!
Janey McVey is back to being pretty annoying at times, there is hot competition for who can find the best treasure, Class 5 get the chance to appear on TV, and Billie's mums are acting VERY suspiciously... could this be the after-Bridesmaid-Day Familymoon that Billie has been hoping for?
Billie is a fantastic character with great supporting side characters, and this plot is funny and action-packed. The only reason I didn't give five stars is that it felt like some of the energy was missing compared to the first book - the conflict was quite mild and easily resolved, so it felt more like a series of short, easy-read vignettes than a novel arc.
The second in Jen Carney’s self-illustrated ACCIDENTAL DIARY series for readers aged 9+ is an enjoyable read with good inclusivity (notably its matter-of-fact attitude to adoption). Billie’s obliviousness is quite endearing, the humour’s silly in a good way and I enjoyed the frenemy thing going on between her and Janey, but there was slightly too many poo jokes for me and the resolution to the Billie/Janey rivalry was a bit pat.
Completely in love with this book series! The way it is written, the topics shown and just the belly full of laughter. Can’t wait for the third book in 2022!!!!
As utterly brilliant as the first. Loving the name Mason 😜 and PEE is exactly what I teach my pupils. They love it! This book is going to be another hit with my class.
This is book two in a series but I read this as a Standalone. It does catch you up from the previous book at the beginning but also urges the reader to read book one first. This has very similar vibes to Jacqueline Wilson. It is written in a diary format, plenty of doodles and illustrations throughout in black and white. Easy reading. Parts had me laughing out loud. Perfect for middle age and younger readers. B.U.G is her nickname and fam gets to her head. She’s a character alright. I loved it. Took me back to my teenage years. Around 300 pages long. Highly recommend. A well deserved four stars from me.
