What do you do when the man you loved a decade ago turns up out of the blue?
Chrisley Bryan has accomplished all that he set out to do when he left home. He’s a shining movie star with more money in the bank than he could have ever dreamed, but even with all of his success, he’s lonely. He’s often thought about the what-ifs in his life. What if he hadn’t left home? What if he hadn’t broken up with his first love?
When Chrisley’s agent signs him up to do a Christmas profile for a magazine, it requires him to return home again for the first time in a decade, where he’ll have to see the first and only man to ever have his heart.
Jay Teller is born-and-raised Hemwick Hill, Texas. He’s never been much of anywhere else, and he never much wanted to. But when the man he used to love turns up after 10 years, his world turns upside down.
Do you ever have those characters that just make you feel alongside them? I swear in this one my heart was just broken the entire time Jay and Chrisley’s were. Kingsley is just that good at making you feel emotions. But I also continuously have hope (I mean, I know Kingsley is going to deliver on that HEA), but it’s also because these two have always been in love with each other and that’s just completely evident. Over the short holiday time period, we get to watch them reconnect, grow, and fall even deeper in love with each other than they were 10 years prior. Probably a little less sweet than your typical holiday read, but it doesn’t suffer for that. It’s very real feeling and another holiday winner in my mind.
2.5. This was unremarkable. Crisley was kind of a cliche, the hollywood actor who is rich and famous but sad and empty inside. Jay did not really have more depth. The way they resume their relationship after ten years was unsatisfying . This is supposed to take place in a small town but I did not get the small town vibe at all because the cast was small.
I was good until half way in, then I’m not sure what happened. One min they were mad and fighting then they are kissing and everything is good. No talking about the huge problem. Then it all wet down hill with being stuck with that same problem not really figuring out, to one giving up on his dreams because the other is unwilling to meet some where in the middle. I like to at least see some kind of growth in characters that make the relationship work, and there were none. I’m a little disappointed in this one.
There is an awful lot of pain and angst here, it will choke you up and bring tears to your eyes, it did for me. Jay and Chrisely are gorgeous, sexy men who completely love each other, their struggle tugs at the heartstrings. A beautifully written tale, both painful and sexy, just remember to get your tissues ready.
Chrisley is an actor, getting fairly big roles, and he hasn't been back to his hometown in 10 years. His agent signs him up for an entertainment magazine profile, which requires him to return home. Chrisley doesn't want to, mainly because he left his love behind and never looked back, and he feels as though seeing him again will be too painful. Jay loves his hometown and never wants to leave it. He has roots and history, and is doing what he wants to do. He still resents his ex-boyfriend who left him behind, but has built a nice life for himself. And then Chrisley comes back to town.
Whelp, this was nice and sweet, but not very memorable. I had to look at the precis to even remember what it was about, not just the character names, which is my usual. I really liked that Jay loved his small hometown, and didn't want to leave, which is usually the opposite of what happens in romance books. And it wasn't because he got traumatized or thinks he couldn't make it; he genuinely loves living where he lives. Chrisley doesn't truly understand this, because he couldn't wait to shake the dust from his feet when he got the chance to live his dream. Part of what bothered me about this book is that neither of the characters could think in terms of compromise. It had to be their way or nothing. I mean, Chrisley's an actor, he could be based anywhere if he wanted to be and travel for jobs. And also: what kind of name is Chrisley? I kept calling him Christie in my mind.
When Chrisley agrees to do a photo shoot and interview in his hometown he knows that he needs to be ready for the emotions that will come with it. Time has not dulled the pain or the love that he has for Jay. Will there ever be a happy ever after for either Chrisley or Jay? Can they find closure and move on or will this be one big disaster?
This is a sweet story about getting a second chance at love. Jay and Chrisley have a strong bond that is still there even after all these years. I enjoyed seeing the two reconnect and try to work things out. The love that they have shows in everything that they do but is it enough? The two make a good couple but they have a lot to work through. The author does a good job of bringing these characters to life and letting the readers feel their emotions. Their story takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and keeps you engaged all the way to the end.
This is second chance romance at it's finest. 10 long years have passed and Jay and Chrisley still haven't moved on. They put on a good show but neither has found happiness. Chrisley takes a chance and comes back to their hometown for an interview, where he runs into Jay and realizes how much is missing from his life. Chrisley must re-evaluate his life and everything he thought he wanted if he's ever going to be happy. Once upon a time, Jay watched him walk away. This time, can he make Chrisley understand? This is a holiday novel that will bring you all the feels and make you cheer for second chances.
This is not the typical feel-good, fluffy Christmas romance that is all sweetness and not much substance. It is a little less sweet but packs a punch more with the emotions behind these characters. Chrisley and Jay were so real to me and I felt the heartache of their 10 year separation bleed through the pages. Their love for each other is so clear, and what we get to see is a love that is meant to be being re-formed to become stronger than ever. It is a powerful and emotional second chance story that will keep you invested in reaching that hard-earned HEA.
Omg this book was so good. A second chance small town romance with a little holiday feel. I felt for Chrisley from the beginning. Sparks were flying off the page when Jay and Chrisley meet back up and I loved it. Jay was stubborn but he had his reasons, which only made me like him so much more. I loved this book all the way through. Another amazing book from Kingsley. If only I had a Jay to Sing me to sleep and serenade me with his beautiful voice !!! Swoon. This is a must read.
First Boyfriend by HQ Kingsley is a Holiday, second chance MM romance that makes you feel right along with the characters. I fell in love with them as they reconnected and tried to work though the emotions and questions of how they can make it work. The story is well told and draws you right in, keeping you invested in their journey.
I'm normally not a fan of second chance romance but this book kept popping up as a recommendation and I'm so pleased I read it. H. Q. Kingsley is a new to me author and I'm happily working my way through all of the other books by this author. This book really gripped me, I stayed up far too late as I couldn't stop reading. Loved it, really great story.
I loved this book. The characters and plot were good. It's about famous up and coming star Christley who left his small town behind to become a film star and work his way up in Hollywood, but doing so he left behind his one true love. He's got an interview with a blog at Christmas, so it's off home he goes.
When I started reading this I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy it. Second chance romances are overdone but there was something about this one that kept me reading. I really felt for the characters and enjoyed the storyline.
First Boyfriend is the first book in the Home for the Holidays serie by H.Q. Kingsley. First Boyfriend is a second chance MM Holiday romance. I loved the story of Chrisley and Jay. Their story was sweet and very well written. Can't wait for the next book.
