So, I love cookbooks and anytime I see one that is 5 ingredients I get really excited about it. Even better, semi homemade, which in my mind is like using a cake mix, but making something else with it and not having to add the flour, sugar etc. because its in the cake mix. When I saw this book, I had to see it. In the beginning of the book, I found some useful tips and information. However, as I looked through the recipes, my excitement faded. While yes, the recipes are 5 ingredients, some of the ingredients are ones that I have never heard of or are very health foodish. Don't get me wrong, I eat healthy but not like this. Yes, you can change keto pancake mix to regular pancake mix and grass fed butter to regular and the pictures look wonderful, but I don't see myself running out to buy this book ( I got it from my wonderful library) However, if you are looking for a cookbook that seems to be very healthy, this might be for you
The title of Bobby Parrish's 5 ingredient semi-homemade meals is truly misleading for those of us who like to eat real food. No where on its cover does it mention anything beyond that, yet if you put in the title for Goodreads, it pops up Semi-Homemade Five Ingredient Meals: 50 Easy & Tasty Recipes Using the Best Ingredients from the Grocery Store. I have no idea where these people shop because those ingredients, for the most part, are not available at my grocery. Also, there is no way in a very hot place that I would ever taste, much less eat any of the recipes found in this "cookbook" (and I use that term loosely. If there was a half rating, my true rating would me one-half star. The only bright spot in this publication is the family photo on the front.
As an aging body I have been studying integrative health style nutrition and eating clean for 8 years which helped me to reverse several conditions. The FlavCity team has done a great job of making shopping recommendations handy with these fabulously clean eating recipes which I Love! I can bake gifts that anyone will love too! Thank you for making this book. (I enjoy the YouTube vlogs too). I highly recommend this book.
This is a good book about clean eating. If you are keto or paleo, you really have to check it out. The author gives thorough explanations for why he uses the ingredients he chooses, and recommends the products he does. The book is full of prepared product recommendations (that's how they keep the ingredients to 5) - most of these are available at Whole Foods or online at Thrive Market. However, several of the product, like those from Primal Kitchen, are pretty expensive.
My family wouldn't eat this way. Also, the book is very repetitive - like the blurb for Rao's sauce appears multiple times, with the same wording. And I caught one or two typos. But I thought there was a lot of good healthy eating information in here, even if you're not on one of the diets he follows. Worth checking out for ideas if you're trying to eat healthier, and it contains full nutrition information. Also, the baking recipes are next level and very different. Not something I'd use every day, but if you're baking for someone who's gluten free, these are great. Again, the product recommendations are spot on, if somewhat pricey.
Love the recipes, the shopping guide, and baby chef Rose! I follow on Facebook as well. Some ingredients are organic bottled, jar, mixed spices so it’s not all from scratch. That’s how they keep ingredients to 5. It has a guide for which recipes are paleo, keto, clean, gluten free, etc. I think it’s great if you are starting to eat clean and wanting to know what BBQ sauce to buy. I think it may get outdated in 5 years when certain products may not be available. Overall great cookbook with lovely photos and videos online to help. Definitely
Interesting kinda fast-foodie recipes made with "cleaner" ingredients and staples. Found a few keepers but overall this book was just a repetitive marketing tool for authors' FlavCity YouTube channel that I had never heard of before reading this book. Includes an ongoing plug for Thrive Market, an online organic market.
This book was so informative. I can’t believe how much I didn’t know about food and their labels. I now know how important it is to read the ingredients. Thank you so much Bobby
Fun to explore, easy to reproduce the recipes.Very helpful8; a transitioning to a clean way of eating. And I love the family centered aspect. Rose adds great joy! Thanks
Love this book so much the information that is given helps a lot with choosing the products to cook with. The recipes are very tasty. Will never regret buying this book.
Just okay! A lot of useful information, however endorsing Whole Foods and Thrive Foods was unappealing. Also, suggestions for items to buy like pasta, enchilada, and teriyaki sauces were either high in sugar or sodium. I don’t understand where honey is a good source for using in baking.
Simple healthy recipes and short easy information about better ingredient choices. I really appreciate Bobby's videos on YouTube so getting some recipes in print is helpful. I plan to make a number of these recipes.
Will check out some of the things in this book. Didn't know it would have so many packaged foods. Was hoping for more whole foods (Eat from the Farm not from the Factory).
It okay, but many of the ingredients are only mentioned at Costco, Whole Food or Thrive market Don't have Costco or Whole Foods near me and do not want to join Thrive market right now not sure if the ingredients are in groceries stores in my area, never saw them, but wasn't really looking
