Mistletoe Montana #3

Her Christmas Soldier

Rate this book
I don’t do it forever. I don’t do Christmas.
And I definitely don’t do emotions.
I was a foster child that never had a home, never celebrated a birthday, and never felt loved.
So when my troops get a Christmas tin full of cookies, I send a thank you email.
That’s what you’re supposed to do when you get a gift, right?
But before I know it, I’m writing back and forth with a sweet, young woman that has hearts in her eyes.
I wish I could give her what she wants, but I know that’s not me.
She’s too young and too happy for the likes of me.
She’s better off without me and I’m better off alone.
That is, until she shows up at my door and gives me a glimpse of what I’ve been missing.
I can be her Christmas Soldier… but now I’m wondering how I’m going to let her go.

I’m going through these Christmas books at a rapid pace and it doesn’t show signs of stopping.

This one didn’t grab me. I just couldn’t feel the connection between them. He was willing to never see her again. If it hadn’t been for her showing up unannounced to surprise him for Christmas (pretty ballsy I might add) he never would have seen her again. He completely cut her off and didn’t even want to remain friends or “email pals”. She was a better person than me because with that kind of brush off, I wouldn’t have shown up there.🤷🏻‍♀️

-no cheating
-no om drama
-ow drama - totally unnecessary other woman drama when a woman that he had went on a date with and things got carried away with (he said he never slept with her)
-no virgins
-no violence
-the epilogue was on 2 month out which made me sad too

Nice story about a soldier that fell in love with his pen friend. Cassie has written to him for over a year. When she learns he is home and alone she wants to surprise him. Gavin likes her but he feels he is too old for her. Will Cassie win his heart?

Loved this sweet couple and the brooding hero. Sadly no virgins here, no cheating, tiny other woman drama when a woman that he had went on a date with shows up at his house. No epilogue with kids which brought my rating down.

3.5⭐️ Short and sweet! I love that they had written for a while before meeting. I thought it might be a bit weird that she just shows up but it was somehow what they both needed. ❤️

Sigh!! 2.5

Cassie has been communicating by e-mail with decorated soldier Gavin for over a year. They have shared many things over the year, including the fact that he has never celebrated Christmas.

It is the Christmas holiday, so Cassie decides this Christmas will be different for Gavin.

Gavin had already made a decision about Cassie and this is where this story lost me. He may have had his reasons, but still I think at least a conversation should have happened. I think Cassie definitely overstepped all boundaries, which fortunately for her worked out. Even though this ended up being sweet and there is an HEA, it was all because of her.

First things first; I really like the cover of this book!
Her Christmas soldier is a novella in the ‘’mistletoe Montana’’ collection. This story is short, fast paced and an enjoyable read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters likeable and the storyline enjoyable. Cassie has written to a soldier for over a year. When she learns he’s home and alone at Christmas, she sets about changing that. Gavin wants Cassie but he feels like he is too old and broken for her. Will Cassie change Gavin’s mind?
The chemistry between Cassie and Gavin is clear to see and I liked them together. I understood why Gavin tried pushing Cassie away but I wanted to shout at him to keep his girl.
I really liked the ending and the epilogue for this story.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read.

The books in this series have been a wonderful way to spend the holidays. Gavin doesn't celebrate Christmas so when Cassie shows up on his doorstep, he doesn't know what to do. They've been writing back and forth and now that he sees her in person, he's not sure he can let her go. Loved their story.

Oh, I loved Gavin and Cassie’s story. They have an unconventional start in that they know each other through correspondence only. The sparks fly even more once they meet. They’re cute together even if they would be unsure of the other. It’s sexy and a feel-food Christmas story.

She is putting the heart is Christmas traditions for him

Her Christmas Soldier by Hope Ford is the third book in the multi-author Mistletoe Montana series. This is the story of Gavin Dawson and Cassie Coleman. If you read Totally Smitten then you may remember Gavin as being introduced as Baker's foster brother.
Gavin is forty years old and had just retired from the ARMY after a twenty-two year career. He has come back to his house in Mistletoe, Montana just in time for the Christmas holidays. Gavin grew up in foster care and it was while he was at one foster house that he met and became "brothers" with another foster kid, Baker. But as a foster kid Gavin did not grow up getting to celebrate things like Christmas or birthday's. So for him the holiday season is not important to him. But last Christmas he received a tin of cookies while he was overseas that was sent by a young woman named Cassie.
Cassie is twenty-five years old and a kindergarten teacher. For Cassie Christmas is her favorite time of the year. Last year she baked a tin of cookies and it was delivered to Gavin. From that tin an email correspondence started between Gavin and Cassie that kept going with them opening up and sharing things that they never would have thought to with anyone else. But Gavin's last email to her was telling her goodbye as he was leaving the Army and he did not say that he wanted to meet her or continue to be friends or anything else. As Cassie knows that Gavin has never had a Christmas celebration she decided, with her sister's urging, to drive the three hours to Mistletoe to give Gavin a Christmas to remember. She has everything loaded in her car that will be needed. But it is going to be a big surprise for Gavin as he does not know she is coming. What will be a bigger surprise is just how Gavin answers the door to Cassie after she knocks.

This is a fun, deliciously sweet and well written story. The characters are delightful as they bumble around, both trying to fight their ever growing attraction. What develops between them is not only sizzling hot and passionate but also emotional and tender. I loved this book and would RECOMMEND it to other readers.

Gavin and Cassie have been email pen pals for a year. It all started when Gavin a soldier deployed oversees, received a tin of Christmas cookies baked by Cassie. They got to know each other pretty well during the year, but never shared a picture of each other. But Cassie loved him anyways. When he retires right before Christmas she decides to go to Mistletoe and surprise him with Christmas and all the trimmings since he never got to celebrate as a child in foster care. He’s surprised when there is a knock at his door and pulls a shotgun on Cassie, she even more surprised and tries to leave, but he chases after her and asks if she’s Cassie. He talks her into coming inside and she explains why she’s at his house, they bring in all things she bought for him and begin to decorate his house. They kiss and it’s everything Cassie hoped for but he seems to not want it, so she apologizes and keeps moving forward. Unnecessary drama when a neighbor who he dated before knowing Cassie comes over and wants to pick up where they left off. He later tells Cassie they had one date and he did not sleep with her. They have their first time together and the next morning to keep from having her again, three time the night before, he gets out of bed and heads out to chop some firewood. Cassie watches him for a while and sees he looks very unhappy, almost mad. She tries to talk to him and it doesn’t go well so she decides to leave. He catches her as she’s getting ready to take her bag to the car. He explains how he’s not good enough for her but he loves her. She forgives him and he goes home with her so she can work till her job ends. Epilogue two months later with him proposing.

WOW!! Fab*u*lous Absolutely love this one!! I couldn't put this one down. This was a nice quick, short read.

Gavin and Cassie met when she goes to his home to help him celebrate Christmas. Cassie sent some of her homemade cookies to soldiers and Gavin was one who received them. So Gavin and Cassie write back and forth to one another for a year before he finally gets out of the army. Gavin never celebrated Christmas before, he grew up in foster care. So Cassie decided to take Christmas to him, she even gets him a present. When Gavin thinks it's too much that Cassie got him something she tells him it's alright because her sister thought ahead and gave her, her present to open. Cassie is embarrassed when she opens her present from her sister. So Cassie decides to go to bed and Gavin soon follows to his room. Gavin can't sleep he hears Cassie walk outside of his room. When Gavin goes to see what Cassie is doing he finds her in his kitchen making warm milk. Gavin then blocks Cassie in and kisses her. Soon Gavin is carrying Cassie to his bedroom where he makes love to her. The next morning when Cassie wakes up Gavin is gone. Cassie finds Gavin outside chopping up wood so she goes to talk to him. Gavin can't even look at Cassie so she decides it's time for her to leave. Cassie goes and packs her bags, but when Gavin comes in he asks her where she's going. Gavin tries to make Cassie understand he wants her. Cassie is shocked and lets Gavin know she wants him too. Two months later, Cassie is packing her things to move to Mistletoe Montana. Cassie needed to give notice at her work before leaving. Gavin asks Cassie to marry him and she tells him yes.

This is such a sweet, heart-melting story and is what Christmas is all about. Cassie is a young woman who loves Christmas. She joyfully shares that love by sending cookies to the soldiers overseas during the holidays. Gavin was the recipient one year. He thanked her and the two of them continued to stay in touch throughout the following year.

Gavin had grown up in the foster care system and never was given the opportunity to celebrate Christmas or other special occasions. So when he is leaving the service and Cassie finds out he is spending Christmas alone, she decides to surprise him and show him what it’s all about when you have someone to share it with. Packing up decorations and a heart full of love, she’s on the road to fill him with the Christmas spirit and a homemade turkey dinner! After the year they spent together through email, both of them realize how much they love each other. It looks like there may be many holidays to come because they know they belong together.

Grab your copy and feel the warmth of the holidays surround you as you share Cassie and Gavin’s story. You won’t want to miss this one!

Hope Ford's contribution to the multi-author Mistletoe, Montana series is the fabulous Her Christmas Soldier, a romantic and steamy friends-to-lovers story. When Cassie sends a tin of cookies to soldiers overseas, she begins an email relationship with Gavin. A year later, the two know each other very well but have never even exchanged a photo. But when Gavin retires from the army and discloses he will be spending Christmas alone, Cassie decides she wants to gift him with his first ever Christmas celebration and shows up unexpectedly on his doorstep. The two having never exchanged photos, the connection they had found through their correspondence magnifies when they see each other for the first time. Gavin is naturally protective - even when he thinks he is the one from Cassie needs protecting - and he is absolutely swoon-worthy.

This is a beautiful friends-to-lovers / older man-younger woman romance that will warm you up on the coldest of winter nights.

Gavin Dawson grew up in foster care. He has been in the military for twenty-two years. Last year at Christmas time, Gavin receives a tin full of cookies. He sends Cassie Coleman, who sent the cookies, a thank you email. They ended up continuing to email each other. They have never exchanged pictures, but Gavin knows that she is too young for him. When he is getting ready to retire, Gavin tells Cassie that he won’t be emailing with her anymore.

Cassie knows that Gavin is retiring in Mistletoe Montana. She drives three hours from her house to surprise Gavin on Christmas Eve. He mentioned in one of his emails that he never had a real Christmas. Cassie loves Christmas and does not want Gavin to be alone for his first Christmas being out of the military. She arrives at his house with a car full of Christmas decorations and presents.

I loved that they were basically opposites. She is so cheery and he acts all grumpy.

This is book four in the Mistletoe Montana series. This series is a multi-author series set in the town of Mistletoe in Montana. It’s a short, fast paced age gap instalove story. I really liked this story and I’ll definitely be grabbing the other books in this series. Gavin and Cassie have been corresponding through emails over the last year. It all started when Cassie sent Christmas cookies to him while he was in the Army. He’s out now and decided to cut off communication because he thinks he’s too old and jaded for her. Cassie wants to give Gavin the Christmas he never had so she’s heading to his place to stay for a few days so he’s not alone. With everything needed to decorate and have Christmas she sets off for his place. Will Cassie change Gavin’s feelings toward her?

A Gorgeous, Sweet Must Read!

Cassie is a sweet young woman who cares for others. Every year she sends cookies to the troops & this year is no different.

Gavin is a hardened soldier who hasn't had an easy life. Growing up in Foster care, he never got to celebrate his birthday, let alone Christmas. When some cookies arrive in the post, he pens an email of thanks to the sender, which then turns into a "pen pal" situation.

Upon his release from the army, he decides that Cassie is too sweet for him & too young, so he tells her that their correspondence will now end.

When she turns up on his doorstep with the whole of Christmas in her car, he cannot believe it - such a lovely, thoughtful gesture that has him rethinking the whole thing.

What ensues is a wonderful love story to melt the readers heart.

Well done Hope. A truly sweet read!

Cute little Christmas novella.
Lost stars due to the annoying cringe smut words .. 'rope after rope', 'painted her womb' ugh and sorry but it makes me eye roll when after 24 hours of knowing someone they say 'I'm really hoping I made you pregnant last night' ewww instant turn off.
Why can't we just have a novella that ends with them having a relationship it's always instant 'I love yous' and proposals.
I would love it better if it was just 'im glad we finally met. I can't wait to merge our lives together and see where it goes'.'
He is a soldier who is finally retired. What is he new plan? He has been in the army since he was 18?? Plans.. why the hell does she have to give up her job that they mention she absolutely loves, and move to him can't he move to her and sort out his life?
Just a bit more realism would have made this great.

This was a really good book.
After sending cookies to a solider for Christmas, Cassie has been emailing Gavin for a year. She found out he never celebrated Christmas since he grew up in foster care.
Cassie decided to surprise Gavin with everything to have a wonderful Christmas. All the fixings even the turkey for Christmas dinner. Cassie wanted his first Christmas to be memorable.
Gavin is so shocked and is enjoying his time with Cassie. This is the first of many Holidays with Cassie cause he is not letting her go.
Gavin is the happiest he has been his whole life and it's because of the Christmas cookies that started it all.

Gavin is an older soldier. Cassie sends him not knowing him a gift of cookies for Christmas. Cassie and Gavin correspond for the next year via emails. When Gavin gets out of the military he wants to stop talking to Cassie since he is older than her and thinks she is too good for him. Cassie has other ideas as she doesn't want to let him go. Cassie knows he never celebrated Christmas due to being a foster kid. Cassie shows up at Gavin's and gives him the best first Christmas he has ever had. With time together they spend they fall for each other more. This is the first of many Christmas's to come for these two lovebirds. Hope has done it again with this love story.

Christmas romance

Short, but definitely hot!!! Gavin was a foster child of "nevers"...no Christmas, no birthdays, no presents, no love, no emotions. He's in service when his troops gets a tin full of cookies. He sends a thank you note and a regular email correspondence develops with Cassie. He shares some of his past with her. Cassie is emotionally attached and has not even seen a picture of him. He realizes she is too young and to happy for him. Just prior to his discharge home, Gavin basically dumps her by email. Boy is he surprised when she turns up at his door to spend 3days and give him his first Christmas. That's all I'm going to say other than a wonderful HEA!!

I read this book as part of Hot and Bothered Book Club's "Santa's Naughty List". It is an instalove age gap romance. I really enjoyed it.
Cassie and Gavin have been pen pals for about a year when Gavin leaves the military. Gavin knows Cassie is younger than him and should not want him in her life. Cassie knows that Gavin has never had a real Christmas and decides to surprise him with one. Cassie surprises Gavin at his house and precedes to set up decorations and a Christmas tree. Since they have communicated many times over the year, they feel like they know each other. Plus there is a spark between the two and it doesn't take long for that spark to flame up.
If you are looking for a Christmas themed, instalove, age-gap romance, then I would highly recommend this book.

When Cassie sent cookies to the soldiers overseas she never expected to find love. Gavin is one of the many soldiers who received the cookies and when he sent a thank you note he didn't expect that they would still be writing back and forth a year later. This is a sweet, holiday novella about two pen pals who find love in an unconventional way. I enjoyed reading this story and how Cassie and Gavin's love grew with each email they wrote. Her Christmas Soldier is a great addition to the Mistletoe Montana series and I look forward to reading the rest of the series I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Gavin has never celebrated Christmas due to his foster child upbringing. While in the army, he strikes up a pen-pal relationship with Cassie. A connection forms and deepens, but Gavin is too afraid to take the next step. Cassie is determined to bring Gavin as much Christmas cheer as he would allow, but she's also curious as to how things would work between them. Will her determination spell the final end, or will the magic of Christmas woo them both?

This is a cute-sy Christmas read with all the holiday trimmings. Cassie is the lead here, with Gavin along for the ride. However, it's a quick, low-drama read that most instalove fans will enjoy.

This short Christmas novella was quick and spicy. I enjoyed the story and where it was heading. As it’s a 54 page novella I can understand it’s hard to fit everything in or expand. They have been pen pals for a year as he was in the Army. But he has returned home and she has surprised him by showing up to his place to celebrate Christmas as it’s never been a thing in his life before. I did have fun and laugh along with the book. I also enjoyed the spice.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book, it is an entertaining sweet and clean holiday romance.

Cassie loves Christmas, she even sends cookies to the soldier overseas during the holidays. Gavin was the lucky recipient the previous year and they communicated by email all year, now he's leaving the service and Cassie is determined to win his heart by gatecrashing his lonely Christmas and showing him what love is like.

Well-written, fast-paced and quick to read, a delightful story. Wonderful characters. Loved it.
