I knew going to work for movie star and party boy Harper Royce was a mistake.
It was a bigger mistake to sleep with him, but here we are.
At least this situation is temporary. I’m on the verge of a major breakthrough with my musical career, and then my days of working as a personal assistant are over. As long as I don’t fall for Harper, this should all work out just fine.
If only he wasn’t drop-dead gorgeous, but I can resist a pretty face. When he starts showing me his vulnerable side, though? Well, now I’m in trouble.
This light-hearted, opposites attract gay romance features a spoiled Hollywood A-lister, his long-suffering assistant, and a loopy chicken. It’s set in the world of Alexa Land’s Firsts and Forever and His Chance Series, but it absolutely can be read as a stand-alone.
Sweet and romantic. I just adored these two. I loved that it was Phoenix, who always seemed to have his act together, that had the most growth here while Harper, who seemed so scattered was really, for the most part, happy and content while being scattered.
They were really a sweet couple and I had a lot of fun reading them and their feather-baby Loco.
His Assistant is a fantastic romance by Alexa Land. The third book in the His Chance series, it's a wonderful addition to the fun.
This is a tale of a Hollywood actor and his assistant falling in love. Harper and Phoenix are total opposites who need one another to balance their personalities. One's a free spirit while the other's too serious and too rigid. I love the way they mesh and the way their relationship plays out. They are just so damn much fun together.
There's plenty of issues for the men, Phoenix especially, to deal with. Phoenix's relationship with his twin is a huge factor in his personality. I absolutely love the layers involved between the two and the way their tale carries out.
And, damn, the financial differences make things tough for Phoenix. He struggles with the rich, entitled people he works with. He struggles with his assumptions and has a major inferiority complex. As well, his stubbornness for independence is his biggest flaw.
As for Harper, I enjoy the way things unfold for him. He's always been closeted, but with Phoenix he's found the one worth coming out for. It makes for some great scenes.
In the end, I love the way everything develops for these men. Harper is just the man to help Phoenix in his personal and professional life. And Phoenix is just the man to do the same for Harper. It's all wonderful and I couldn't have asked for anything better.
As usual, I love the writing style. The characters are nicely layered, and the storyline is a great mix of serious, sweet, and funny. Alexa never fails to tell a heartfelt romance in her unique way.
His Assistant is a beautiful romance. Alexa Land combines charming moments with character growth and humor throughout. It's a perfect addition to her series for me.
If you haven't yet read an Alexa Land book, you seriously need to start now. Just start with Way Off Plan, book one in the Firsts & Forever series, and enjoy the world that Alexa has created in her three connected series. You won't regret it. I could re-read these books every day if I had time.
Told in only in Phoenix’s POV. Even though I would have killed to know Harper’s thoughts.
This book was more angsty than I thought it would be. Mainly because Phoenix had serious problems with his self esteem. It was sad. You could tell Harper was seriously hung up on him but Phoenix almost missed seeing that. This was very sweet and hot in parts. I was happy the way things ended and it was a bit surprising tbh. I’m glad Phoenix was able to have a long overdue discussion with his brother as well. I’m really enjoying this series and hope for a book 4. Maybe Harper’s brother, perhaps??
OMG! We we got a peek of Nana. ( First and Forever Series. If you have read it, correct that mistake now.)
It is always a reader's pleasure to read an Alexa Land story. This was no exception. Well written characters that make a reader love them. Crazy situations. Tender moments. Most of all love. Always an excellently edit book.
Gah! I loved this book! My heart was all mushy from reading this even though I shed some tears at the low angst and my heart went to to Phoenix. I so wanted to hug him. I Love Phee! I loved Harper too even though I got mad at him once, but most of the time I was laughing and awing at him. Can’t forget Loco or the dogs to love too. It’s a great book and I’m happy Phoenix got to get his HEA with Harper. They both knew each other well and had great chemistry and when the ILY’s came out, I cried because I’m a big sap. I so didn’t want the book to end. So good. A Must Read!
Amazing story. Well written, funny and charming. I love these characters and the pets were so cool they added so much life. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
A lot of things happened in this book.

I’ll keep this pretty short because I have the same things to say as the first two in the series—my biggest complaint is I wanted more build up. Phoenix and Harper have history and I wanted some of it. I also felt like the ending was super rushed.
Other than that I loved getting to know Harper. He is such a marshmallow that was completely smitten with Phoenix. Although he really is a man child, he is the absolute sweetest and I adored him. Phoenix both broke my heart and frustrated me with his insecurities. He’s spent his life doing for others and never giving himself the chance to shine. I loved how Harper encouraged him and was confident enough for the both of them. I’m also glad that Dallas and Phoenix worked out their differences.
Again, we get a sweet read that has side characters you can’t help but love and want to root for in their own stories. I’m looking forward to seeing where their stories lead.
Harper and Phoenix just stole my heart in this delightful romcom from one of my favorite authors, Alexa Land. I’ve pretty much adored every book she’s ever written, but this one was just so freaking sweet! Harper and Phoenix just couldn’t help adoring each other and complemented each other so well. The romance felt very natural, and I also loved seeing Phoenix and Loco’s relationship develop as well. This book also made me laugh out loud several times. Alexa is so good at writing hilarious chaos and I’m so glad to get a bit of it in this book. I also feel like she can’t dangle Hudson and Kel in front of us like that without following through so we’d better be getting their story at some point!!! These “His Chance” books have just been a joy to read! Can’t wait to see what’s next for Alexa!
It is always fun to read an MM romance about movie people. Usually though I get caught in the unrealistic premise of it all. Such is not the case with His Assistant. Someone here knows the show inside out and is able to wind it around a very nice happy love story. That someone would be Alexa Land and she has magic at the end of her typing fingers. I read His Chance 1 and 2 a while ago but I am going back to do them again. Some other characters from other Land works show up here in a nice way. It sort of burnishes the reading with some past enjoyment into the present. Does that make sense? If not, read the books.
I’ve read one of Alexa Land’s other stories but didn’t realize it until I finished this and started looking around to see if in fact I had. I just reread my review of it and the exact same things could be said of this book. This was a cute story with some things that made me smile without a doubt. And I read until the end because I truly was a little invested in the guys and wanted to see what happened. But something about the way she writes dialogue just seems a little forced and unnatural to me.
This is the third book in His Chance series and is about Phoenix - a PA with a famous twin brother musician and Harper - a film star who Phoenix agrees to work for despite having worked for him before. This is an opposites and they are definitely opposites, attract story involving chickens, a former service dog and learn just who and what you want in life. Look forward to the next book in the series.
Alexa’s stories are always a joy to read and this was no exception. I loved Phoenix and Harper so much. Their love is sweet and romantic, and they work well together. This had Alexa’s signature humor; I laughed at so many parts. And Loco definitely stole the show. I think I know whose book is next and I can’t wait!
This was a really sweet, funny, witty and happy read. I love Alexa Land’s characters and their funky personalities. I also love how each book ends up tying into the entire series. Phoenix and Harper balance each other perfectly, once they muddle through their feelings for one another. Thoroughly enjoyed this book 😍📚❤️
Oh my , such a wonderful read. Phoenix has such low self esteem because of his famous twin and his upbringing. Harper is a Hollywood superstar and wants Phoenix, so he persuades him to be his PA again. Not an easy road, but one that they did overcome. Loved it!
Harper and Phoenix 's journey was fun beautiful cute adorable full of banter and so much fun to read I loved every word of his assistant they were also some intense moments too
I was so hooked on harper and Phoenix 's story i was so excited to read every page
By the time I finished his assistant my heart was so happy and full
I am familiar with Alexa's stories and this one seems rushed, no drama, and if you're looking for M/M sex, btw, keep looking. Story was just rushed through with no drama, nothing really to hold your interest; boring, actually.
This is a rarity in books regardless of their gerns. It has funny moments and sad moments. None of them seemed forced. This is the closest to a real life happening than most. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoyed reading.
Once I started this one, I couldn’t put it down! Phoenix and Harper are simply wonderful. I laughed and cried and just felt awesome reading their story.
It was great to see the less bratty diva side of Hollywood A lister Harper after being introduced to him in the previous book, turns out he just needed the right kind of love
Loved Harper! He was so sweet and vulnerable. I don't know how Phoenix didn't know he cared for him because his feelings flew off the page! Really enjoyed this book!😍
