This was a difficult book to read, and not only because of the topic. I told my wife that I want to have a better habit of reading nonfiction and she asked me to read this, so we have a good sense of prepping for our special needs son some day. You would expect from the specific title here that the book would walk you through the steps of securing a trust and trustee. It does do that. But it also explains everything about wills and lawyers and all sorts of information I found more confusing than helpful. It’s like a detailed map of a city without directions. There was also a lot of non specific information about raising children with or without special needs. I wasn’t clear who the audience was. Either the parent, designated guardian, or random people who should know more about special needs. Might have been all three in different places. Lots of great information without references. There were several mentions of laws in US, specific states, or UK, which left me confused when the location wasn’t mentioned. Lot of material about coming to terms with having a special needs child. But a reader looking for this topic should be past that stage. Lastly, there is a lot of advice on raising functional children with special needs. Great advice. Autism is a very wide spectrum though and this doesn’t really touch on the non functional who are unable to have conversations or have jobs. I’m still giving a good rating because it was actually very well written with no obvious proofread errors. The author put a lot of work into this. It was just constant information overload and very nonspecific.
