From an award-winning author with more than one million books sold, a new series of four heartwarming historical romances about life on the California trail. Note: each book can be read as a stand-alone.
Faith White needs to get safely to California. She’s desperate for a fresh start after being jilted by the man she’d planned to marry. There’s nothing left for her but memories and disappointments and a lost love.
For years Gideon Holder slaved away in a coal mine to save his father from going to jail. He earned his father’s freedom but lost everything else that mattered--including the woman he loved. Now Gideon plans to make up for lost time by searching for gold.
Gideon and Faith are shocked and dismayed to discover they’re both on the same wagon train to California. Gideon doesn’t want Faith to know about his father’s secret shame. Faith only wants to avoid the man who broke her heart. They vow to stay far away from each other, but that turns out to be impossible when they are assigned to travel as part of the same unit. Can the adventures and challenges of the journey make them realize that their love is still alive?
Linda Ford grew up devouring books and making up stories in her head—often late at night when she couldn't sleep. But she hadn't planned to write. Instead, she dreamed of running an orphanage. In a way, that dream came true. She married, had four homemade children, adopted ten and lived (at times, endured) the dream.
Writing first took her to non-fiction human-interest articles for newspapers and eventually a non-fiction book about tuberculosis set in the 1930s and 1940s (Touched By The White Plague). But romance had always been her first love and she turned to writing love stories. She is multi-published in the CBA market.
She lives on a small ranch in Alberta, Canada, where she can see the mountains every day. She and her husband continue to enjoy their children and grandchildren.
An exciting story of people traveling by wagon train to California
I love Linda Ford’s books and this was one of her best stories yet. It told of the many trials of a wagon train headed to California and the people willing to risk their lives on such a venture. I’ve traveled by car many times from Missouri to California and found it very tiring by the time we reach our goal. As we travel I often think of the people who were willing to make this trip in wagons and on foot. I can’t imagine the work and personal stamina these people had to make such a trip. Linda did a great job of creating realistic characters and weaving a story around their journey to California. Faith was the main female character and Gideon was the man who had loved her and left to marry another woman years ago without telling Faith. She struggled with her still hurt feelings and wondering if she should forgive him. There were some sad parts in this story and one of them brought tears to my eyes. I was surprised that the book ended before they reached California, but I imagine there will be other books to complete this journey. I can’t wait to read them.
The author has penned a sweet and heart warming story of lost love, unforgiveness, hurt, adventure, and romance. This is Gideon and Faith's story and the character development is excellent. Gideon and Faith had a past history of the promise of love and a future; then Gideon disappears with an explanation from his uncle that he has left to get married. Faith and her family join a wagon train headed to California and to Faith's dismay, Gideon is on the wagon train. Once she finds out the reason Gideon left her those two long years ago, will she be able to forgive, forget and love him again. Be sure to read this excellent story to find out. I know you will enjoy it.
Gideon had declared his love for Faith then left two years before with no explanation. When they both joined the wagon train going west to California, they never expected to see each other. Through events on the wagon train, Gideon proved that he was still the man she fell in love with. All she had to do was forgive him, forget the past, and look forward to the future. This story told of the harsh conditions and sorrows that many families experienced while going west. Their faith and trust throughout this story showed a dependence on God and His plans as He made a way through the wilderness.
I found this book really interesting. It must have been really hard when they decided to cross the prairie with all of it’s hidden disasters. So hard for Faith seeing Gideon again after he left her with no explanation. To see bravery of families when crossing rivers with their wagons. Meeting Indians and seeing good when bring back wee boys but next time wanting payment for crossing their land. A great story of trust and forgiveness which sometimes takes a long time e to admit it. Great ending too. Pleasure to be able to a review on this book as it was free for me.
Linda Ford has written another excellent novel. Circumstances had driven Gideon and Faith unexpectedly apart two years prior. Now, they meet again on a wagon train bound for California. Through trials and tribulations, they consider lessons about forgiving and forgetting the past. I especially appreciated the research and realism about the challenges of being part of a wagon train in this sweet, clean-cut story.
This is th beginning of their great journey to the farthest of the west. This tale was written by Linda Ford and she has poured so much adventure and excitement on to each page. Gideon and Faith each have such sorrow from their past and it seems there is no hope for their future together, only God knows the recipe to build a beautiful and loving future. You will enjoy discovering how they find their way to that beautiful, loving and happy future together.
On the wagon train to the West after the death of her mother, Faith is quite surprised to see a familiar face. The face of someone who had hurt her terribly a couple of years before. He professed his love for her and then left the next day to marry someone else. What happened? Why was Gideon back on a wagon train going to the West? Why was he alone? Can Faith forgive and forget?
Good story, Lots of action and adventure in the OVERTLY CHRISTIAN and it's only the beginning of the wagon train journey.
The characters aren't expressly described, We learn about them through their words and actions. The only fault I found was the admonition to "trust your heart. Follow your heart. It will never lead you wrong.” The Bible clearly tells us that every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood, and that the heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.
Lots of details,a good story based on faith, sorrow and a happy ending. Well written. Anytime a story touches my heart and tears run down my face and I feel what the author was trying to say.....well this was that for me. I don't like reviews that tell what happen in the story so I want others to hopefully feel like I do and enjoy a well written story!
This is another great story by Linda Ford! I really enjoy her stories, and I'm looking forward to book two in this series. I love that her characters are relatable and the plot is very interesting and really draws me in as a reader, but is also realistic. Miss Ford is quickly becoming a favorite!
A wonderfully written book about the joys and challenges faced by the brave families who left everything behind to seek a new beginning in the American west. Touching and spell binding, get a box of tissues out and settle in for a few hours of reading you won't soon forget!
This is a beautiful story. I laughed, I cried real tears and it made me think and contemplate some of my own life and feelings. Linda Ford is a great author, putting together such a real life adventure. You can feel yourself travelling along the dusty roads and listening in on the sincere conversations. I really do recommend this book!
A lovely story of love and forgiveness. As maturity came into the lives of two young people they realized that forgiveness was the joyous path to their future. I liked this story and it godly theme. It is worth reading because there are wisdom nuggets hidden away in this story. Pick up a copy today_(
Wonderful relatable characters walk with the reader into a story of sorrow, hope and happiness. Hurt, abandonment, joy and faith wash over the reader as they cheer for future promises and cry with heart rendering tears at opportunities missed and cues unread. A story you will not put down. A definite must-read.
This story provided a story of ups and downs as a wagon train of families travels to California each with dreams of a new life. The story was clean…my only criticism is that there were several spelling and grammatical errors that would have been eliminated by a good editor or proofreader.
This is a heart Wrenching tale. Faith in Gideon history causes a deep divide but their faith in God helps him to see through many difficult situations that their love is forever. Are you sure you have tissues ready.
She was in love and they had talked about few things but there was never anything sure as to the future. She just had hoped they were going in that direction. Then he disappeared and she was confused.
They are traveling west, a preacher and his two grown daughters. The oldest thinks she sees the man that dumped her. She later finds out it is him and he’s traveling with the train. This is Gods way of healing her and letting them find their love and life again.
Hope was a little pushy. I kept thinking she should mind her own business and let Faith make her own choices. But in the end she came through and surprised me!
When a face from your past comes in an unexpected place, one questions themselves. Learning to get through the pain of the past hurts. Trusting God to help guide the future.
The Oregon Trail was a harsh way, and by faith alone was it sometimes bearable. God works in mysterious ways, these two need to grow to fully appreciate their life. Beautiful story.
Gideon & Faith have a troubled past, and Faith has hardened her heart toward Gideon. She refuses to forgive him even after he explains what happened when they were separated. Hardships, and doing hard things brings them ever closer.
It took the whole book for her to get over him leaving, even though he hadn’t asked her to marry, she was assuming. His mistake was not explaining why until 2 years later. Love did conquer all, eventually.
