King Archon is a dominant, ruthless hunter interested only in war and conquest - much to the sorrow of his advisors who insist he should select a mate and produce an heir.
To escape the expectations of court, Archon travels to break a human rebellion. When one of the human females defies him and escapes his wrath, she marks herself as his prey. He vows to hunt her to the very end of her world and exact punishing justice on her tender flesh.
A young human woman has almost no chance against an all powerful alien king, but Iris is not as weak as she seems. This will be Archon's most dangerous hunt yet.
This enemies-to-lovers alien romance features dark themes and wicked acts. Reader discretion is advised.
Amazon Top 100, USA Today bestselling, and #1 bestselling author in multiple Amazon categories, Loki Renard writes sizzling hot, occasionally dark and twisted stories of dominance, submission and discipline.
The Alien King's Prey is the first book out of the Royal Aliens series. I picked this book up because I highly enjoy Loki's stories. Two, I found this book while searching through KU to find something different and that is exactly what I found.
The Alien King's Prey is a wonderfully written story about a King Archon that finds no one in his court desirable anymore. But he does find the hunt desirable and there is one woman that makes him hunt her.
Iris thinks that Archon has destroyed her homeland and is running from the king. But that only turns him on more. These two are interesting characters that I loved to read. What a great start to a series.
This is one of those books where the hero and heroine spend almost no time talking, but after three noncon episodes, they’re suddenly in love. I couldn’t buy that, particularly on the part of the heroine, Iris.
I also struggled with the society presented here. It was hard to understand the role of a king, or what the court did around him, or how the interplanetary system worked. People were taken places they supposedly couldn’t leave, but they did. People who were supposedly primitive were instantly comfortable with interplanetary travel.
Renard is a strong writer, and she uses an interesting voice in this book, especially in the latter quarter. But I didn’t feel engaged in this couple or their relationship.
Archon is a monster with a hint of human genes. Poor Iris is all soft human flesh with the will of a warrior. When Archon sets his sights on Iris, she runs as any good prey would but Archon is a hunter and part animal, tail and all and boy does he make good use of his tail. Although King Archon is royalty and expected to mate to breed more royals, he's set on mating Iris. Iris is strong, but fears Archon and drawn to the attraction she has for him. Archon is worse, he wants Iris and will do what he needs to, to get her. There are quite a few seriously sexy scenes even some where Archon actually takes Iris in public. I enjoyed the cat and mouse chase, capture and release these two go through. There is a very happy ending, which I appreciated. I am looking forward to the Alien Kings Pet, I liked the peek we got at the next H.
The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I found and well constructed sentences. The world building was competent, if not a vibrant character in itself. The characterization was well done, with both hero and heroine being sympathetic individuals with strengths and weaknesses. The development of the romantic relationship was rough, adversarial and hot. This novel had a heat level of five chili peppers. The plot and pacing were exciting, meaning that I read this novel in one sitting. This novel had a medium amount of well justified angst and high stakes, which tends to be one of my preferred narrative structures for a romance novel. This novel used the Enemies to Lovers trope. The world building was three stars. The plot and pacing were both four stars. The characterization was five stars and the development of the romantic relationship was four stars. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of four stars. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a big plus. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy dark sci-fi romances with BDSM elements. I look forward to reading the next book in this series when it releases. I will probably not buy myself a keeper copy of the novel at this time, though I may in the future.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I read the third book in this series a little while ago and in that review I mentioned that of all the books in this series, the first one would be the one I'd be most likely to check out. And then it was free the other day, so of course I got it. Sadly, I was disappointed with it. I didn't like either of the main characters. Iris because she was just annoying as hell with everything she did and demanded. Archon because he let Iris walk all over him and he catered to every whim she had.
The first chapter really had me thinking that this was going to be a really good read. A beastly, dominate alien king who finds his greatest prey and relishes in the chase. But it really only lasted the first chapter. Chapter two has us going back in time a little bit where Archon is lamenting the boring life of a king that he fought so hard to gain. He's not meant for politics, finding his greatest contentment in the heat of a really good fight or hunt. His council is pushing him to mate and produce an heir, but he has zero interest in a woman that wants him. Instead he wants one who will fight him and be worthy of him. Little did he know he would find that in some tiny human woman on one of his colonies.
Iris lives with her (large) family in a farming village. When her father leads a rebellion of a sort against the aliens that rule them by hoarding food and not paying their taxes, it draws the attention of the alien King they didn't even really believe existed. Iris had been out of the village when Archon shows up with his mechanical dragon and burns the entire place to the ground, and seemingly kills everyone present. It doesn't take long for him to realize she's watching him and to give chase, which is actually when chapter 1 takes place.
Up until this point, the story wasn't all that bad. But after Iris escapes Archon's clutches the story just went down hill. Iris goes traveling from village to village, all alone for miles and miles mind you, telling her story over and over. And as all stories do, the more it spread the more out of control and ridiculous it becomes. But she keeps going, trying to spread her father's rebellion. Meanwhile, Archon has become obsessed with claiming and taking this human woman. He's disappointed with how easy it is the always track Iris down, but he is quite pleased with how much her body wants him. The relationship between these two is nothing but a lust/hate one. All the way until the end. By then Archon realizes he loves Iris (who knows why) and when he rescues her from a fate of her own making, and also gives her back what she wanted most, Iris finds herself in love with him too.
I think this could have been so much better, but as is, it wasn't a waste of time, but it wasn't worth it either. But, hey, at least I didn't pay for it.
Loki Renard is a talented author. I think I have read almost all of her works. Among those, I rate The Alien's King Prey in my Loki Renard's top 3. It is that good.
Archon is a powerful king. He is a dominant dragon-hybrid breed, including his domineering personality. While he was dealing with some minor conflict in one of his territory, he met Iris (FMC). Due to certain circumstance, he hunted her down and so the game began.
I love the premise, the plot and the connection between Archon and Iris. Iris is his perfect match with her smart, adventurous and rebellious (yet sensible) nature. She knows how to fight and when to pick a fight (which I feel is necessary for the heroine in spanking romance). Iris is a brat but a sensible brat.
The plot emphasized on Archon and Iris with their cat and mouse game. Not too much of secondary characters stealing their air time, which is great. The story flows very well.
In my opinion, I don't think that the story is that dark or contains any trigger. Archon was not as ruthless as he tried to make every one feel. And there is some humor making the tone softer.
........contains some spoilers below..... .. ...
I was surprised when Archon gave up the hunt after that public display. It was not his character at all. This is probably the weakest part of the plot. Though some could argue that falling in love made Archon confused and do something out of character.
I like this. You have to read it as a Loki Renard book, with all her hilarious over the top phrases and banter and situations. But they always make me giggle and are hawt as hell so I'll take it. This series seems to be leaning to the chase and the exhibitionism and I am here for that. 4 stars because there is a lot of little inconsistencies and editing issues and I know the author can do better.
This author is quickly becoming my go to author when I want a juicy and steamy sci-fi Romance!! What will King Archon do when his most trusted advisors tell him he needs to start settling down and produce an heir? Sneak off and try to stop a human rebellion. There’s just one catch- Iris defies him and he vows to make sure she gets what’s coming to her. It’s a mating dance that I want to be a part of!! I can’t wait for the next installment of this series!
I seriously loved this story. Her writing is always so witty and this was no exception. King Archon is a riot and definitely not prepared for the feisty human.
I laughed a lot in this one & cannot wait for more of the series.
I like Lori Renard but this needs editing. There are mistakes in almost every line. It throws the story off when you have to reread sentences constantly.
Short, fun and entertaining read in a crazy, fantastical way!
Short, more simple and straightforward than I expected, yet still a fun and entertaining read in a crazy, fantastical way. A dominant alien king use to taking what he wants and a human female on an outer planet in his realm where he has traveled to quell a rebellion taking place in her villiage.
He is not loved by some of his nobles and advisors because he does not adhere to traditions. He does things his own way and many believe him cruel and uncaring, an image he encourages for his own reasons. She believes he killed everyone in her village, including her family; that they all died when the king burned the village. She saw the fires as she was returning from the forest where she had been collecting herbs.
He senses her watching and sets out to hunt her. Though he could capture her easily, he gives her a sporting chance. He does capture her 3 times, and she manages to escape, but in truth he allows her leave because he realizes he is enjoying the hunt and he is intrigued by the little human who is not afraid to stand up to him.
He uses her each time he captures her and her body responds to him though she tries to deny it because she hates him for destroying her family; even the time he punishes her for her insubordination by spanking her and taking her in public. (He comes from a culture where the first mating of a king and his mate must be witnessed by the noble court so public displays are nothing to him.) So in their fourth encounter, he has much to make up for, but the little human is about to find out there is much more to this king than first meets the eye and that you shouldn't always believe what ears hear or even what your eyes see.
Was not a bad read. I think it kind of falls into a enemies to lovers / dark/ insta-love. Archon is a warrior king who his court doesn’t understand. Iris is a human serf who’s village is revolting. Which is how they meet and the adventure begins. I wish the book was longer i feel like it could’ve been so much more, it ended especially while I was enjoying it ! I want to leave a warning though there’s scenes of public sex which isn’t my thing but I just skipped over those and it didn’t take away from the book.
Sure, this story does contain nonconsensual sex. Whether or not you agree with it is up to you. If you have any qualms against it, then don't read this book! You have been warned. No complaining.
I guess this what happens when a king of way too much authority over too many star systems in time and space gets bored. So when a small planet (not Earth) has several villages giving the reigning lord to the high king trouble by not paying their taxes (and we ARE talking humans doing the nonpayment), he decides to evade choosing a mate by going to said planet and dealing with these rebels himself. So when he transports an entire village into his ship and decimates the buildings to the scorched ground, he makes the colossal mistake by not trapping her within his ship. She had sneaked out of the village to hunt to herbs, thus evading the high king and witnessing the destruction of her village. She doesn't know that every villager was safe from harm. Not from her point of view. So she visits tavern after tavern, village after village, professing her grief and fomenting more rebellion by urging others to stop paying taxes to their local lord.
You can see where this is going.
There really isn't that much to this story other than the king eventually realizing she is his mate and goes back to take her away with him. Strange tale. Could have done better if it had been edited better. Too many misspellings. Also, I'm rather lost and confused towards the end when he says one thing then does something else despite the fact that he originally said he couldn't. HUH?? Too much unopposed power. I won't even get into the wayback machine effect that suddenly appears. Sorry, not buying it.
Not sure what to recommend. I like this writer, but this isn't one of her better stories, that's for sure.
Archon has clawed his way to the position of king within his galactic territory, but to really cement his title, he needs an heir. Despite all of the noble women paraded before him, his mind drifts to the battlefield, eager for another war. When his advisor brings him news of a rebel human colony that refuses to pay taxes, he figures that this is as good of an opportunity as he's going to get. Wiping out a village is easy, but that that makes it boring. Tracking down the female who was outside of the town's borders and witnessed the decimation promises to be a whole lot more fun. Iris now knows loss on an epic scale. That doesn't mean she's ready to roll over, though. If she has her way, the whole planet will be in strike against their cruel king.
Individually, Archon and Iris were interesting characters, but I just didn't really get what they saw in each other besides a surface-level attraction. Archon was the most take-charge male that Iris had ever met and she was the most defiant female he'd ever met. And somehow feelings developed from that. Also, their size difference was a bit of a concern for me. At 9' vs. 5', I found myself distracted during their intimate scenes by trying to figure out how they could possibly be kissing while joined. The world-building was somewhat unique and, although I don't think that I completely understood the dynamics of space and time, I would be curious to see how it's further developed in subsequent books.
Overall, I found this to be a fair start to a new series and I'm intrigued enough to stick with it. The H of the next book was briefly introduced at the end of this one and he seems like he'll be quite the character.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "ALIEN KING'S PREY" Loki Renard your the best at the Sci-Fi hot steamy romances this was another hot sexy, funny, feisty, sass, a cat & mouse game its an addicting read. King Archon is a dominating dragon-hybrid with royal blood a warrior loves to hunt his advisors want him to mate & produce an heir. Archon goes to deal with some human rebellion in his territory the humans don't want to pay taxes he'll put fear in them so an not defy him he burns the village takes all the people away but he missed one little human woman. Iris runs to save her life after seeing the King destroy her families home & them but he finds her strip her he going to take her when she stabs him & runs again she smart definitely determine not to be caught. This is where Archon & Iris's cat & mouse hunt begins he loves the challenge she gives him its like their own mating dance. I definitely recommend to get this extremely well written book so well worth the read the story flows perfectly I loved the chemistry between Archon & Iris she is his match in every way will she become his Queen & produce an heir. This a must have book for sure you want be able to put down until finished I'm so looking forward to book #2 "THE ALIEN KING'S PET". DOMINAX & KATIE'S STORY.
Iris plans to avenge her people. Archon, King of Archaeus, has killed everyone in her village. He has destroyed the village and now, she will make it known that all other’s to rise up and not pay their taxes as well. Archon was surprised that such a small human could cause such a ruckus. But there is something about her. She is not like the other females. She stirs something in him. He will have her.
I have to say, Iris is a tough cookie. I loved that she defended herself from the beginning against him. Shocked Archon. Archon needed to learn the human’s weren’t play things. We have feelings. He had no interest in what was going on around him being king. But I think his life was just boring and with Iris, there was a challenge. I understand the chase but boy did she show him how upset she was. She voiced her rage and let it be heard. His charm was hard to beat though. Feel love was a shock to Archon since all he ever had were willing bodies. I do love these two. He wasn’t as bad as he was made out to be in the beginning. He was a softy that wanted to be challenged.
This is definitely a one-sitting read! This was such a fun book to read! Iris has got to be one of my favorite female characters that I've read in a while. She is brave and stupidly so sometimes, but still manages to come off as a nice heroic victim who isn't really a victim, if you know what I mean? There were many instances while reading where I read about a thing she did or a conversation she had with Archon where she really openly flirts with sudden human death syndrome. But Archon is a funny guy too, so he's magnetic but also repulsive at the same time? The chemistry they have together is crazy hot and sometimes what you see is not really what it actually is, until it is, lol, you have to read it to see what I mean. I enjoyed every little thing about this book, Loki writes some really dark stuff sometimes, but this one is more like shady rather than dark, but totally hot regardless. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series and I hope that Archon and Iris appear in some of the ones that follow!
This is a very entertaining dark Sci-Fi alien romance with a humorous “enemies to lovers/cat & mouse” undertone. It definitely caught my attention within the first few pages & kept it all the way to the end. The plot is filled with just the right the right amount of action & has some intense situations that is well-described & has good world building. The characters are well-developed, strong-willed individuals & one of them (a feisty human female, Iris) is quite determined to escape the attentions of a rather brutal hybrid-dragon king (Archaeus) while he is just as determined to capture her. There is: humans, dragons, human rebellion, adventure, action, intriguing, drama, suspense, threats, danger, brutality, deceit, betrayal, defiance, manipulations, discipline, some BDSM, explicit steamy scenes, compromises, love, contentment & a well-deserved happy conclusion. I enjoyed reading this book & would recommend it.
I like some of the author’s other stories and this was just a travesty. So many incongruities in the story (the biggest being it couldn’t decide if it was futuristic or fantasy and never found a sweet spot between). Tearing the front and back of clothes, but they are still wearable? The male lead seeming to know things he doesn’t yet, and I found nothing likeable or relateable in either the male or female lead.
Nothing really made much sense and the back pedaling to give sense to the plot was headache inducing. The world building was lackluster and slipshod, characters were completely one dimensional without any growth, and the story was a mess. I almost DNF’d it, but I paid money to read it and I hoped it would pull itself out of the muck and mire....I am so disappointed.
A waste of time and effort. So unsalvageable, I won’t be reading anything else by this author.
This was a fantastic story about King Archon, a hybrid alien dragon with human features ,and Iris, a human female who is considered to be in the lowest echelon in this new alien world. Archon is a powerful king who rules his kingdom with brute savagery. Though he has a hidden kind side, he is known for his harsh warrior ways and his people fear him. He is called to a remote side of his kingdom where unruly humans are staging a protest. Little does he know that he will find his match in a meek human is who anything but weak. Iris surprises everyone when she not only escapes the King but also ensnares him. Unknowingly she has captivated the ruthless King and now all he seems to focus on is the hunt for his prey and mate. I absolutely loved this book, stopping only to sleep and work. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
The alien king, Archon has destroyed Iris’s entire village including her family, or so she believes. Archon has to retain his persona as being both cruel and ruthless in order to keep his enemies in line but that is not always the case. When he realizes one female human escaped, the chase is on. As he catches and claims her, she escapes and it starts over again until he leaves the planet. But he can’t get Iris out of his head and returns to claim her. The story is well written and entertaining because it mainly dealing with the relationship that develops between Archon and Iris. Both characters are strong and worthy of each others love and respect. This is a great story that I would highly recommend. I received a free copy of this book and are voluntarily leaving a review.
Right from the very first page, this story grabs a hold you with it's sexy deliciousness! I was riveted to my seat in anticipation of what would happen next. It was the perfect cat and mouse story with lots of sexy punishment in between.
Iris is perfect for King Archon. She's devious, smart, quick witted and a total brat. Exactly what King Archon needs to keep him grounded. She is not going to make the chase easy for him and he loves every second of it. I loved their interactions and the King's devious ways in punishing poor Iris (but she brings it on herself).
Brilliant world building and phenomenal writing. I loved every second of it and I can't wait for more in this series.
This fun, fast paced book concentrates on the Arrogant brute, Archon🐺🍆⛲💪🔪, 👑King of Energon🌍, and his bloodthirsty reign over lesser planets🌍, as well as his hunt for Iris💃💋, a small human woman whom he desires.
Iris💃💋 hates Archon🐺🍆⛲💪🔪, believing he killed her entire village with his dragonlike🐉💥 war machines, so she goes about the primitive medieval planet🌍, Zeta, giving speeches in an effort to stir up rebellion against the 👑King 🐺🍆⛲💪🔪.
ARC Provided by Booksprout 🌱 I also got this ebook with KU.
The book has several ADULT scenes with humiliation tactics by Archon👑🐺🍆⛲💪🔪. Happy ending guaranteed!
Archon is the king and he only wants to hunt. His court wants him to pick a mate to sire the next generation. He has no interest. Archon is then called to put down a human uprising and he goes to enjoy the hunt. Humans are known to be sneaky and Archon finds that out when he hunts down Iris. She might be small, but she is a quick thinker that gets herself out of sticky situations. When Iris out smarts Archon, the chase is on. I enjoyed the push and pull between these two characters. I also enjoyed the sly humor that the author slipped in. This is a book that you don't want to put down and when it ends, you want more. That's why I'm glad that there will be a book two in this series.
I received an advance copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
After much competition, Archon has become the king of his father’s galactic territory. In order for him to continue leading his tribe, he must mate and produce an heir. Unfortunately for the girls presented to him, what he really wants to do is hunt and fight.
When he is summoned to eradicate a tax problem on one of his planets, he eliminates all the humans causing the problem, except Iris. Iris is a sassy, feisty, independent woman determined to spread the story of Archon’s cruelty. Archon, on the other hand is thrilled to have a slightly competitive hunt on his hands. He might capture Iris, but will he be able to keep her?
I love the chemistry between these two characters. And, I love the way it ended. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
Have you ever read a book where both characters are so unlikeable that you kind of want to read on to see how the author makes them mesh together? And then you realize you wasted your time because they are even worse when they are together?
I don’t know why I read this— I thought it was be like Ice Planet Barbarians I guess? It wasn’t.
It’s like if in Blue Aliens in Ice Planet Barbarians, the pesky human needed to be ‘tamed’ by the alien through non consensual and creepy sex until he conditioned her into thinking she needed him. Or maybe she was purposely being an annoying ‘fake brats’ and lowkey conditioning him to think he was making her need him?
Lots too think about here folks. But I’m not trying to think about this book more than I have to.
I think I had trouble clicking with this books because I couldn’t ever really tell what the characters wanted. Like the big evil king was hell bent on being ruthless and cruel… except that he actually wasn’t. The FL wanted a revolution and hated the king… except not really. I just didn’t really understand them and that made connecting with them hard AND that makes the spicy scenes suffer for me. I’d also prefer spice to include the characters talking rather than just walls of text describing the actions.
The writing itself is very lovely, and if you’re wanting a read that is very “shut off brain and enjoy” then this one is for you. Unfortunately doesn’t work well for me though.
