Entertaining mystery romantic listening 🎶🔰
Shawn Parker is going to college in College City. He goes and gets coffee ☕ at the coffee ☕ shop every morning. Nikki works at the coffee ☕ shop. They get friendly. Nikki's father is Mytherannt a master criminal out to kill Shawn. Her feelings for Shawn get in the way of helping her father leading to changes for everyone. I would recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of romantic mystery novels 👍🔰. 2023 😀👒😡😮

This book is so adorably cute! I LOVED this authors main superhero series (Supervillain Rehabilitation Project) and I wasn't sure how I would like this spin off series. But I immediately fell in love with the characters! It is adorable and funny and the stakes are high for the characters personally, even if the overall stakes aren't as high as the ones in the main series.
I love how this author has crafted such a fun superhero world that feels like it would actually function with rules and consequences. And pokes good-hearted fun at superhero and supervillain stereotypes along the way that reminds me of all the best of the old superhero TV shows that I grew up watching.
Highly recommend for anyone who likes superheroes, adorable light romance, light action, or a really good laugh!
Re-Read Update: Now that this has released on audiobook, I re-read via listening, and the narrator did a really good job of giving life to these adorable characters! I can't wait to read book 2 in this series now that it has released!

Hello and welcome to cinnamon roll central. Pardon me while I snag a tissue. Those onions I chopped while reading this sure got to me. Okay, so I didn't actually cry, but I totally teared up. From the onions. Totally the onions' fault. It had absolutely nothing to do with a coffeeshop, cute animal doodles, a girl with a manipulative caretaker, and cinnamon rolls.

I enjoy super hero stories and love characters who are just plain kind, so this was great! Plus, coffee shop vibes are the best and the romance was cute.
I think there was one bad word? Nothing else that I can remember.

I’ve wanted to read this author’s superhero stories ever since I first heard about them, so when I was in the mood to read this one to get out of a reading slump I was super excited and wasn’t disappointed in the slightest! This story is the perfect blend of superhero action with romance and a couple of truly adorable and relatable characters I adore.
I really connected and felt for Apparition in her desire to live a normal life and in being shy and awkward as that is me around other people to a T, lol. I really felt and got her and am so happy with how her story turned out though it did look a little dicey for a bit! And Shawn is an absolute nice guy sweetheart with such a huge heart for others and I loved him from page one. Not to mention he has a Basset Hound named Ears and just how cute is that?
The superhero action was so clear to see and follow while also being exciting and tense, which were things I wasn’t sure would translate to page well as apposed to seeing it on screen (honestly I’m not sure why I thought that, lol), but this author nailed it so well. The romance is sweet, cute, and believable, and the villain is truly horrible and I wanted to punch his lights out more than once.
I really liked this book and can’t wait to read more of this series, not to mention all the others in this connected universe!

I have been following this author for a while and finally got to this book on my TBR pile. Blind Date with a Supervillain was a fun read. I enjoyed the buildup of the relationship between Shaun and Nikki. The superpowers were pretty cool and I loved how the powers have limits and weaknesses. It made this world of special abilities more enjoyable and realistic. I can tell these characters have a much deeper world than this one story. The character personalities were done very well and you feel like you are in the moment alongside them.
I enjoyed the dual POV and getting to see what Apparition thinks of herself while also getting to know Surge and his boy Ears.
It was a very enjoyable story and I look forward to diving deeper into the Supervillain Romance Project tales.

HL Burke writes squeaky clean romances in a Marvel x Hallmark sort of world that are just incredibly easy to read. Perfect sick day reads, imo.
I particularly liked one element of the romance in this one, which is that the MMC tells the FMC he doesn’t want to have a relationship with her just because he’s the first male who has ever been halfway decent to her, and encourages her to raise her standards for male behaviour.

Good book for teens. Clean too, which is a bonus!
A good book for teens, in my opinion. It's not exactly my style, but any teen who likes superhero/supervillain type of stories may like this book!

Blind Date with a Supervillain is a spin off from H.L. Burke's Supervillain Rehabilitation project series. It's chronologically after the first three books in that series, but can be read on it's own. Yes there are name drops but nothing that can't be understood out of context.
This book is much more Romance heavy than Burke's previous forays into the superhero genre, but still has plenty of action and tension to satisfy those still looking for snarky supers.
The biggest difference is that the stakes in this story are much more personal. Instead of saving the world they are saving themselves. It makes the heroes much more human when they are fighting for their own happiness and not everyone else.
I really recommend this book to all readers whether you read romance or superheroes, because H.L. Burke doesn't write romcoms she writes, snarky characters who have emotional breakthroughs while kicking butt.

Enjoyable. I haven't read any of the author's other superhero stories but this worked well as a stand-alone. Things are pretty fast-paced but I appreciated that the romantic aspect was given some time to develop at the end. Also Apparition's powers were interesting.
Content: a few swear words thrown in; a major part of the story is a very controlling and abusive character.

I loved this book end to end. I wouldn't read it fast enough. I've enjoyed @burkesdragons work for a while now, and I knew just from the quotes from this superhero universe that I'd enjoy these stories. This was my first foray, which I ordered thought my local library. The day after I finished, I ordered the other 4 in this series :)
The book isn't long, which made me sad, cause I could've read a full 300 pager of Shawn and Nikki, but I also appreciated how fast paced it was. Given the plot basis of a miscommunication rom-com, it was nice that the confusion didn't last any longer than it needed to be. Both MCs were likeable, and I felt like I could keep pace with the natural progression of their story. I also appreciated the realization that their relationship needed to be refounded on knowing who each other was. This was a fun read, and just what I needed to help break up the monotony of a workday!

Nineteen yr old Nikki has no friends and an evil villain father who wants her to lure Surge in so he can kill him. But she's met him as Shawn, who's so nice to her. She shouldn't be attracted to her mark. After their first date, she has to find a way to save him without going to jail, and without her father turning his wrath on her.
Only Burke can pull this off, mingling heartache with hilarity. It may be my 1st book of hers, but not the last.

Disclaimer: I am over 55 years old and still thought this was a fabulous story. I loved the inner battle vs outer battle and present-day battle vs long(ish) ago battle of the primary characters, and how they were intertwined. The story was tight and fast-paced without feeling rushed. It also addressed real world problems legitimately in a fantasy world.
I found this novella on a Stuff-Your-Kindle Day and I am extremely happy I decided it was worth the click.
Easily 5 stars, if not more.

Cute enemies to lovers story
When will supervillains learn that sending their eligible daughters to get close to the handsome superhero never works?
Shawn and Apparition are so cute! I love them. From the very beginning, Apparition is so easy to root for, even as a villain. Shawn is such a sweet guy, perfect to bring her out of her shell.
Definitely recommend!

I want to say this was a fun, lighthearted, somewhat tongue-in-cheek romance, and it, was, and yet…there was more to it. A lot more. It made me cry several times.
As with all of H.L. Burke’s superhero stories, it doesn’t take itself too seriously, and yet it does. The characters are likeable, the plot is solid, and it’s a quick, absorbing read. There’s a little bit of poking-fun-at-tropes going on here, both in the superhero and romance genres, and yet it also draws you into the characters’ lives and makes you truly feel for them.

This short and sweet novella is a spin-off of The Supervillian Rehabilitation Project series. I so enjoyed the main series, and I was expecting to love Blind Date as well. Which, of course, I did. The story was cute and gave me the fuzzy satisfaction of a clean romance. But H.L. Burke definitely didn’t leave out the action. I liked seeing the two different sides of Apparition, and her struggle was relatable. I mean, who doesn’t have a dark side, right? We all crave to be loved as we are, not some illusion of ourselves. A great short read! Thank you, H.L. Burke, for another epic adventure in the world of the SVR Project.

Another really great book by Burke! I adore this entire series and will continue to read them as long as she's putting them out. These books are great for readers of all ages and are just so much fun! They are perfect for crawling out from a reading slump or from coming down from a book hangover. Any of these books would be the perfect beach read or vacation read!!

This was such a fun read! Somehow it was exactly what I didn’t know I wanted to read today... a college-age superhero and villain romance with a side of family drama. I liked it a lot!

You had me at Mythcreant.
I was cackling from the first page, after reading the villain's name. There are so many instances of poking fun at superhero tropes that I felt like I was reading inside jokes all over the place. The Surge signal? (snickering ensues).
But, after that funny opener, I was surprised and rather excited to see that this wasn't only a fun light hearted story, but had depths to it that made me immediately root for the characters. Especially Apparition. She is starved for real connection and love, particularly from her deranged father. Her Dad, who I started out laughing at because of the campy name, became this true villain as you learn exactly how and who he is.
Shawn though, he's the textbook sweet hero. He's not going to turn his back on anyone, optimistic to a fault, and utterly besotted with the new barista at his favorite coffee shop but can't seem to figure out how to get her to believe he's interested (hehehe). Shawn isn't perfect. But he's a legitimately good person, which you don't see in fiction nearly enough to my mind. He constantly puts himself in situations that you face palm about because he can't say no when someone needs help. It's his blessing/curse.
I so enjoyed the book, I needed a good superhero read. I haven't read anything superhero-esque since Brandon Sanderson's Steelheart. I need more superhero books in my life.
Content warnings: violence; there's always fights in a superpower book. Punches, black eyes, and in this there is stabbing and shocks. spoiler trigger warning: It's not graphic and it's very vague so you don't get triggering details about anything. This book cleverly melds a charming romantic comedy plot with a funny-but-tense superhero plot for a quick, entertaining read.
Apparition is a young villain sidekick, using illusion powers to help her domineering dad Mythcreant (love the names!) pull off lucrative heists before going underground till they need money again. She secretly wants to experience normal life, practice her drawing, maybe make some friends. Her father rarely lets her out of his sight ... until he wants to take down a new young hero, Surge. Unlike most DOSA heroes, Surge wants to keep his identity as Shawn Park secret so he can finish his training and college degree. But Mythcreant knows who he is and sets up Apparition as a barista in Shawn’s favorite coffee shop so she can befriend, then betray him. But he’s so nice and his dog is so cute!
Apparition is an interesting character—she has never had a chance to figure out who she is apart from her father and villainy. Her villain persona is sexy and confident, but her default is shy and awkward. She doesn’t have the tools to tell the difference between falling in love and a decent person simply being nice to her. I liked how the young people had serious, high-stakes secrets. Dating would cause real complications, to say the least! Their initial awkwardness comes across cute and genuine. Some twists toward the end were welcome surprises that I didn’t see coming but worked well.

I purchased a Kindle copy of Blind Date with a Supervillain, but I also received an audio code from the author. I'm so glad that I got to listen to it because the narrator, Kylah Williams, was amazing! My husband heard some of it and was captivated too. We enjoy the author's witty humor and this book is full of it!

The story is about a young superhero who accidentally falls in love with a young supervillain. She tricks him at first but then she begins having second thoughts. He's so nice and he doesn't deserve what her dad has planned for him. Can she fix the mess she started before it's too late? You'll have to read and find out!
I highly recommend the audiobook. It was so much fun. I even caught myself responding to things out loud!

d'awww that was cuuuute
but seriously, Shawn and Apparition are the most adorkably cute couple // not too romancy // super sweet // short/quick read // lots of YIKES what's gonna happen?!? moments throughout // struggle between doing what is "smart" vs what is "right" // Apparition is possibly my new favorite character in this world.... and I didn't think anyone could top Jake

I had the pleasure of being a very late in the process beta reader (might as well have been an ARC?) Guys, I loved this story. Cute, funny, sweet... Apparition aka Nikki meets Surge aka Shawn... This story gave me huge Shawn Spencer vibes (which was fabulous) and gave us a coffee shop meet cute romantic action story. Super awesome. Including Batman refs... Grinning. Go read it!!

This short novella is a spin-off from the "Supervillan Rehabilitation Project" series, the best superhero series I've read (Okay, so it's the only superhero series I've read, but still . . . ). It is set in the same "world" as the main series with the same "rules" for the super-powered, but is set in a different location with a different cast of characters in a different situation and so works quite well as a stand-alone for anyone who hasn't read the main series.
This book is much more about the characters than the main series in that the characters aren't trying to save the city/country/world at all, just themselves and possibly each other. It does lean quite a bit towards the romantic, but it still has some action, humour, mystery and all the elements that make up a good story put together in a highly readable way.
