The Photograph Collector's Guide is an excellent reference book for anyone interested in vintage photos. While it was written in 1979, most of the material is still very relevant today. It includes a chronology of early photography including the technical advancements as well as the development of photography for documentation and as art. Other chapters are dedicated to a glossary of terms associated with photography, and information on the care and restoration of photographs. The middle half of the book is a alphabetized collection of half page biographies on dozens of photographers including examples of their work, signatures and other methods of identification. This text is invaluable to the owners of family vintage photos as well as collectors. Since this book relates primarily to the early photos and photographers, the fact that this book is only in black and white is irrelevant. I highly recommend it.
