This book will prove a feast, especially for those being exposed to many of these stories for the first time. Jerry Jenkins, bestselling novelist and writer of The Left Behind series
Wait … that’s in the Bible? Chances are there are stories in the Bible you’ve never heard or have forgotten. Or maybe you’re like many people—completely missing it when someone makes a cultural or literary reference to a common Bible story. Either way, this visually rich collection of true tales curated especially for adults will surprise, entertain, and inform, as you journey through some of the most important stories in the Old Testament.
This combination of 50 classic favorites and poignant lesser-known stories holds relevance for devout believers and skeptics alike. Inside these pages, you’ll Discover—and see—the Bible in a fresh way. Walk the ancient dusty paths, hear the battle cries, and marvel at the miraculous as you experience 50 Bible Stories Every Adult Should Know .
I bought this because I realized my teenage children didn’t know some of the most basic Bible stories. We took this summer break to read through this together to help fix that. The artwork is great, and generally speaking this is well written. It’s easy to read and has references to Scripture throughout. It points the reader to Bible verses to read more. My only complaint is it had a few more obscure stories, and left out a few that I’d consider staples. It’s not really a complaint, but I was surprised by some that were missing. That said, this serves well as an introduction to stories from the Bible for anyone either lacking that foundation in their faith or someone who’s looking to brush up their memory of these stories. My children and I will continue with the New Testament book next summer.
Interesting Storytelling Combines with Classic Artwork
I love Bible story books and 50 BIBLE STORIES EVERY ADULT SHOULD KNOW VOLUME 1: OLD TESTAMENT ends with a classic story on the cover: Jonah and the Big Fish. Matt Lockhart has included the expected stories but combined them with stories that are often excluded to create an engaging resource for every parent.
As he writes in the introduction: “The fifty stories curated here relate to some of the most important and historical events in the Bible. Furthermore, this book will introduce, or reintroduce, you to both noble and notorious men and women of the Bible—some well-known, and others obscure.” (Page 15)
I highly recommend 50 BIBLE STORIES EVERY ADULT SHOULD KNOW VOLUME 1: OLD TESTAMENT.
