Lonely isn't a feeling when you're alone ~ Lonely is a feeling when no one cares. Emily has one thing going for her—besides the couple of million dollars the insurance paid out when her parents died in an accident: She’s the best pal anyone could wish for.
Everyone sees her as a friend, but nobody looks at her as a potential lover or wife. At thirty-eight, she’s sure it’s because of the limp she’s been born with. She’s resigned that her love for Miles, her best friends for as long as they can remember, will never be returned.
The more surprised she is when Miles declares his love and asks her to marry him. But nothing is as it seems …
About Gudrun Gudrun was born on a small fishing island close to Hamburg, Germany. She immigrated thirty years ago to New Zealand with her wonderful husband and three adventurous children. She worked for 25 years in the mental health field as a trauma specialist.
Over the years, she learned that life is a bumpy ride full of highs and lows. It’s having friends and loved ones to celebrate with that makes the highs special, and knowing one isn’t the only one who struggles makes the lows tolerable.
Since retiring in 2015, she lives in Wellington, the coolest little capital in the world, with her husband, a cheeky dog, and never far from her gorgeous grandchildren.
She brings all those bumpy-ride-experiences to her books. She writes sweet romances and psychological thrillers combining romance with beautiful dreams, hopes, and unexpected twists.
🗻Great rural NZ setting, a heroine who deserves her own someone🌿
A story featuring a strong but frail self esteem heroine who has been bypassed by love as she approaches middle age is the foundation for this very readable romance. Unrequited love, physical challenges and the loss of her family have all shaped Emily's life. Despite her disappointments, this heroine is generous, loyal AND a great baker; she won me over! Milo, her childhood friend and crush, unexpectedly returns with a fiancee to their rural slice of heaven and unsettles the contented life Emily's made for herself.
Like the first book in this New Zealand-set series, there's a romance at the center and intrigue and some danger to quicken the pace. It's a good mix. I did find Milo's movement from one woman to another and his change in feelings a bit too sudden but, on the whole, it was a good read.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
The words flew with the interesting tale of Miles returning home. A blessing in disguise that he figured out he wasn’t enamored with his fiancée as he had thought. Someone who later turned up to be a murderer. Altogether a happy ending with him finally realizing his love for Emily. A good read.
Totally enjoyed reading this book. I do have issues with Miles, he really was so only into looks and money. I only wished it to be better than how the relationship continued. Did not like the Sabrina character, so mean.
