Carrie Porter doesn’t know what she’s lost until it’s gone. With her husband dead, and a young child to feed, she must rely on herself to improve her situation… or find a wealthy husband to care for her desolate family. When she chooses a man looking for a mail-order bride, she prays he will be her salvation.
Nebraska 1878 Sometimes you never know how life will turn out. Carrie had come to Last Chance, Nebraska with her husband a few years back and now she was a widow.
Taking a mail order husband had been a decree since the town had lost so many men in the blizzard. But it seemed of all the men she could have chosen, it ended up being Cade Hamilton, a man from her past that as a little boy who had teased her with his mischief!
Carrie had chosen him due to him being a doctor and then town needing one terribly. Her surprise came when Cade told her after something happened a couple of weeks ago, he decided he could no longer be a doctor.
A story of loss, guilt and an unexpected love that will bring healing to these two meant for each other. Wonderful.
Carrie isn't ready to remarry but the Preacher wants all the widows to remarry or leave town. So she's about to wed the man that answered her letter as soon as he comes to town. Will she always be comparing her new husband to her first husband? As a Doctor, will he be able to help out in town? Will Cade find his own place in Carrie's heart? This was a really good book! Cade was such a sweetie, so caring and thoughtful. There were a few unexpected parts which kept the story fresh and interesting. This is actually my favourite book in the series, so far. I don't always love books by this author but she really a great job with this book and it was a good, clean, sweet read.
It was good to visit Last Chance again. Pastor Collins’ declaration that the widows must marry or leave town seems harsh until you hear his explanation for feeling that way. The ladies would have been easy prey for less than scrupulous men who would have gravitated to a town made up primarily of widows. Carrie was one of those ladies whose husband died in the blizzard. In Marie Higgins’ magical way she built plenty of twists, turns and unexpected events into this book. Dr./farmer Cade Hamilton is one of those twists. I loved this story of Carrie’s and Cade’s trip to a new life.
This is another book from Marie Higgins that I couldn’t put down! The women of Last Chance are looking for grooms because of the loss of most of the men during a blizzard. Carrie chooses a doctor because the town really needs one. She has some surprises to face when she finds out he gave up the profession and he is also the boy who teased her mercilessly in school! Can this marriage work? I loved all the twists that kept me reading until very late! I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however, I voluntarily wrote an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
This story begins with great tragedy and heart break by so many in Last Chance as most of the men in town were killed in a sudden blizzard while they were on a hunting trip. This story was written by Marie Higgins and she has done an exceptional job with the plot and the characters. Cade was a trained doctor and had lost a sick child he was treating causing him to loose his confidence in his medical abilities. He come to Last Chance deciding to be a farmer and marry a Mail order bride, Carrie. You will enjoy discovering how they find their happily ever after.
Carrie lost her husband Michael in the blizzard. She has a young son and needs a husband, according to the pastor. Little does she know the one she’s been assigned to was someone she was in grade school with and she hated him… but she found out he’s now a doctor and their town desperately needs one.
Cade trained to be a doctor, but not long into his practice, he lost a little boy and was ostracized. He’s coming to Nebraska to get back into farming. Carrie is very upset when she learns this.
Can these two come to terms with all the issues they face?
I'm loving the Blizzard Bride series. After a blizzard kills most of the men in Last Chance, Nebraska, the Pastor tells all the widows they either have to become a mail order bride or move back east. This is Carrie's story. I loved how they both worked through their emotions of loss and finally accepted each other for who they were, even though they struggled through it. This was a sweet, heartwarming book, that had great characters and a storyline that had a few twists that were unexpected. Loved it!
This was a sweet twist on a mail order bride story. I love that the groom was the one to travel this time. Carrie and Cade had an awkward beginning, but their story soon turned sweet. I wasn't sure I would like Carrie in the beginning, but she grew on me and was really a wonderful person. I love how she flourished in this story. Cade was a great character that just needed a confidence boost. I enjoyed this story.
This story has the opposite of the mail order bride books that are so frequently written. I enjoyed it because of that. Carrie quickly discovers that she knows Cade which makes their relationship interesting. She falls for him which causes her a problem when she discovers a truth about her first husband. So once again, Ms. Higgins has written a very good different story. I received an ARC. This is my voluntary, unbiased opinion.
Excellent characters! This was a fantastic story with many mouth gaping open moments. I loved how Carrie and Cad started out with their romance, I was excited to see how it would work. So heartwarming that Cad and Carrie helped each other over come the past that afflicted them. The author does a wonderful job of wrapping the readers heart around every part of this story. This was a beautiful, flirty and clean romance that will have you falling in love with this book.
Love this book as well as the series of books about the blizzard brides. Carrie thought she was getting a doctor as her groom, but after Cade sent his letter to her he experienced something that caused in to stop being a doctor. So there were some things for for them to work out. I love the characters and plots! Marie Higgins knows how to tell a great story and she did not disappoint in this one either! Great job!
I loved the storyline and the characters were some truly brave and inspiring characters. Carrie and Cade’s story take on a completely different type of romance. Carrie finds out she’s stronger than she knows, when she she has to face losing one husband and nearly losing her maid and her son, but Cade comes to the rescue. What a wonderful gentleman and husband her is to Carrie. Loved this series.
Carrie has a young son and chose a mail order groom, in part because he was a doctor. The town's doctor died leaving only a midwife to carry the load. When Cade arrives he has decided he can't be a doctor. Not only that he is someone who grow up with Carrie and always teased her. What is she to do? Learning about themselves and each other and growing together strengthens these two. It is how they are able to each start healing from the grief and pain that they are carrying.
After Carrie discovers that the groom she was expecting is actually a former classmate, she's not sure how their marriage will work. He used to pull on her pigtails and thought she was a spoiled brat because her family had money. However, as time goes on, she begins to discover that her husband Michael wasn't who she thought he was. The way that this story unfolds is super sweet. It's very well written, too.
This is another interesting book in the Blizzard Brides series. Carrie lost her husband of five years in the blizzard that hit Last Chance , leaving her with there infant. Fortunately she has her trusted maid who accompanied them when they first traveled west. She needs to find a husband who will care for her family and be able to provide for them. Her choice is a doctor, Dr. Cade Hamilton. She just hopes and prays that she has not made a mistake.
This is the first story in the Blizzard Bride series I have read and I really enjoyed this story. I found the idea of a blizzard killing the husbands and having the widows apply for mail order grooms unique. I enjoyed the style used to write this story, the characters, and found this hard to put down.
Another book added to the Blizzard Brides is just as good as the first book. Carrie and Cade look for true love in each other. Cade is a Doctor who has changed his mind about being a doctor and Carrie is a woman looking for love after finding out her husband never really loved her. Very enjoyable read.
I'm amazed at what the people of Last Chance, went through with the dual blizzards. Carrie had lost her banker husband in the second blizzard. She, like the other women, was looking for a new husband for herself, father for her son. She was in for some revelations when she meets her new husband.
A Groom for Carrie is a sweet, heartwarming romance. Carrie and Cade were an interesting couple who learned to appreciate each other's strengths. This is a well written romance as I have come to expect from Ms. Higgins. Once I started reading I could not put it down.
Sweet mail order groom with Carrie and Cade coming together after her husband passes away and send off for a mail order groom and she gets Cade. Loved this different spin on the mail order thing and the characters.
Love all the books in this series. Excited to know that another series has the continuation of some unfinished characters mentioned in this book, under the same autho. Great writing.
A man who has lost faith in his abilities, and a woman who finds she has been settling in her past marriage. They both grow and learn to believe again with each other. Looking forward to her new series.
Carrie came from a wealthy family, but her husband wanted to move west. After the blizzard that kills her husband, she begins to learn much about him, as she falls for her new husband. Good clean romance.
I really enjoyed this book! Carrie and Cade were a fantastic match. The story flowed and never did I wish it would hurry along. I hope we get to see these two pop up again throughout the series.
I am enjoying the Blizzard Brides series and this book is an excellent addition. Horrible circumstances lead to a happily ever after. This read is highly entertaining.
