REIMAGINING A CLEANER, GREENER, CARBON-FREE WORLD!
The current global energy use, with its overwhelming dependence on fossil fuels, has taken global warming to dangerous levels. Climate change is already hitting us hard, through adverse effects on global food availability, biodiversity, rising sea levels and extreme weather events, such as hurricanes and floods. In the last decade, a major transformation-the transition to clean, affordable and sustainable energy from the sun and the wind-is beginning to address these challenges. Fossil Free provides a concise introduction to the challenges, realities and complexities of the global and local energy industry, as well as the trends and forces driving the energy transition. It explains how improved electricity infrastructure, decentralized smart grids, electric vehicles, energy storage and market design are already providing clear pathways for the transition towards green, efficient, affordable and secure renewable energy across the energy-use extraction, conversion, transmission, distribution and end use. For over a decade, Sumant Sinha has had a ringside view of the energy scenario. Having founded and helmed India's leading clean energy company, his understanding of the global energy landscape and climate change brings a unique, holistic perspective on energy. With Fossil Free, Sinha shares his vision for energy which is not only clean, but also practical and affordable.
Fossil Free is a comprehensive book on the world's tryst with energy, highlighting when and how the world has shifted its energy dependence to different sources and why it's time now for renewables to take over. The book is replete with complex clean energy concepts explained in simple terms and backed by important data.
For anyone with interest in the sector, it's a great book to get started and build a broad understanding of the sector, especially in India.
Fossil Free by Sumant Sinha had been on my TBR since 2021, and after all these years I ended up reading the book.
This book takes you through the nitty-gritties of how clean and renewable energy works, how policy interventions from governments can help and how India performs on the clean energy platform as compared to the rest of the world. The latter is what I found to be the unique perspective in this book. As a reader in India, you see the comparison between what countries like the US, UK, Germany etc. are doing and the steps India has taken in the same direction.
There is also a critical analysis of how government policies have impacted the growth of the renewable energy sector both positively and negatively. As a reader not familiar with the industry, the book is heavy on technical jargon, and there were times when I had to read a part twice to understand what it meant. The whole thing only helped me learn more.
People who are enthusiastic about clean energy and renewable should read this book. I think that this book acts as a good reference point that you can keep going back to.
A must read book for everyone, especially the Policy makers and Political fraternity across the Country. Well articulated and insightful too.. Addresses key challenges.. Gives achievable ways to mitigate most of it.. Easy to understand explanation and language used wud help even the novice... Maybe it cud help if this book gets translated in native languages too to reach a larger audiences across various States in our Country to have a greater reach too....which is an urgent need of the hour...
A book that envisions our climate future with a lot of hope while being tempered with reality checks at every stage. This book sets the context for the reader regarding the climate and energy journey till date and establishes board guidelines for the world and India in particular to reach our climate goals.
Fossil-free serves as an enlightening guide, revealing the path towards embracing renewable and green energy to address the climate crisis and progress towards a carbon-light future. The chapter dedicated to green hydrogen underscores its potential as the upcoming go-to clean energy source for the future.
The fossil free is descriptive book that talks about renewable energy, Indian policies and adoptions of EVs.Renewable energy is in growth phase and talks about various opportunity. Easy to understand but beneficial only for people interested in energy domain
