PN Elrod has been a favorite author since I first encountered Jack Fleming, her 1930s vampire. I just have had a really hard time tracking down her work. I read the earlier version of this collection of stories, but the reissue includes some editing and an excerpt from a new to me steam punk novel, all great. I skipped a few of these stories, but for the most part these are masterful stories. I was very happy to spend more time with Jack, a thoroughly entertaining mashup of a tough PI, gangster night club owner, and oh yes a vampire. There's a sci fi story with an unlikely pair of escaped prisoners, both of which continued to surprise me to the end, I really would love to see that turned into a novel. Here's hoping I see lots more from this author, including a chronological reissue of the Fleming stories (hint). She is worth reading and rereading.
Really, really good! This series of short stories was entertaining. Jack Fleming has always been a favorite vampire & this adds others to the mix...Quincy Morris, Barrett before he was one & even Escott almost joins the land of the Egyptian dead ... all thoroughly fleshed out.
If these were all films, I still can't decide WHO I would think could play Jack Fleming well. I recommend this collection of short stories - you won't be disappointed.
Witty, clean writing with memorable characters you can also believe in. P.N. Elrond splices motive and circumstances smoothly into the story, and a deft hand avoids gratuitous violence. Not a single paragraph is wasted in the craft. Should be recommended reading for aspiring authors.
Excellent re-issue. I had not read these stories before but am pleased that the author had gone over them before re-issuing the collection and re-honed her craft. A good enjoyable read, well written stories, different perspectives on known characters, and a good introduction to new ones.
very new & interesting viewpoint of vampires without “sparkles”!
Refreshing new look at supernatural creatures. Complex characters and shifting storylines. Check out the writer. Don’t miss this opportunity for a new to you favourite writer!
Ms. Elrod has outdone herself with this collection of short stories. Read this collection, then go back and buy her books to learn more about her world of vampires.
Loved these stories! They we super creative and there wasn’t a single story I didn’t like. There was also a good variety with all kinds of settings and characters. Very fun collection.
