I had the pleasure of meeting Elena Fenrick at a local arts group. She kindly gave our group signed copies of her book. She is such a kind and whimsical person, and it is absolutely reflected in her work.

A Bewildering Week is a unique take on family dynamics that are deeply affected by politics. I’ve never quite read anything like it. The way the multiple POVs overflows makes the reading experience feel as though you are watching a mini series/tv show. It’s simple, yet complex. It’s straight to the point, yet flowing. It’s funny how this book is cemented in time. It reads very 2016. If you are interested in Canadian landmarks, living, and politics, this quick read might be for you!

I don’t think a landmark or Newfoundlandism was missed.

I love the humanity of the characters. I enjoy the St John's parts. As someone who lives in St. John's I resonate with the descriptions and the sense of place. I love the part of the "speaking St John's code words" and the Saskatchewan parts speak to my tug to the prairies. I am enjoying it very much. I love the sassy grandma. The story is tight. The more you read, the more it comes together. I found myself gaining new layers of insight with the characters as well as the narrative as a whole. This book is a delightful divergence from life at this moment. It immerses one in a time of simplicity and innocence It it is an amazing insightful and authentic story. I am grateful the author followed her heart and put it out there for us to enjoy.
