I absolutely LOVED this book so much and more. First, this was refreshing, a well- represented POC hero of Indian heritage and upbringing. ( I see who was your inspo here Victoria 👀😁).
The setting, dark, intense and fervent , made a perfect environment for the Sethi brothers to unleash their mayhem on their quest for revenge and control .
To say that I got second-hand tingles and breath-shortage from the way Shyam was OVER THE TOP Alpha , possessive and obsessive over Amelia, his need to always touch her , and how he was All DONE FOR 🧎🏽 right from the start ( but kept convincing himself otherwise!! Men😒).....
This was fast-paced and rhythmic in a way there was no dragging, no fill-in chapters . The constant presence of Action and Impending danger kept me going on the side, Yes , this is a Romance but alsooo plot and events heavy . Which, how I like my books, 😌😌😌.
STILL
The chemistry was the ever present element. THIS MANNNNNN 🔥🔥🥵🥵🧎🏽♀️🧎🏽♀️🧎🏽♀️.
And that CLIFFHANGER I need answers and I need book 2, like last week( currently blessing my kindle) But I'm forever a tinny tiny extra happy whenever I read the paperback ( call me materialistic 😌😌, nope. I'm just tactile 🙆🏽♀️🙆🏽♀️🙆🏽♀️

🍂 POC Hero (🇮🇳Mafia) 🍂 Dominant ,Broody, grumpy, over the top Shyam 🥵 🤌🏼 🍂IT heroine (talk nerdy to me 😌) 🍂 POWER BROTHERS ( Jai !!!! I'm coming for you soon) 🍂 Spicy 🥵🔥🔥 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼 🍂 Workplace romance (Boss- employee) 🍂 CLIFFHANGER 😬(Brace yourself)
This is one of those books where it is me, not the book. On the surface, Power sounded like something that would hook me. Unfortunately, it was one of those cases where I couldn’t quite connect with the story.
For me, the writing felt flat, and I never felt any of the emotion that was supposed to exist between the characters. This, however, could have been a result of something that happened early in the book – a detail I am not a fan of. You see, our leading lady went from being assaulted to being desperate for the male lead in seconds. It was the typical ‘he just knocked the bad guy away, so I’m going to be all over him’. I’m not a fan of such dramatic changes, of going from a bad situation to dry-humping. Maybe I’m just too picky, but this soured things for me early in the book and I was never invested from then on.
Many clearly adore this, however, and I’m certainly the minority here.
This is a compelling debut novel by Victoria Woods. It has a strong start that pulls you into the story. In the beginning I wanted a little more fight from Amelia (or at least a little resistance), especially as Shyam has a very I-get-what-I-want attitude about him, but she soon rises to the challenge and I really enjoyed seeing her come out of her shell.
Shyam and Amelia have great chemistry and an undeniable connection making for some seriously steamy reading. But life in the underworld has it's challenges and there's plenty in this plot to keep you hooked until the end. An end that will leave you demanding book 2 immediately (luckily, it's already out).
Holy heck what a Powerful start to the book!! A sexy as hell CEO with one hella of a saucy side - YES PLEASE. When he meets Amelia an emploee of his it surely is only going one way right?!
This is Victoria's debut novel it literally will have you squealing, panting and have you fully friggin invested into this book. I devoured in one sitting & my eyes burn!!
Shyam is a passionate, dominant, arrogant CEO with a history of heartache and pain but hot damn the dominance is ... well is it hot in here!! 🥵🥵
Amelia is a gorgeous, intelligent, sassy as heck badassary chick! Gurl crushing over here... 😍
Now Jai... is it ok he draws me in. There is something so beuatifully enticing about the playboy joker brother!!
This is a fast pace book which leaves your heart beating a million beats a minute. The chemistry and raw passion is EVERYTHING and is fiercely attractive!
The steam in this is HOT AS HECK!! I haven't read anything this jaw dropping in a while. My jaw firmly hit the floor and my heart screamed for Shyam and Amelia, i feel speechless. Hot damn this is such an intense, passionate, compelling read. My emotions are all over the place!
Power is the first book and also debut of Victoria’s Power Series. There is a trigger warning in this dark romance that some might find unsettling. You’ve been warned 😉
Now.... can we start talking about the Sethi Brothers? Because.... damn are they hot! Out to get his biggest adversary who is going after everything he has, Shyam and his brother buy starter tech companies in order to try and track him down, as well as to keep up their front so nobody knows of their criminal ways. What he didn’t expect was Amelia. She’s beautiful, smart, brave.... he’s drawn to her. She consumes his every thought. She can find the person he’s searching for but more so.... she can find him.
You’re an important part of our team now. You’re one of us.”
The steam when Amelia and Shyam are in a scene together is just.... so hot. You can practically feel the tension building up through the words Victoria writes. As far as a debut novel goes... this one was great! I loved getting into her world and her characters. This story is written in a dual POV so you’re in the head of both characters. The suspense is strong and the romance is even stronger. I really enjoyed seeing Amelia grow into her stronger shell. This is definitely a great dark romance read that’ll have you reading into the late hours of night and the second book in the series will be release March.22,2021! So close! And with the cliffhanger that Power leaves you with, you’ll be wanting to preorder now so you’ll have it the moment it releases!
Empowered teaser: “You’ve been nothing but trouble since the day you came here.” He seethed. “I’m going to enjoy watching the blood drain from that pretty face.”
Shyam Sethi has two lives so to speak. He is a CEO of the Sethi Tech empire but that is just a front for his illegal business in the drug cartel. When Amelia Becker starts working at Sethi Tech she never thought of what could lie behind the scenes. Can she deal with the illegal and corrupt side of her new boss and his life? Can he stay away from this innocent yet brilliant girl? He wants revenge for his family but can he sacrifice Amelia’s safety in the process? They have an undeniable connection but in the underworld, happiness is never guaranteed. This is the authors debut novel and I did enjoy the beginning of this darkish romance duet. Power is well written and I look forward to see what happens after that major cliffhanger. I felt like I was just getting into the story and then bam...cliffy! I can’t wait to see what happens. Told in dual POV
First time reading this author. I was impressed with the storyline and characters. There were a areas that were outlandish but for the most part the story worked. The ending was abrupt. I'm glad the next book is out as I wasn't aware that this would continue in book 2. For some reason, I assumed it was different brothers in each book of this series.
Off-topic, it was great to see the multicultural aspect of the story. One small gripe I had is how the hero's name is pronounced. I wished the author had somehow given a phonetic clue. I guessed, and then felt bad if I was saying it wrong.
Fast paced, steamy scenes and two lead characters that you can really fall in love with!
I've definitely got a book hangover from this. Shyam and Amelia are such a power duo! I loved that Amelia was originally quiet and shy but by the end of the book she completely comes out of her shell and is the strong woman you know she is deep down. Shyam is your alpha male, who is out to get revenge on his enemy but he has such a soft side - which he only really shows Amelia. I loved this book. I can not recommend this enough. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘁𝘄𝗼?!
Shew y'all...I just found another dominant, possessive, tall, dark, sexy AF man to swoon over 🔥 Shyam owns a tech corporation that serves as a cover for his illegal drug business. He's trying to track down his enemy and hires Amelia, a software developer, to help. She caught his attention & he tried to have a casual relationship, but she became more important than that.
We are left with a heartwrenching cliffhanger. There's angst, drama, past trauma, and plenty of sexy times 😏The 'billionaire meets quiet girl & claims her as his' troupe never gets old! Book 2- Empowered- releases in a couple weeks!
Where to begin with this book?! Maybe the fact I was so hooked that I read it in a day?!😲 The story follows main characters Shyam (CEO of Sethi Tech Empire) & Amelia (who works for him) who you can totally fall in love with😍 The steam between these two is fierce 🔥🔥 Shyam is set on getting revenge for his mother’s murder but finds it soon gets complicated with his feeling for Amelia becoming involved. One of my favourite parts of this story is seeing how much Amelia comes out of her shell and becomes more confident. This book is left on a real cliff hanger and has left me wanting the second book right NOW! 😂
Amelia was a smart woman who was a tech developer at a start up company. She didn't have the best history with men but that didn't stop her from having a good time when she went out with her friend Nat. Jason her sleazy boss has just dropped the news that he was selling to a huge company called Sethi Tech owed by Jai and Shayum Sethi. These two were known for being very rich and very powerful. Amelia sees Shayum out one night at his club and can't help but stare. She feels instant attraction to him. It might just be the death of her. This was fast paced, and I really loved getting to know Shayum and Amelia. Both characters were strong and independent. The author does a great job at getting into the characters head and making the reader feel every emotion.
What a steamy story! The chemistry between Shyam and Amelia is mouth watering. And Shyam is such an Alpha. Power will keep you on your toes, guessing, and needing/wanting more...
“Bad things happen to girls who spend time in hallways.”
This book had me on my toes with the mystery, suspense and steamy scenes. This book grab my attention from the get go love the main characters Amelia and Shyam now I can’t wait to read what happens to them. Love the characters and the plot. If you like hot steamy books then this is for you. There is trigger warning ⚠️ to this book, but other than that it’s an amazing read.
I can't express how thrilled I get when the FMC is a programmer. Seeing my own field represented in a book, especially with such a badass heroine, makes me incredibly happy. Amelia is a fantastic character, and I can't wait to see her grow even stronger.
As for Shyam, there were moments when I wanted to knock some sense into him, but he's just so irresistibly attractive, that I let a lot slide. His combination of gentle yet rough, with those sexy, stalker-ish vibes, really brought out the obsessed male trope. He’s clearly in love with her, even if he doesn’t realize it (honestly, who wouldn’t want to give him a little wake up call And slap some sense into him.) Overall, would definitely smash yes.
The Indian mafia theme was a huge highlight for me. I've read plenty of stories about Italian or Russian mafias, so it was incredibly refreshing to dive into something new.
That cliffhanger was brutal, and I’m already on my way to start the sequel.
RESEÑA "PODEROSO: SERIE PODEROSOS LIBRO 1" (Victoria Woods)

This is book one in The Power Duet Series and it is Amelia and Shayam's story and omg what a intense and powerful read. Amelia is coder and works for a start up company but when the Sethi Brother's bit the company that is when Amelia meets Shayam and then she ends up working at The Sethi Tech Company but things are not what they seem. Shayam and Amelia want each other but Shayam doesn't do commitment of relationships because of what he does and the danger it could put anyone near him so he tries to keep his distance. The more time that Amelia and Shayam spend together the stronger there connection and chemistry between them grows but someone is watching and danger is just around the corner waiting to strike but how will it all end and omg what a rollercoaster ride of emotions and the big cliff hanger at the end have you needing to read the next book as soon as to and I can't wait to read the conclusion to Amelia and Shayam's story. Wow I couldn't put this book down as it was so addictive and kept you on the edge of your seat wondering what else would happen and there are so many twists and turns and that is what makes this book a real page turner. This is the first book that I have read by Victoria Woods but definitely not the last as it took you into the story right from the first page and kept your attention until the last one and it was so well written and definitely worth reading.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Amelia works for an IT Company that just got bought out by Sethi Tech. Her new boss Shyam is dark, intense and very powerful. But he isn’t just a billionaire tech mogul. No he is something more. So much more....and dangerous.
She finds herself drawn to him. His dominance over her just turns her on more. And the pain he inflicts makes it that much more. Hotter...addictive. But he is not a man to commit to. There is no marriage in their future. Especially on his quest of revenge. But when an enemy starts closing in on them, the danger becomes real and Shyam may lose the most important thing to him.
This book had me from the very beginning. With each page and each chapter, the intensity grows and begins to burn like wild fire. The characters are intense and very strong in personality. The ending will leave you speechless. You can’t help but want more.
Overall this read is a dark erotic thriller. The subject matter is dark in nature and contains many triggers. It has strong scenes centered around BDSM styles. It is not for the weak of heart. It is oh so taboo and will heat you from the inside out. The title says it all ...it will have “Power” over you.
While reading Power, I found myself confirming something over and over again: is this *actually* Victoria Woods’ debut novel?
It is, but Woods writes with a confidence and expertise that fosters the impression she’s been publishing for years. Power introduces us to Amelia—an intelligent, quick-witted woman determined to make her mark in the male-dominated tech world, and Shyam, an enigmatic alpha-male, CEO doubling as a drug warlord on a mission to avenge his mother’s murder at the hands of the series villain, Tarun.
Power hooks you right from the first page. It’s hard to put down and thrusts you into a world that’s laden with toe-curling deliciousness, characters with so much personality they feel real, and a clever, steamy storyline that promises to earn this series a special place in my heart.
The book does conclude on a cliffhanger that stays with you long after you’ve turned the last page, but the only thing you’ll be vying for to nurse this book hangover is book two.
This book is my second read from Victoria woods. Author have got Indian names and other words from Hindi language are also correct, but the nature portrayed of Indian men is nothing like Shyam’s and Jai’s character. The approach was basic.
At first this book did not show any chemistry between the couple, i truly felt if author even know the meaning of it.. but in between there were some glimpses of good romance.
Every book is portraying the female character very submissive, i hate it. I want more rejections from the girl side just to make sure that we still have some dignity left to reject a powerful person.
At first i did not know that this book have a sequel, but now i am onto 2nd book.. read 2 chapters of it.. and it is giving me a feeling of haunting and hunting Adeline… i hope that is not true because that will be total waste of my time. I liked that book but don’t want to re-read it.
And last thing i want to say that the poster of this book is WOW. I mean i would love to kiss this poster and would kill to have this kind of person in my life. WOW. HOTTTT
Wow. This book was a surprise. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I LOVED this so much. The writing was flawless. I believe this is @victoriawoodsauthor’s debut novel.
Shyam and Jai are the owners of the biggest tech company in New York City. But they are more than that. They are brothers, are in the drug cartel and have enemies. They have enemies that have taken much from their family and they’ve sworn vengeance.
Amelia is a fresh college graduate who lands a dream job...or so she thinks.
Shyam and Amelia have chemistry IMMEDIATELY and holy hot! What Amelia didn’t expect was how deep she would end up being a part of Shyam’s world.
This book does end with a cliffhanger but the emotions .... I felt them of the character and I am so so so ready for book 2! Bring.It.On! I’m so impressed with this book. It had me from the beginning and now I’m on an extreme book hangover! Go download this book! You won’t regret it and you’ll fall in love with these brothers.
This was such a fun and fantastic read! Really enjoyed it a lot. The kind, smart, nerdy girl falls for her new boss. Unfortunately for her, he’s not just any boss. She may only be 23/24, but she’s not naive. She’s not weak or pathetic. She may be single, but she’s not sleazy. The author did a really good job at making the h sound exactly like an educated young woman who has been through a couple of sad times. The H is a criminal. Hes bossy. Hes possessive. He’s an alpha who says he doesn’t do relationships... or does he? He seems to be slipping on the “I don’t do girlfriends”. He’s always watching her. He’s always touching her. He doesn’t ever want her to leave. For someone who claims he doesn’t do relationships or girlfriends, he’s awfully protective of her. And when she’s kidnapped and dragged halfway across the world and he gets an unwanted “gift” from his enemy, he crumbles like a 2 week old stale cookie and his heart is shattered. The book ends on a cliffhanger.
This is the first in a new series as well as a debut from this talented author, who I will certainly be looking out for in the future. Shyam is arrogant, dominating, and the powerful CEO of a tech empire which is a front for a drug cartel. Amelia is quiet and sassy, and she works for Shyam, and she manages to bring out his softer side. I loved how Shyam brings Amelia out of her shell and she becomes the strong and confident women that was buried inside. This is a well written storyline, which is fast paced, and is raw, gritty, powerful, passionate, and with revenge, mystery suspense, and steamy, which all leads to an intense and all-consuming tale which had me intrigued throughout. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend. Be aware that there may be triggers for some!
Victoria has definitely gained my interest with her debut novel. This first book of this series was a little slow at first, but I am so happy that I continued because the further I got along with the story the more I realized she did this for a purpose and ended up with a world of characters (and a plot) that I could picture perfectly. I liked how the mystery and suspense built up and I enjoyed the push and pull between Shyam and Amelia, anytime these two were together the chemistry (and the steam) were insane - but I think my favorite part was seeing how Amelia grew out of her shell and into her skin. This does end in cliffhanger though so I have to wait for the next book to get all the answers to all my questions.
I just finished this read and wow! From the very first page, it pulled me into the story. I got to say this, Victoria Woods you did an amazing job! I absolutely loved this book! I'm looking forward to reading more work from you in the near future. The plot is well executed; the characters are phenomenal! Its a steamy read. The chemistry between the main characters is through the roof! It ends on a cliffhanger; I do like to read novels that ends on a cliffhanger or have a suspense ending. However, I needed to know what happens next! I was so shocked! I mean it couldn't end like that! I didn't expect to escalate so quickly! I'm super excited to read her second novel in this series Empowered.
As soon as I stumbled across the Power Series books I instantly wanted to read them! Not only did the synopsis pull me in so did the cover! This story had my attention right away and I really liked how i could picture it all so clearly! I enjoyed this first book!
This first book in Shyam and Amelia's journey pulled me into this world! I wasn't sure what all to expect and I really liked how that got me into it even more!
With Power, Ms.Woods has created such a good debut that'll get your attention! I can't wait to get into book two next!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Nisha's Books and Coffee PR / the author*
Shyam and Amelia's story is quite interesting, a powerful CEO of a Tech Empire on the front-end but drug cartel on the back-end. Amelia works for him and things start to get blurred, he looks for revenge but he wants her, things are never easy and so I need the next book to find out what comes next, there are so many questions and suspense that I need answers to. The book is well paced, starts a bit slow but climes up, and continues at a good pace afterward to keep you on your seat reading. Definitely a good plotline and great characters. Looking forward to the next one.
