Understand, Learn and Adopt the Strategies of High Performers to Excel and Deliver the Best.
About the Book
Improving the performance or creating the culture of the best performance is not a new concept for most of us. Many contributions have been there already by many popular HR or Management professionals. However, still, the requirement of the best performance by the employees or its team leaders are not ensured everywhere, and there is a gap. Therefore many organizations are still struggling to reach the best performing organizations category. The purpose of this book is, therefore, to address or provide the right solutions to the team members and team leaders who are responsible for creating the culture of best performance across the organizations and helping to take the employees/organizations to the next level and win over the competition.
Dr. Ravindran.K.A.
The Author Dr. Ravindran.K.A. (Bachelor of Commerce [B. Com], Bachelor of Laws [LL. B), Masters in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations [M. A – PM&IR.] and a Ph.D. holder in Management). He is a seasoned Human Resource Management professional with close to three decades of hands-on work experience in various industries, majorly well-known Japanese Corporates, managing the entire Human Resource & General Affairs functions in senior leadership roles. Throughout his corporate journey, he has helped many lives within organizations to reach their career aspirations through effective coaching and mentoring. Outside the organization also, the HR fraternity members are being supported, and they have been consulting him for effective people management practices. He has closely experienced the challenges people face in the organizations, and he has provided them with workable solutions to help them overcome those challenges from time to time as required.
And unfortunately, this one didn't hit-the-mark either.
Dr. Ravindran K.A. though is a HR whiz, and I've long recognised that to build a high-performance culture, the key individual and team with the most influence is the Human Resources Director/VP and his/her team. Without HR 'leading-the-charge' you're organisation has no chance establishing the culture, or, if already established by a past generation, of maintaining it. So the Head of HR has to be a High Performance Evangelist, indeed they have to going on about the subject, morning, noon and night, at both their fellow C-suite execs and the employees. Anything else and any effort to establish that culture is doomed.
And right-off-the-bat, Dr. Ravindran is pushing that line, with Chapter One, section one, Loyalty. Straightaway he identifies the key need for any organisation seeking to establish or maintain a High Performance Culture; it has to establish and perpetuate loyalty;
Employee loyalty can be defined as the degree to which employees are faithful and devoted to an organisation or association. The degree to which an employee is to the organisation/association and believes that staying in the organisation is to their own best interest only be termed as loyalty. (page 3)
So, in my experience, if an organisation isn't retaining employees, or if morale is low or it keeps being tempted to perform redundancy programs, then it probably isn't a great contender for reaching the lofty heights of being a 'High Performance Culture'. Dr Ravindran: bang-on-target with the first shot, a 10.9.
And so onto the next Chapter - High-Performance Teams - Challenges. nd again, Dr. Ravindran is bang-on target, emphasising amongst many other things, how important training and development is in establishing those teams, and retaining the high-performing team members.
On we go, Chapter 3 High-performance Teams - Build and Lead short but still pertinent.
Except by now, at page 39 of just 105 pages, I'm starting to feel that Build A High-Performance Culture: Move from Ordinary to Extra-ordinary is, just like my key criticism of High Performance Through Happy People...a bit thin.
Like really thin. Where are the example scenarios, the references to companies and organisations that have gone through the process, or have found a way to manage the Culture long-term. Where's is the advice about how to organise, plan, manage and gauge how the effort to establish the goal is progressing? Where's the Index, the Bibliography of additional books and links to pursue, the References section or Footnotes? There's a lot of useful detail here, but the book reads like the outline of what should have been a far bigger and more substantial volume. I read it inside an hour (the typeface font is rather tall).
So, Build A High-Performance Culture: Move from Ordinary to Extra-ordinary isn't very satisfying. It's a useful summary, but it really is just that. A summary. It could have been a 4-star, or even a 5-star rated tome, but it simply lacks the depth needed.
So I will progress to The Culture Code: The Secrets of Highly Successful Groups by Daniel Coyle, and Turn The Ship Around by L. David Marquet.
The Effectiveness Of A Leader Is Best Judged By The Actions Of Those He Guides _____BILL COURTNEY
Once the book was announced and available it was a no brainer for me to purchase my copy to have all the concepts in one place and to go through the ideas in succession. The principles covered in this book can be implemented by executive leadership. Given political games, lack of responsibility and accountability and passive-aggressive behaviour, employees long for authenticity and a forum to share ideas and concerns. This book serves as a resource to stop these behaviours and encourage alignment with institutional mission. Also in helping employees direct energy to more productive means of performance. While the examples provide support to the concepts outlined in the book, this content could be simplified, condensed or summarized for reinforcement and clarity. This book provides an additional approach like important pointers and concepts which are very useful for improving your performance silhouette and continuous improvement. This book is action-oriented based. The concepts present an action plan for trying them in your situation and to practice the ideas directly in day to day business life. This makes the book an instruction manual for nurturing improve performance. I was able to immediately relate to many points written in each chapter The performance-related skills presented in this book about understanding who to become, that is finding out what identity to achieve instead of just starting or stopping an addiction is very helpful. It conveys a very consistent message, excellently well-articulated, there are no words of filling but relevant information. It has a large base of examples to bring the theory to life. And one important aspect of this book is the wonderful quotes provided before every chapter. Once you have read the quotes this helps to understand all type performance-related concepts. Overall this book is a superb guide for anyone willing to get into the high-performance model The author very simply breaks down all the required tools and tips that you can be useful to give yourself that extra push and be your best version in whatever area you are working on in life right now. Would strongly recommend this book to absolutely anyone who is a beginner. My rating 4 star read 📖.

This book guides one on how to build a high performance culture by focusing on various sub-topics like its advantages, challenges, how to build high performance teams and what are their characteristics, what are the effective roles of a team leader and essential leadership skills, what are motivating pointers and how and why to retain them. The book has a lot to offer. The various researches, studies and results of surveys mentioned every now and then made the book very interesting and practical.
I liked the book as it had a lot of knowledge to offer. What I really liked was the topic of Problem Solver. I felt that being solution oriented is need of the hour, not only for corporates but also for at individual level, not only at professional level but also at personal level. ‘Whatever the problem , be part of the solution .Don’t just sit around raising questions and pointing out obstacles.’ Tina Fey. Also, the results of various surveys held my complete attention. I really like on where author has explained the close nexus between competition , fear of losing something and unethical practices. Moreover, the quotes given within the chapters are also very nice. Language is really easy and flowy. The way book is structured is really appreciated. It is divided into different chapters each covering specific topic related to build a high performance culture. Also, each chapter is further broken down into various sub points which are explained in detailed.

Book Review Book name: Build a High Performance Culture Author: Dr Ravindran KA
I really liked one line from this book- Build a High Performance Culture and that is ‘ One must understand that people are always in two categories in terms of performance, either worst or best’ actually this is the truth of life. When you are working professionally you are either good or you are bad there is no such term used as mediocre in any professional life.
Author Dr Ravindran KA writes about increasing once performance level from ordinary to extraordinary in his or her professional life. He shares various tips on - increasing loyalty at work place, - productivity, - benefits of joint efforts and team collaboration - high employee turnover - fear of failure - communication
And so on..
Many topics aren’t new to us but the solution is definitely better than what we have experienced in life. These topics are very tricky and helpful if one wants to lead a healthy competitive life in the long run. In today’s pandemic situation there is a lost of employee and employer relationship or a bond therefore it’s important to brush up our skills and understand the need of the hour.
At times a mentorship becomes a necessity in life. Dr Ravindran has covered important aspects of professional life quite magnificently. Like Very nicely said and quoted by Tony Robbins.
“Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach.”
I have always wondered why top B-schools like IIMs are known to offer the best marketing course or finance or general management for that matter but when an equally important pillar HR is talked about one has to look beyond IIMs and target XLRI, TISS, MDI and so on. Why Human Resources stream is always so underrated and often overlooked when it's the employees which makes a company and their well being should be of utmost importance.
'Build A High Performance Culture' talks about the essence of HR and major contributions made by them in the reals of management. The author talks about why a company often lacks in reaching its full potential and not able to unleash the most desirable performance from its employees. It refines the way of thinking of a professional and more so an individual and offers intricate solutions through which one can succeed in his space.
The book is hardly 100 pages read and can be finished in a single sitting. It inculcates a very important value that just by being a bit more empathetic towards everyone's needs, a company can flourish in a true sense. It should be read by everyone irrespective of whether he or she is looking to join corporates or government sector or even planning to start his or her own venture.
Respect, humility, gratitude, courage, vision, resilient, focused, flexible, creative and innovative these are words we often use in our professional life but how often have we thought to actually know the real meaning of it and the use of it at the right time.
Professionalism comes with humanity and we often think that we have it but when it comes to using it we tend to overshadow it. Here comes a role of a mentor who is experienced and can define certain terms at large while making the best use of it ‘professionally’. Author Dr Ravindran Ka in his book ‘build a high performance culture’ gives an elaborate version of professional terms and guides its readers on to become successful leaders.
He believes ‘Leaders who have done the best over the long run are those who are the most creative and innovative.’ This is so true but first and foremost step is how to become a good leader? What qualities one must posses to become the best leader? What are the key factors to become the most successful leader?
It’s a book with simple language with simple solutions. I highly recommend this to all the readers.
