Scyth and the followers of the Sleeping Gods have lost the Holy War. The new gods, who call themselves the True Gods, celebrate, unaware that the Sleepers have one more temple left. But how long until they find out? After all, Scyth’s enemy Mogwai, once the strongest player on the planet, knows about Kharinza. The Supreme Legate of the Destroying Plague thirsts for vengeance and is eager to regain his former positions, becoming stronger every day, while Scyth, deprived of his invulnerability, has lost his former advantages.

Dan Sugralinov grew up in a small working-class town on the Russian border with Kazakhstan. It’s a miracle he survived his childhood games of hide-and-seek in the surrounding building sites complete with perilous rebar structures and flooded foundation pits.

Ever since he learned to read at the age of five, he couldn’t put a book down. Reluctant to earn himself the name of a conceited nerd, he concentrated on playing soccer which allowed him to become friends with the town’s toughest kids.

In 1995, he graduated with honors, entering the St Petersburg Academy of Engineering and Economics where he studied business creation. He must have done something right because in the years that followed, he first worked on TV and radio just to get the taste of it, then opened his first successful business followed by several more. In between, he started writing and playing video games, winning the St Petersburg Mortal Kombat championship and becoming runner-up for Starcraft and Warcraft 3. He is a 14-times champion in Quake, Quake 2 and Quake 3 as well as the world’s ex-#1 in the World of Warcraft.

In 2004, he wrote his first motivational novella The Bricks which to date has garnered him over 3,000,000 readers online alone.

In 2014, Russia’s leading publishers of business literature Mann, Ivanov & Ferber published a revised and extended edition of his book, The Bricks 2.0.

In 2015, Dan discovered the existence of LitRPG. He devoured everything that had been written in that genre until he finally decided he too could write similar books.

In summer 2017, he published his first book in the subgenre of realRPG: Level Up.

Dan Sugralinov is a consummate gamer, a multiple MMORPG champion and the world’s ex-#1 in the World of Warcraft. He is also a successful businessman and author of books on marketing and business organization. His first LitRPG series Level Up took Russia by storm in 2017. Its English translation is about to be released on Amazon.

I received a review copy of this book.
I'd forgotten I was reading this book, so sorry for the late review.
I liked this book. It didn't quite go where I expected it to, there wasn't nearly as much spirit advancement of skills in this book as I'd expect, based on the title, but it certainly did advance the storyline enough to keep things interesting, and although the ending wasn't what I expected either, (well, not sure what I expected), it still leaves one with a sense of accomplishment. Will happily read the next one when it comes out.

First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”

Second, I am not a bot...at least I don’t think I am. Yes this is copy pasta (just learned that term, so fun!) simply because I feel like any book I read deserves acknowledgement but at the same time my feelings on reviews conflict with the normal review process.

I enjoyed this book, so my goal is to promote it and help the author. If you are a potential reader, just stop reading now and take the above as all you need to know. I am not going to share my reasoning, thoughts on the book, or any opinions that would influence your decision to read it. It is my opinion that Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. Or not if you don’t think this book is for you. That choice is all yours and the beauty of art appreciation. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.

If you are a member of the IAK Guild (thanks, Jason) or part of the review police, feel free to criticize me and challenge my philosophy on reviewing art. I think we all love a good debate. The forums are open and I welcome your comments. I was wrong in my previous request to get you to stop. Your blatant disregard for that request has led to some fun discussions. Growth is important for us all.

Cheers

Combined review for books 1-9 as I read them all before writing the review:

Certainly an interesting setting, both the world outside as well as the game. Sugralinov has setup and interesting and a little frighteningly plausible future where ai and robotics has progressed to the point to make most humans unnecessary. To keep people busy, and give them work, they've created a ubiquitous online game that people are required to play for a certain amount of time each day when their young, and when their older they can earn money through. Most people are just wage slaves though, restricted to pointless mining or other menial jobs. This book focuses on he higher echelons and the MC doing his best to raise the poorer people's standard of living.

A lot of questions are starting to rise about not just the game but the nature of actual reality as some things seem to bleed through. There's a bit of SOMA happening at one point too. All and all very engaging and I can't wait for more.

Fantastic, Exciting, Well Written

I just finished 6 books like a chain smoker; I lit one with the next. This series is well crafted. The two worlds, in game and out, run parallel and with cohesive independent story lines that shimmer in and out of each other seamlessly.

I was frankly pissed that the final books weren’t ready!

As a side note; I find these Russian authors to be great story tellers. They have a sense of history that is tangible, almost nonexistent with American authors. The stark reality of the non citizen world is what I imaging parts of soviet era Russian to have been. The translation was stellar, here and this author is clearly well read.

Thanks Dan, for giving me a few hours of escape in a fun world!

Another great book in the series

Scythes progression in this series is tremendous. I like that the author has included the pandemic in his world history and it’s nice that we survived it. Still global warming seems to have had a worse effect.

I thought that he’s abilities were overpowered especially not being able to die in the previous books. This book tuns this around now he is mortal and he’s enemies can’t die.

The real world issues with the game and dystopian future really make the game have actual consequences.

Firstly, if you liked the first 5 books, then do not even hesitate and take the 6th.
Secondly, it was very pleasant to realize during the whole reading of the Path of Spirit that my interest is not decreasing, but INCREASING! The author knows how to keep the intrigue, dynamics and deserves good reviews.
Third, this series is GREATLY underestimated! It is awesome! The best LitRPG in the stream of trash that is translated from Russia.
I'm eagerly looking forward to the 7th, I already made a pre-order!

Part one

This is a great story and a fun read. That being said at the end it definitely felt like half a book which I understand is exactly what happened the arc went to long and it had to be split. I am anxiously waiting to read the other part when it comes out

Great read

Not too much happens but it’s a good setup for a survivor type game that will happen next book. Enemies are definitely circling Scyth and he also gets a few new allies. Glad the next is soon out

Binge Worthy Series

Binge Worthy Series.
So wow a roller coaster 🎢 of happenings.
It’s great.
Some earlier loose ends get tied up nicely.
More wrenches 🔧 get thrown into the works.
No spoilers here.

Intrigue and suspense!

This book dives deep into the world of Disguardium and also into the remains of war-torn Earth, where the rich and powerful use underhanded methods to plot against those who seek to right the wrongs of the world. Very satisfying to read.
