A truly wonderful book. Author Kathy Howard shares insight into the Gospel of Mark through daily readings, questions and reflections. This is a great book to give as a gift. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.

This wonderful devotional and study guide will enhance the reader’s daily engagement with the Lord and His word. As a member of the online Bible study group which Kathy has led for several years, I have witnessed the transformative power of digging into scripture under her guidance.
In this book. Kathy offers daily insights from her life experience to connect with the readings in the Bible. As with a typical devotional format, a Bible verse is highlighted at the start of each day’s reading, and a short prayer ends the reading. In between those two appetizer and dessert features you will find some meaty subject matter, a nourishing filling to build your faith.
What is different about this devotional book? It offers a daily section of questions for reflection and response. The method used is known as Read, Record, Reflect, and Respond. It is a great help in retaining what has been covered each day. You will need a journal or a way to jot notes into your computer based on the questions covered. The act of writing is helpful for reinforcement in learning material. This is a tried and true teaching method. God’s word gets planted in the readers’ hearts and minds. No more shallow roots and withering faith.
Seasoned believers as well as seekers will appreciate Kathy’s personable style of writing and approach to digging into God’s word. It’s truly a priceless experience well worth the cost of the book. I am fortunate to be on the launch team for Deep Rooted. My life has been edified and enriched by Kathy’s wonderful studies. That has motivated me to share a review about this book. I have received no compensation for my review. My spiritual life received a much needed growth spurt through being faithful to study God’s word using Kathy’s process. I can not imagine anyone not liking this Bible study. It would be great to gather a group to work through it together.

Deep Rooted: Growing Through the Gospel of Mark by Kathy Howard is a forty day devotional which reads more like a Bible Study.
In short daily readings, you will find yourself reading through the Gospel of Mark and delving deeper into the Scriptures. Deep Rooted provides structure and guidance in a way to make these Scriptures understandable, practical, and applicable.
Each day uses a four step process:
Read – simply read the noted Scripture.
Record – what you observed in the passage.
Reflect – on your observations to discover the original meaning of the text.
Respond – using the questions shared, apply God’s Word to your life.
Some of my favorite thoughts from the book are:
“All too often we allow the seemingly urgent to push out the important because we fail to purposefully prioritize the important.”
“Jesus calls believers to sow the Gospel. To liberally spread the Good News of Jesus and His salvation all around us. We are not responsible for the response of the hearer, but we are responsible for sharing the Good News.”
“Let us humble ourselves before God and seek to serve the forgotten. Let us look for the invisible among us. Listen to the voiceless. Take up the cause of the powerless. For it is in this humble service that we truly serve our Jesus.”
This is a devotional which will bring a renewed and fresh look at the Gospel of Mark, resulting in roots which will deepen in the soil of Scripture and with Jesus.

I love this focus on the book of Mark and the life of Christ in Kathy’s inspiring new 40-day devotional, Deep Rooted. But it’s more than a devotional. It’s also a simple, yet profound Bible study that takes you on a journey to the heart of the gospel, and one that fosters a desire to know Christ more intimately. Using both background biblical helps and relevant illustrations, Kathy weaves together a study that will bless any reader and help root them deeper into God’s Word. The format is perfectly sized for daily portions and study for either individuals or groups. I especially enjoyed Kathy’s four steps of evaluating and personalizing each Bible devotional passage. It’s my pleasure to highly recommend her book, Deep Rooted.

This is an excellent devotional that brings Bible study and applications for life together beautifully. Each day isn’t too long so it’s doable every day. By using what Ms. Howard calls the 4-R Bible Study method (Read-Record-Reflect-Respond), you’ll be able to go deeper into the Scriptures. By the end of this 40-day devotional, the 4-R method will be a habit. This devotional is for the new to Bible Study as well as those who’ve done many studies. I highly recommend this devotional.

I have enjoyed the other books I have read by this author so I was looking forward to this one. The way she used the 4 R technique(read, record, reflect, respond)is so important in digging into scripture.

Deep Rooted is a devotional that helps you see Jesus in a different light than you may have read before. Each day there is a scripture and a short devotion with some questions that urge you to think about the Gospel in a new light! I have even used some of the devotions with my teenage wondering our Bible study time. Great book!

If you're looking for help diving into a study of Jesus, this book, part devotional, part Bible Study will help you. The author delves into the book of Mark, taking you on a journey of Jesus' ministry. Spend 40 days with this book and come away with a new perspective. I was provided a complementary copy of this book by the author. These thoughts are my honest opinion.

A wonderful study of the Gospel of Mark. Kathy Howard broke the readings down into manageable sections and provides a lot of insights and thought provoking questions. Looking forward to her next Deep Rooted study on the Book of Acts.
