I enjoyed the first book of this series, and the second one was equally as entertaining.

The characters continue to grow, and you learn a lot more about them and their own personal goals. There are some actual touching moments in this book and they really help to round out some of the character's vulnerabilities. You learn a lot more about the elf and her family, as well as the tension between them and the human nation.

Of course Diablo remains drastically over powered, though he does meet some matches in this book, which was good to see. There is a certain amount of power tripping that occurs with him as the protagonist, but overall it's actually handled fairly well, and to the point where they are enjoyable. (much like reading about Conan and losing oneself in being a barbarian fantasy)

They also set up an interesting cliff hanger with the human knight, which I am excited to see play out (as I already know what happens from the anime, I am curious as to just how much more is in the book).

As far as light novels go, I really liked this one. It was an easy read, I love the characters and their interactions, and the situations they end up in are interesting and unique. (though a bit softcore porn-ish if you will) Overall, I would recommend this series to anyone looking for a light novel!

Jumped into the second one a few weeks after reading the first one, and yeah, I actually am still really enjoying this series. Volume 2 has Diablo having to deal with the fact that Shera (the elf one) is being called back to her elven kingdom by her brother to marry him and have his baby. (this does not go over well) Most of the story is about this plot along with them trying to remove the slave collars from Rem and Shera.
This was definitely more of a Shera book as, while Rem had a few things going on, it definitely relied more on Shera's backstory. While I prefer Rem as a character to Shera (Rem's the one on this cover) i don't actively dislike Shera, she's just your stereotypical big boobed innocent airhead. She's fine, but doesn't have as much going on character-wise as Rem.
This does have a lot of the stereotypical tropes in anime with super powered main character, but Diablo is funny and interesting enough to make it work. He pretends that he's this super alpha badass but underneath, he's secretly freaking out as he's terrible with social interactions and that in and of itself is interesting enough to make this story work for me.
There's a lot of smaller moments in this one, but I basically told you plot wise everything that happens in it. There's a few new characters thrown in here like the female slave master. She's pretty cool. Basically she sells slaves legally but in a very.... i guess mom like way. She treats the slaves more like children and pets and makes sure they're happy when in her care because as she says "no one wants a miserable or glass eyed broken slave" which to me is a very interesting take on that kind of character.
Everyone else in the story is fine as per usual, and I actively am excited to read the third book in the series, not to mention it got me interested in starting the anime series (which actually is pretty close to the light novels so far)

Here's hoping the next book will be just as good or better. straight 4 out of 5.

compared to 1st volume, 2nd volume offers more serious plot that make me can't stop reading it.
Diablo, the protagonist, also grew more "mature" like finally he realized he is no longer the old version of himself. such character development also fun and enjoyable.

I would say that both author and illustrator are successfully described the "preventing war" arc in really good pace and good details. It's not something as amazing as popular war story, but it's still in the range of enjoyable writing.

I personally didn't expect the light novel version is really enjoyable, and looking forward to know what kind of story Diablo, Shera, and Rem in the next volume!

I like this series, it’s cute. In many ways, it’s a typical isekai story but it's light-hearted and kinda relaxing to read so I'll probably keep reading it.

Once again. The LN is always better than the Manga. If you like the manga, you should give this a whirl.

Diablo has gotten more than he bargained for when his elf companion Shera finds herself at the center of a dispute between the elves and humans. Shera's a runaway princess, but the elves want her back. Specifically, her brother wants her back, because he's intending to produce children with her. And he's willing to risk a war to get her. Diablo has taken a quest to stop the war, but how can this socially anxious roleplayer handle something that requires so much talking?

I still don't like most of the girls. Shera is stupid, and then she gets strung up and humiliated (ad then she's supposed to be sorry her would-be rapist got what he so richly deserved?). That last rang especially false to me. It would've been more important to stop someone who was in a position of power and clearly not above abusing it any way he could.

That said, Diablo still carried the story for me. He's still trying to figure out what carried over from the game and is blindsided by some things in this world that weren't in the game---or things that simply act like a real creature and not a preprogrammed set of behaviors.

I also like that Diablo has clear limits. This is obvious in his panic over how to handle a situation he can't simply blast his way through, as well as the problems he runs into once he actually can fight.

Alicia was also a nice addition to the cast, as the so far only girl who isn't fawning over Diablo nor getting into compromising situations with him. She's merely someone who is here to be competent and professional.

Unfortunately the series still leans heavily into its fanservice, which continues to sacrifice plot and character in order to have a lot of skeevy stuff going on. The "body pillow" at the end is pretty much just assault.

It's a shame that fanservice is such a BIG focus for this series, because I think it handles its main character and world a lot better than some similar titles. And I would be interested to see things like whether Diablo finds his customized dungeon in this world as well, but I'm not sure I want to keep skimming the increasingly explicit scenes that are showing up to get there. I rate this book Neutral.

For volume 2 I found myself finding many excuses to put the book down (until the last 70 pages or so). There were times when I couldn't even make myself read 10 pages without having to put it down and go do something else. It just wasn't all that interesting.

And Diablo... what a dolt. He is so wishy-washy I don't know if I should root for him or just punch him. He won't commit to being the Demon Lord, and yet he's too cowardly and stupid to just be himself thinking he has to be the "Demon Lord". And it comes up EVERY time a decision has to be made.

The story finally gets move three-quarters into the book and was actually fairly interesting and entertaining at that point. But getting there was ... tedious.

You can also expect the near ecchi levels of fan service as you should be familiar with from volume 1.

Verdict: I'll read at least one more, but this one lacked an interesting story/action until far late into the book for me.

Another fun installment!

When our shut in hero finds himself transported into the world of his favorite MMORPG and accidentally enslaves the two girls that summoned him, he finds himself in his demon lord persona. It’s fun to see “Diablo” learn the ways of this new world and forced to navigate personal relationships for the first time. It gets a little bogged bogged down in fan service (“Diablo” spends at least a couple times sort of innocently groping the girls he encounters) and I would love to see a little more character development, but other than that, this is a very enjoyable series, especially for those familiar with MMORPGs. I will be looking for the next installment when it is released.

Poor story and plot.

The story is weak and the plot doesn’t make sense. The characters are interesting although nothing new. The main character is not consistent on his actions and end up lacking in charisma and originality.

Good translation

The translation of this one is superb especially compared to some others like it where you have to have a PhD in literature to have a chance of piecing together a coherent sentence this one didn’t have that all in all a great book

Yes.

What a bother having to type a review. Why is my 5 stars not good enough? The story was great. I love diablo. However he would get better at talking to girls eventually right?

Loving the viewing the world as a game perspective like in the first volume but this time there are surprises everywhere. This was a fun read.

As much as i enjoyed reading How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord volume 2. What let's down this book is not the story in itself, it's the exposition, there is a bit too much of it, that the story grinds to a halt for a few pages as Diablo has to compare Cross Reverie to its game counterpart to the point where information repeats itself almost like the author forgot what he had already wrote. From magical items to the overhead map in the games counterpart after awhile I would think Diablo would realize that the world of Cross Reverie and the game he played should be seen as separate entries. I hope this overuse of exposition isn't used in every LN book. I could feel myself getting bored everytime this book repeated itself.

Since I hate when they do why bro/sis com stuff this one has some heavy siscon stuff with sheers and her brother best to skip those parts in my opinion.
