Jae-seong is the leader of InFINITY, the most famous K-pop group in the world, but after completing his mandatory military service, he longs for more out of life than his career. Intrigue turns to interest when he befriends Jenna, a world-class photographer who is learning to live again after a brutal sexual assault. Flourishing careers and personal insecurity challenge their relationship as friendship begins to deepen into something more. Jae-seong has spent the last decade building a career that anyone in the music industry would envy. He has money and fame and loves creating music that moves people. His fans think he has it all, but he is often lonely. Not interested in one-night stands or being a gateway to other idols, Jae-seong has shunned relationships with women, his insecurity and anxiety contributing to his lack of confidence. When he meets Jenna on a return trip to Korea, the 12-hours they share talking about life and interests moves something in him. Jenna had resigned herself to living a life devoid of romance after surviving a rape at the hands of the man who had been her fiancé. In the ten years since the attack, she has focused on building her reputation as a photographer, creating a successful career for herself. Her friends and family have been there for her through it all, and she wants to believe their love is enough. A fan of InFINITY since their debut, Jenna never imagined becoming friends with the man the world knows as JS. But as their friendship grows, and her feelings for Jae-seong deepen, she wonders if she can overcome her past to be the woman he longs for and find a love she never expected.
The characters were somewhat interesting and I did finish the book, but mostly because I kept waiting for something to happen. The author set up a lot of things that could have been interesting but then never did anything with them. There was no real conflict to deal with, barely even psychologically, which given the characters backstories was disappointing. As much as I want stories to have happy endings, if nothing happens in the story and it’s basically just a giant fluff piece, it just feels unsatisfying.
Beautiful book! I've enjoyed every chapter of it. This book had an amazing outline and I felt alive with the characters that were introduced in the story.
Can't wait for the future volumes coming out soon!
This book is basically just 300+ pages of fluff. And boring fluff at that too because I ended up skipping through MANY pages so I could finish it sooner.
I mean, nothing ever actually happens here. It’s basically just “Famous Boy meets Regular Girl and Falls In Love At First Sight”. The main characters spend most of the book apart because they live on different continents, so most of their interactions are via text message or FaceTime calls. And then when they actually are together in person, I felt no genuine chemistry between them. He spends several months constantly trying to get to know her, but she always keeps him at an emotional and physical distance. Honestly, aside from being “incredibly beautiful” (like all romantic heroines apparently have to be 🙄) there’s really nothing particularly interesting about her and I had a hard time believing that any person (much less a famous good looking man) would devoted this much time, energy and patience to a woman who doesn’t seem romantically interested in him.
And while I do appreciate that the author handled the subjects of mental health and sexual assault with sensitivity, I also felt like the author only made the heroine a r*pe survivor because that way she could justify the total lack of physical intimacy between these two people. They didn’t even kiss until a few chapters before the end of the book. And aside from the heroine’s trauma, there is never any real conflict for the characters to work through. They get a happy ending but it doesn’t feel like it was truly earned.
Another thing that disappointed me was that the author (who is a white woman) didn’t tell us sooner about the heroine’s biracial identity and didn’t invest more time in writing about her multicultural family + home life. I would have really wanted to read more about the dynamic with her father (who is also biracial: Chinese/Jamaican), her brother (who is a Korean adoptee) and her absent mother (who is white French Canadian). The book focused almost entirely on the hero’s Korean culture and yet barely touched on the heroine’s multicultural + biracial identity. So yeah, I really wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone. It’s basically just Kpop fanfiction (with zero smut or spice) and if what you’re looking for is good Boyband/Rockstar romance books, then I’m sure there’s much better options out there than this one.
This was a cute romance, but the current fashion seem to be broken black females. Despite that , this book was cute and mushy. With a HEA and kinda sorta cliff hanger. I recommend it.
I enjoyed some parts, especially where the FL is meeting the members for the first time. There were just some parts where I thought needed more detail or would have added to the story.
I just couldn't get behind the writing style. Love love these types of books but this one just did not do it for me. This will be added to my DNF books. Maybe ill go view it another try some day
I think I just read my favorite book of the year. This book was so good!!!
1. I loved all of the characters and I cared about what happened to them
2. The writing was great and I felt like I was there
3. I didn't want the book to end!
4. This book had everything, romance, drama, friendship and a hopeful message
In all this book was amazing and I need the second one right now. If you love Kpop and a great story with characters you love and care about, then you need to read this book ☺
