Tony and Eleanor Grace are in more danger than ever. They need to get away from the city as fast as they can, but striking at the king of the underworld has consequences. The chase is on. A desperate escape across the country, searching for somewhere to finally feel safe, with killers at their heels. Their pursuers are brutal and ruthless, offering no forgiveness, no bargaining, and no happy ending. Tony and Eleanor have their backs against the wall – and that makes them more dangerous than ever. THE UNBURIED DEAD is the sequel to NO SAFE PLACE.
The Unburied Dead is the second book in the Grace thriller series by Craig Dawson, continuing the high-stakes journey of Tony and Eleanor Grace. In this sequel, the pair are once again on the run from ruthless enemies, desperate to escape danger and find safety while still facing brutal threats at every turn. The novel blends fast-paced crime thriller action with character drama, making it engaging for fans of gritty suspense stories. Many readers praise Dawson’s well-crafted characters and compelling storyline that keeps you turning pages, and the book holds strong ratings from readers who enjoy gripping thrillers.
I was thinking I might need a recap of the 1st book to prepare me for the sequel but no need, 1st page and Boom, I was right back in the story. I had to stop myself from skipping ahead in some of the Tony and Eleanor chapters cos I was so eager to see what they were up to. Trust me, it's worth taking the time to read it properly to fully set the scenes. Loved it, you get to know more about the characters and there's still a line of humour running through keeping the characters human.
Ok I gave the first book in the series five stars, because, despite some poor pacing caused by pages of boring filler, there was some good writing and plotting. But I had to think long and hard about those five stars, because there was a plot hole so senseless at the end that it was really annoying. Then I bought the second, and unbelievable: at the end, same ridiculous device! Really? They are so badass, but they make the same mistake again, even more implausible this time? Nope. Not going to do this a third time.
While it has a good story line it’s hard to follow with style of writing and word use unless you are well versed in English slang. Much like a person raised in England would have trouble with American slang. Would have given it a 3 and 1/2 if that were possible, but still would have read the story.
The Unburied Dead by Craig Dawson is a great second novel from this author. Well written, interesting characters and storyline. Couldn’t put it down; exciting til the end.
Enjoyed this more than No Safe Place. Knowing the Graces better (best to read the first in the series before reading this), the end scenario of Craig Dawson's debut novel was never going to be the end of matters. My favourite new thriller writer and hoping for many more to come
Craig Dawson has managed to make the second book, maybe, a bit better than the first. Of course, the reader has the security of knowing that the primary two characters cannot be killed off; otherwise there can be no Book 3; but even then, the process that the book goes through is interesting and pretty well done.
