“MOM…Come down here…FAST!” With those five words, everything in Nelly Branson’s life changed. Not only did they mark the beginning of her 57-year-old husband’s health crisis with brain cancer, they began her journey as his caregiver. With brutal honesty, author Nelly Branson tells the true story of how she managed to live through the diagnosis of Michael’s terminal brain tumor, his treatment and failing health, and ultimately, his death and her grief. But within this tragic story are also moments of grace and light as Nelly and her daughter find strength in Michael’s humor and love, the support of others, and amazingly, a connection with Michael past the grave. Told through Nelly’s eyes with excerpts from readings with a medium, readers have the opportunity to share how one woman reached out to her husband after his death and found validation that his soul continues to share in her life experiences, loving and protecting her. Whether or not you are a skeptic or believe in mediums, Michael is an inspirational story about a family’s love, the strength of the human spirit, and what may possibly come next.

Interesting

This story is obviously about Michael, the author's husband, and their family's journey through the devastating diagnosis of brain cancer. Michael is suddenly diagnosed with glioblastoma, Stage IV. This true story covers some of their life BEFORE cancer, the diagnosis, a little bit about the treatments, navigating extended family visits, symptom progression and more.
Although I understand everyone has their own story and beliefs, I found myself wishing there wasn't so much about Nelly and their daughter Janelle's repeated visits to a medium. I understand some find comfort and strongly believe. I personally feel most anyone, especially with current technology, can book an appointment with someone, then look up their name and social media presence and find at least enough to start off sounding pretty convincing!
Then this medium and many others put their statements often ending in the form of a question such as "I'm seeing a lady come through... She has blonde hair and I'm hearing the letter M?" At that point the medium will look at the person they're doing the reading for and look for a subtle signal such as a slight nod, a puzzled look, a gasp or intake of breath. If they are right, they keep going. If they are wrong -- using the above statement as an example and the client says "Her name is Audrey, that's not an M name!" Medium might say "Hmmm, I was sure it was an M I was hearing ...sigh, but maybe not..." just as client says "Ohhh, wait, I just remembered! Audrey just recently started dating a guy with the last name of " Mitchell! " Also the medium tends to keep her statements pretty generic -- easier to get a "hit" that way. Again, in the above example... Of COURSE she "sees a blonde haired woman" -- I know one who has passed. I bet YOU do too!
The book DID do fairly well at keeping my attention. It is edited well and Nelly writes in a way that is easy to follow for the most part. I do wish there had been more depth to it however.
