Cade Myers was enjoying his transition from big city homicide detective to small town sheriff. The pace of his new town is much slower and the crime rate is almost non-existent. In his first year the only crime he encountered was littering. Paperwork was his biggest problem until one night on his way home he finds a woman with head trauma and drenched, on the side of the road. From the first moment she opens her beautiful brown eyes in that hospital bed, Cade is hooked. He spends his time trying to figure out who assaulted “Mary”. Cade can’t imagine anyone wanting to hurt the sweet, kind-hearted, gorgeous, librarian, for everyone loves Mary and he was afraid that it definitely included him.
“Mary Smith” was 13 months old. She loved her books, helping kids, and the sexy sheriff, Cade Myers. She’d be happy with her lot in her short life, if she could stop having troublesome dreams, deal with her secret admirer, dispel the dread of shadowy memories.
Almost overnight, Cade’s small town started taking on traits of the big city he left behind. He had a prankster that was getting out of hand, a missing witness from the WITness SECurity program, an escalating stalker, a vandal, and he had to deal with it all while he falling hopelessly in love...No problem.
I enjoyed the ride, but not the cliffhanger, nor the seemingly irresistibility of the heroine, for whom several men in town lost their damn minds. The cliff ending was a humdinger, so now I anxiously await 'Whiteout'coming Summer 2021! Did I mention that the hero is the local sheriff? Oh yeah, my secret kryptonite!
Highly Recommended: Read It!
WARNING: Please know in advance that this story has major plot triggers.
just finished reading this and was sorry it ended. I will be looking for part two. The old saying that nothing that you know is true can certainly apply here. Like most people, I try to guess the identity of people involved in stories. i am not always right, but I like to think I am right more often than not. There were a couple of events in this book that I was right about and a couple that I was not right. It should make interesting reading for the second book.

A lot of things to like - engaging characters, clashes between characters, romance, steamy scenes, drama and a nice build-up of tension. And an out-of-the-blue twist at the end.
I wasn't expecting a cliff-hanger ending, and wouldn't have read it had I known.
First, this ends in the mother of all cliffhangers. Second, the writing is good and the plot twists are insane. You'll like the characters and have plenty of WTF moments. In fact, this one ends with the biggest one of all.
The women in this story make women look like silly idiots! Going out and participating in very harmful and criminal pranks because of a boy child you like. Going tramping around the woods looking for you know not what, egged on by another silly woman, all while still afraid of a stalker. Just plain foolishness! To be honest, I give myself more credit than this kind of behavior!
As I got farther and closer to the end, the silliness made more sense from the viewpoint of the writer. But also, I was very disappointed at the end, as I did think the Sheriff was being careless and was too invested into the Mary he wanted for himself and not the reveals he was getting from her memory snatches. It appears it will cost him, but we will not know how completely, as this ended as a cliffhanger!
I am reading this at year end, 2021, so there should be a conclusion already! But, there is not! This happened with one other book I read and that author waited 2 years before she put out her conclusion. It was not worth the wait! That should not happen, as there should be forewarning that a part 2 is possible. The reader should be made aware before they get to last page and investing so much of their time!
Edit: The more I thought about this after I posted my review, the more I realize that this is not a romance and should not be listed as one. This female (Mary) is criminally insane and I wish to note that her situation should not be exploited as a serial. This woman should be allowed to be locked up in an institution until she is helped or she should be put to death. She should not be allowed to murder anymore innocent people. If she was just a vigilante, after the bad guys I could view this as being a more credible use of her skills. But, this person has psychopathic tendencies that need to be curtailed! The world does not need her as she is written here in this story!
Blackout by Cate McCoy was an excellent and amazingly written story. Calling this a story isn't doing it justice. This book read like an excellent suspense movie. It had intrigue, action, great chemistry and character development. I would highly recommend Blackout by Cate Mckoy and I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.

The small town of Eldred was doing fine until they hired a new Sheriff. Then all of a sudden it was chaos. One thing after the other started happening. The new Sheriff is running around trying to solve crime & murder cases & also falling in love at the same time. The only thing is, the woman he's falling for has no real identity because she's lost her memory. Sheriff has been warned about falling for her but he doesn't listen. He should've.
Psychological Thriller. On the surface "Mary Smith" appears wholesome, kind and loving. However, looks can be deceiving. She has endured more than any one person should. Cade Myers loved Mary from the moment he met her, but is he walking into danger? I read this book in January 2021. It has taken me two years to write this review. As of September 2023, I have not read the sequel....but I am going to!!!! The ending of Blackout disturbed my heart, spirit and soul but I am stronger now.
Book is thrilling, sad and loaded with surprises. This was an amazing read. I am so sorry that the story ended on a cliffhanger. I am so excited about the upcoming conclusion. Characters were engaging the anticipation as I read each chapter was adrenaline inducing. Please hurry with book two.
What an excellent storyteller, this book is a chameleon just when you think it's one thing there is another twists that changes everything. Very smart, very slick. You will love the lead characters. I can't wait for the next instalment. I recommend you will not be disappointed.
First let me say I’m glad I read this when I knew part two was due out because BABY…. The cliffhanger! This book is twisted and if you thing you know you don’t! So many other things going on, you don’t see it coming. It’s 2am and I have to start Whiteout. Read This Book.
This book grabbed my attention from the first chapter and held it until the very end. I kept trying to figure out what was going on and was wrong each time. Mary was a mystery and I couldn’t wait to find out more about her. The ending totally blew me. On to book 2 I go. I found this author’s story during BRAE 2025.
This story is for the ages! Omg, there were so many twists and turns and things I just didn’t see coming. The only downside of this story is having to wait until this Summer t o read the conclusion. But don’t let that stop you from reading this now...it’s that good!
So good, can't wait for part two. Mary, Mary such a contradiction. Chad who are you? Why do have a special room in your house? I hope part two answers all these questions.
That ending was definitely not what I expected. The twists and turns and craziness of it all, kept me so invested. At the same time, I’m totally shocked at the cliffhanger.
This is an unputdownable read!!! Ms. McKoy has mastered an intriguing suspense thriller. I don't want to reveal anything about this story it has to be experienced. CANNOT WAIT TO PART 2!!!!
