Caje Cole #9

Sniper's Justice

Rate this book
Just when it looks like Allied troops are finally winning the massive Battle of the Bulge in the snowy Ardennes forest, German forces launch a devastating counter-attack called Operation Nordwind. U.S. sniper Caje Cole and his squad are among those rushed to support the battered Allied troops in the Vosges Mountains. They find themselves defending a mountain village from Panzers and a crack Wehrmacht force that includes a cruel German sniper known as The Butcher, whom Cole has tangled with before. Surrounded in the deep, wintry hills, the odds seem impossible, but the defenders have Cole and his rifle on their side. For Cole, the battle leaves some unfinished business. Years later, on a trip to Germany to help dedicate a WWII museum, Cole will have to settle the score once and for all to satisfy his “Sniper’s Justice.”

David Healey made his publishing debut with SHARPSHOOTER, a what-if historical thriller about an attempt to assassinate Union General Ulysses S. Grant during the Civil War, published by an imprint of Penguin Putnam. That novel was the result of years of research into the Civil War that included time as a reenactor at Gettysburg and other battlefields.

In its review, the Civil War News wrote: “SHARPSHOOTER has the feel of a techno-thriller, the kind offered by Tom Clancy or Dean Koontz ... SHARPSHOOTER moves quickly and is filled with all manner of intrigue."

Healey has brought that same passion for research and history to his World War II novels, GHOST SNIPER, ARDENNES SNIPER, and RED SNIPER. During a 21-year career as a journalist, he was fortunate enough to interview many veterans of the 29th Division who landed at Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944. Some of the events and characters in these novels were inspired by their stories.

He loves the idea of a character like Micajah Cole, a self-reliant backwoods hunter who turns out to be unrelenting and ruthless as a sniper, especially against a skilled adversary, in the pages of these books.

In addition to fiction, he has written books on regional history, including 1812: REDISCOVERING CHESAPEAKE BAY'S FORGOTTEN WAR and GREAT STORMS OF THE CHESAPEAKE.

A graduate of Washington College and the Stonecoast MFA program, he was recognized in 2011 as a Chaney Scholar in history by St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Visit him online at www.davidhealeyauthor.com or follow him at Facebook at facebook.com/david.healey.books

Almost perfect ending

Why almost? City Boy wasn’t there. Still a great story and a coming of age for a young boy. Caje Cole is the epitome of the American GI of WWII. Hated where he was but determined to fight fir a way of life that many try to diminish today. The US isn’t perfect, nor was Caje Cole. Just doing the best they can in a crappy situation. Those of the “Great Generation” are almost all gone now. They know there is very little “ upside” to war. It is old politicians sending the young ones to fight and die. Maybe they should be the ones to fight next. Great series and hate to see it end. Another possible series on Netflix. Good for about 6 seasons.

excellent series

Truly an excellent series, I enjoyed it very much and I’m looking forward to reading about Cole’s cousin next. Mr Healey obviously did a great amount of research to bring the characters to life developing them with the story to where I felt I knew them. To the potential reader - please don’t draw any conclusions from the title. This series is so much more than a war story. Thanks for this amazing read that was so well worth the time. I’m kinda sad it’s over but on to Pacific Sniper

This appears to be one of a series of books featuring a WW II sniper as the main character. In this one the sniper goes back to Germany as an old man to participate in the opening of a war museum which features him in his wartime role (hardly feasible). He encounters an old sniper foe who wants to kill him in revenge for wartime activities.
The writing level is quite basic but easily readable, although somewhat farfetched even for a story that is supposed to be fictional. Not an unpleasant read.

SNIPER'S JUSTICE is a wonderfully crafted mix of WWII action near the end of the Battle of the Bulge, and suspense set in contemporary Germany over 45 years later. When two old snipers on opposite sides during the war meet in Munich in 1991, it's clear that the acrimony that existed between them during the war remains, and that there are scores yet to be settled. A good page-turning read from author David Healey!

Wow!! What a finish David! Ya done good!!! Terrific series. Loved the way you blended the two timeframes. Thanks for the background on Caje and his wife. Loved the story of Danny and Angela. Would be neat to see them meet again in a future book. Great job!!!!!! The Pacific Sniper series was just as good. Now starting the Civil War series. I’m sure it will be a great ride. Keep up the good writing!!!!!

One last sniper duel

It's 1991 and Cole and his grandson, Danny, are guests attending the opening of the WW2 museum that has just opened in Munich. A voice behind him catches Cole's attention. He turns coming face to face with The Butcher!

an apt ending to a book series

Cole, the Hillbilly Sniper, is the protagonist in a WWII saga, whose genuine and credible heroics brought the war up close and personal for me. Mr. Healey knows his stuff!

Snipers' Justice

A stroll down memories lane for the subject of the story but triggered memories of the past that sympathized with the telling. A great ending to a game that kept me riveted to the book until I saw it through to the end.

you are a good author.

I have been reading this saga and appreciate your ability to have Caje finally get the butcher. 👍. I need to get back to Devon Cole. PS I am from West Virginia. Born in Charleston.

This is a typical good versus evil plot set in the second world war and years after the two protagonists continue their duel. There is nothing new here. It is reasonably well written, but I struggled to keep interested as the plot was so obvious. A bit like to the old westerns I used to read.

There is a reckoning

This whole series has been worth reading through 9 books. Hillbilly does achieving the end to his battles, but not necessarily the way he expected. The final book is an encapsulation of the brutality of war. Is there really a victor?
