Time has a way of changing a man forever. At least that’s what Jericho Johnson thinks after waking up strapped to an operating table in the year 2344 being held against his will in Flagstaff, Arizona. It’s been almost three years since he last remembered anything and now he’s been pieced back together by Dr. Cross, a man with a shadowy agenda. After discovering he now possesses new-found abilities that are, however helpful at times, frightening to wield, Jericho breaks free, unleashing his raw unpracticed powers before meeting someone who knows more about him than he realizes, sending him on a mad quest for revenge to Anchorage, Alaska, where the man responsible for his current sorrows resides. With a few new comrades in tow, Jericho sets out on a post-apocalyptic road trip from hell across what’s left of North America with all manner of creatures and enemies along the shattered road to glorious vengeance. Welcome to the Wasteland.
Everything I said about Gauntlet, book one of this series, throw out the window and try to find it in ten feet of snow. That is how it feels to read this book and I mean that in the best possible way. From start to finish you and Jericho feel hopeless and lost. John G Doyle got us into this habit of time traveling with our chucks on and being home by dinner. Wasteland has us hoping we survive through the night even if we have cool powers, super suites or insane robots. More feelings and a larger ensemble round this book out creating all them feels.
I keep flip-flopping between Team P and Team B, and was even Team B2 for a little... I'm just..ugh... JOHN!!! Why do you do this to me? So many emotions, so many nails bitten, so many tears cried. I'm still a little dizzy from the rollercoaster ride.
I had to put it down so many times because life kept getting in my way, I'm so sad it took me so long to finish it, but so glad I finally did!!
This series needs to be put into live action... just sayin'. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would.
You are beyond phenomenal, my friend. I can't wait to dive into Book 3!
Grabbed this book because I follow the author on TT with TAA (IYKYK). Got through the book very quickly. Found the protagonist to be cocky, sexist & misogynistic. If you’re a very PC type of person, stay away from these books.
As it’s a SciFi/Time Travel/Fantasy series, I thought “keep an open mind”. This book (the whole series actually) needs an editor. Several misspelled words or grammar issues. In one book (cannot remember which) at least half a sentence, if not more than that, is missing! Was unsure what happened, but pretty sure I didn’t miss too much.
I believe this is the author’s first stab at a (self) published work and commend him on his attempt.
Sooooo….. this was a ride! The first book ended in a way where you’re thinking, “WHAT?!” And that question continues as you move through this book.
The writing style of this book is really interesting to say the least. It’s written in a way where the MMC is continuously breaking the fourth wall and you come to realize that it’s written more like a story being told to you. There’s lots of “telling” in this book, which typically is a big turn off for most but, for some reason, it just makes this story flow.
The humor in this book is fun!! One thing that I am not used to reading is a MMC having multiple women throwing themselves at him. Is this common for male authors? Like, Jericho is not the only man in the book, and yet, every woman is flirting with him!
On a different note, I know Jericho has been completely rebuilt but I am not understanding this Secret Sneak mode and the whole mind reading/body controlling plot point. I’m back to asking, is this going to be cleared up in the following books?
Overall, I’m invested. I do agree with a lot of other readers. The story is interesting and I haven’t read anything similar to it but this could REALLY use an editor. I think it will only help!
This book is more for the “vibes” than anything. I’m having fun, the MMC is kind of an ass but *shrug*.

This book was better written than book 1, though there are still some issues that keep this from a 5 star rating. There are still “author interruptions” that stop the flow of the novel. Referring to the reader as “whoever you are” is irritating at best. Jericho almost feels like a whole new character in this novel. What I don’t understand is how he never mentions Evonne and Louise at all. Chloe is not even really mourned. It’s like the author decided he didn’t like those characters and got rid of them. Jericho is also a little too overpowered.
Thanks to you insomnia and ticktok , I found Mr. Doyle. This is not my typical read but being a follower, I had to see what he could do, and I'm greatly impressed. While I'm impatiently waiting on book three, at least I can spend my time waiting for Alan to turn around. I hope book three comes soon, and Alan never turns around. Alan, Mr. Doyle, is my daily cliffhanger. Thank you for all of your creative outlets. You are awesome!
The second in this series was very meaty. Lots of depth to the storyline as Doyle builds the world around the future. Allies and enemies are given the stage and spotlight.
If you read Gauntlet first, then you’ll find your favorite characters developing quite nicely in this follow up.
I was very eager to read the second book. Now I can’t wait for the third in the series to be released.
Loving this series in a big way. I got to 97% of the way in the book… knowing the 3rd wasn’t out yet and I just sat for a bit to enjoy it before I continued. You know, like you do when a good book is about to end and you want to continue yet at the same time…. You want to savor every possible moment. And thanks for the epilogue man. You did good. Xoxo, m
John G. Doyle does not disappoint! Continuation of Jericho Johnson’s story of how he becomes a super human, a Paladin, how he is super strong, with amazing abilities like throwing bolts of electricity and mind reading those he has “melded” with! Mr, Doyle writes this story in style that makes you want to know what’s next. It’s fast paced and not over scientific but very futuristic!! Deserving of all the stars.

A road trip of epic proportions. Jericho is back and out for revenge in the most awesome way. With an even wider array of lovable characters to help and annoy him along the way, our favorite guy faces zombies, ice spiders, killer cats and a mega mega awesome wolf. All with style of course. Kinda. Follow Jericho as he untangles his destiny and migrates through the most awkward relationship issues imaginable. A thrill ride once again!
I was looking forward to this second book of the Phoenix Cycle having loved the first one. This was fast paced, still humorous and kept me gripped from the start. I am so invested in all the characters and can't wait to start the third book immediately. I would really recommend this series to anyone.
I could not put this one down! The writing style is great and the story line is so engaging. Jericho's journey is never expected (in the best way). I ordered the 3rd on kindle and paperback. I can't wait to see what is next.
Another exciting episode in the many lives of Jericho Johnson. Lots of 24th century action, with occasional deaths and the ever-present possibilities of more time travel. Again. Or still. Or whatever. Good luck; I'm off to Book 3...
What an absolutely STELLAR book. All the new characters, action, adventure, treachery...I stand by that I will recommend this series to anyone. On to book three!
This book keeps surprising me & I love it. Always enjoy when I can't guess where the plot is going. Can't wait read book 3 or 4. Luckily I have book 3 ready to go...
This gets a “better than book 1” rating by the skin of its teeth. Every woman around is still in love with Jericho and everybody wants to kiss him. The story is better, though.
"Let's be friends until the day we die." There's a beautiful poetry in the above quote that doesn't quite come to full fruition until the end of the book, and I've never been happier to experience this sort of circular allegory in a story. I'm not sure there's much else to say other than this sequel did not disappoint. I love these characters (especially our witty hero Jericho) and the story that continues to develop here. While this series does follow a hero's journey arc, it does so in a refreshing way as we work through the story and the world that's been built here. Giving us small glimpses of foreshadowing through the storytelling mechanic of these books is simply brilliant. I can't wait for the next installment.
