This is the first book in the Fated Mates of Xaensskar series. *-*
Some aliens are so fierce that a girl can't see a heart in all the darkness... not even when fate chooses one of them for her.
Forced to stand in the window of a sex shop to attract customers, Tempest is beginning to believe the worst thing that can happen to her is dying of sheer boredom.
Then she catches the attention of a type of alien she's never seen before. He's like a shadow, darker than the night sky, a silver sword at his side. But no matter how frightening he is, there's something so mysterious and intriguing about him that she can't get him out of her mind.
When she's sold once again, this time to a cruel, terrifying master, she doesn't believe she'll ever see the dark stranger again.
♥♥♥
Kelos doesn't believe a delicate human female can ever look at him with anything other than fear and revulsion. Surely she won't want him to touch her. Surely she won't want him to love her. But from the moment he catches and holds her stare, he wants her.
He plans to get her to safety, no strings attached. But plans can go awry. First, he'll have to take her from the cruel four-armed Khork who just bought her... And Khorks aren't known to give up anything without a fight. *-*
If you like steamy fated mate alien romance between Earth women and fierce but protective alien males, you'll love this alien romance series! Intended for 18+ readers.
I loved the book, but the ending was really disappointing, It was very abrupt and just Not a High point! The story build was fantastic and it was great world building The Characters where good and solid. It was a promising start I thought wow so epic And then nothing.....I
I would recommend it the author shows great potential hope the next book is better!
Alien Heart starred abducted human Tempest who had been abused at the hands of her first "owners" and kidnappers before they solder her to an alien who just used her as a living mannequin. When she is about to get sold back to the same race that first took her (the ones from her nightmares), the hero shows up. Kelos is a shadow alien who is shunned and feared and treated with disgust by women, so he's absolutely sure Tempest won't want someone like him. And of course he's the obscenely handsome and also protective and strong alpha and thus the typical misunderstood anti-hero with a heart of gold that only the heroine sees. They see each other first while she is "on display" and then he finds out she is being sold and rescues her.
If I had to pick out flaws, they would be that there was very little world-building. Was the alien planet similar to earth in coloring? Why could everyone speak the same language--did she learn it or have a language chip implanted or something? I only realized how technologically advanced they were halfway through the book--I kept seeing trucks and then carriages in my mind. Were there ever biological anomalies between humans and aliens? Can they have kids? what cultural differences might have gotten in the way? How common were humans and what history was there? why abduct them at all?
However, the book scratched an itch for a quick and easy book with a HEA, so I am satisfied!
Rounding up (not quite 3 stars) While this wasn’t bad, it left a lot to be desired. It read a lot like a novella even though Amazon says 174 pages (something I usually avoid by not reading books under 100 pages if I can help it). The background development of the story was light like you normally see in novellas. I really didn’t get much of a background/world building. I also felt the characters needed more fleshing out, I really didn’t read (actions) about them as much as I was “told” indirectly about them by the author. I also felt it was to fast into insta love, it’s not a fated mate thing to justify it, & I really didn’t feel the “love” between them though I could see long term that it might develop maybe in an epilogue months later sort of thing. I wasn’t into the story enough to continue with the series.
Written for mature readers due to subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language, semi steamy intimate scenes and violence.
I wasn’t for sure about this story when I first read the description, but I am glad that I took a chance. At the basic heart of the story is two people that have received physical and/or mental abuse in their lives. There are a few grammatical errors so that is why I gave it 4 stars.
this was good but it had the potential to be great. the characters were solid to start with but things stopped making sense. the darkness terrified everyone and was treated like he would never belong anywhere, or at least that's how they made it seem. Yet in the sanctuary villages and his parent's home and his own home, the people love him and don't seem at all scared. which defeats him having the belief no one will ever want him. Tempest was interesting but too trusting for someone so traumatized. It was off to a good start but then kind of fell apart in the details.
Another Jude Gray winner! I love stories with a hero who believes he's a monster and a women who has the strength to love them even if they are different species. Tempest sees the good inside him and feels safe for the first time in a long time. Their story is a great read but it ends too soon! A sequel to these two would be wonderful!! Can't wait to read the next Xaensskar Book 😀
This is a good read. A tidy plot, some drama, nasty bad guys, and a likable hero and heroine. The characters are maybe a little superficial, but for a quick KU alien romance read it was quite good and didn’t end up being another annoying DNF for me. I also like the idea of sanctuary cities throughout this alien world, and a couple of characters who weren’t all good or bad, lending this world a bit more complexity than some others in this genre.
Loved the idea of Kelos the shadow man, there is so much more to his people's story. Tempest was a good character and she was not a fighter and knew it. Marsa was a good addition, there's a story there that needs to be told. The ending was flat, main characters made it safe to Kelos home. Would have loved epilogue. Never read this author before, will try other book to see if this is how all her books end.
I have to be honest after eating that's book I have questions .1 why is he so different from Shadow people? 2Why do his own people treat him different?
If you're looking for a soft alien romance you're not gonna get it with this book, this is not necessarily a bad thing Definitely a more barebones type.
Over the book was decent and I'll read the next story to get a better understanding of this writer.
fast alien romance, a little dark with the sold into slavery details, and a little silly with the mains childlike behaviour even though she is in her 20s. Fast and steamy, the story moves quickly so the world building, background details, and side characters aren't very fleshed out.
new to me author and even though I struggled personally with the darker details of the fmc's situation, I will probably check out the next book
Wow! This was a alien romance that put me through all the feels. It made me laugh, grit my teeth, fist pump and get weepy eyed. I really liked the two main characters; Tempest with her optimism and Kelos with his quiet strength. There is action and steamy scenes that made me so happy for the couple. I really enjoyed reading this one.
Ms. Gray did it again. Great start to a new series. I love how she captures you with her descriptions of her worlds. I loved the characters and their development in their feelings with each other. Can't wait to read the other books to this series! Well done!
No real substance. It's kind of an unloved hero trope, and he has trust issues, but the Insta love kind of undoes it. It's not bad. On the contrary, I enjoyed it. I wish there was more to the story, but Jude paints a clear picture for such a quick and easy read. I might read it again.
I love the couple but wished Kelos was a little more confident in his relationship with with tempest a little more Alpha .I would have given I 5 * then . I also wished it shoe tempest get a bit of revenge on Amy. I enjoyed the book and plan on reading the nest book in the series.
I couldn't connect with the characters, there just wasn't much depth or development. The MMC was interesting but no explanation as to why he was so different. This was a hard book for me to get through, I stopped reading it several times and only came back because I hate to DNF. It was just lackluster compared to other alien books I have read.
I love stories where the hero thinks of himself as unlovable and has to come to terms with the right woman setting him straight. This was one of those stories. The only thing that could have made it better would have been to add about 200 more pages to it!
Good pacing, fast-action, and characters properly developed in the spacing of the book so they felt unique and not mary sue. I do not have a problem with insta lust or fated mates so enjoyed the pace of the romance.
Entertaining but short. I would have liked this one to be a little longer. I felt like I'd just gotten in to the world and it was over. Good, quick read though. I'll most likely read the next book in this series.
Tempest is a slave and is forced to stand in a window, almost like a mannequin. Kelos sees her and is drawn to her. He rescues her and they have several adventures. They also have a lot of steamy time together. There are a few typos.
Who doesn't like a protector who is lethal to the bad slavers? Kelos is a warrior who scares the majority of beings he passes. Tempest is a human woman trying to stay alive.
I enjoyed this book very much and would definitely recommend it. It was superb there was suspense, a lot of emotion. It leaves you feeling good. In this time we need books that leave us with good feelings. Thanks so much for this book.
I couldn’t put it down. This was very well written book. Very detailed for such a quick read. I am eagerly ready to read the next book I will say this will be a reread for me.
I loved this couple so much. It's the first book I read with a character with Kelos characteristics and I loved it. I love the dynamic in their relationship and all the feelings they shared. I definitely recommend this book.
There is so much about Kelos that I fell in love with right away. I have a soft spot for people who have scars of the mind and body. Tempest was the perfect partner for him. She is loving, inviting and al around kind. I adored this couple 💛
Is what I thought of when I finished the book. Felt like T (abducted as a young adult) always felt she would go back to America somehow. And K never felt at home in his land. Together they helped each other recognize they were each others home.
I was quite impressed with this author and look forward to more of their works. The story had some admirable characters and you really felt the emotions relayed. I was hoping for more character development with Marsa, but perhaps she will reappear in a future story.
