WHEN DUTY, DEVOTION, AND DANGER CLASH, ONE CHOICE CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING.
Max Pearce has trouble on his hands. Not only is the FBI investigating his motorcycle club, the Desert Eagles, for counterfeiting, he has a bar to run full-time and a marriage to save. He loves his wife, Amy, but he can't seem to get his priorities straight.
Amy Seong is on the fence. Separated from Max, she's lonely and unsure if she should start dating again. Although she's met someone, Amy misses Max and can't fight her powerful connection to him. But what good is it being married to a man who never has time for his family. Maybe that's why their teenage son, Owen, has been extra moody lately.
With a life changing parole hearing looming and Owen's new interest in girls and riding ATVs leaving her frazzled, Amy has to figure out her next step. And with his club under fire, the feds breathing down his neck, and his family in jeopardy, Max needs to get his priorities straight, or he'll lose everything he cares about, including the woman he loves.
Max's club family and real family are at risk, but there's one thing he can do to change all that. Will he take the right step for all their sakes?
Alex is a California native who currently resides in the Bay Area. She has loved romance for as long as she could remember, from watching Titanic as young girl to True Blood as a teenager to Say Yes to the Dress as an Adult. After years of reading romance, she finally decided to try her hand at writing stories with characters that reflect the diverse world we inhabit.
Outside of writing, Alex enjoys listening to girlboss podcasts while doing her makeup, reading comic books (DC girl but loves The Punisher), stalking Beyoncé’s every move, and watching The Golden Girls with a glass of wine. She enjoys talking to her readers and anyone with a great sense of humor, so feel free to drop her a note anytime!
Although the plot wasn't as in your face gory as the first book, already you can see the honing of her craft from the author. The things that irked me in the first book weren't quite as much in this one, allowing the characters and plot to shine more. Look forward to seeing what she comes up with next.
Max can't seem to get things together in his personal life, and his wife, Amy, has left. She's done with coming in last to everything else that he feels he has to do so they're separated. I did chuckle when she caught him at a strip club for business (yes it really was business) but she came in at the worst possible moment & took care of the stripper (my hero). Yeah, she's that kind of woman which delighted me to no end. Throughout the book, they seemed to keep circling around the big fact of why she's left but nothing was ever really done on his end to fix it so it got repetitive for me after a bit. Yeah, they went to marriage counseling but he just couldn't stop putting her last, and while I totally understood her upset, she was just, I don't know what I'm trying to say, too volatile maybe?! (I did have her back though so yeah I'm complicated). Anyway, Max has the FBI after his club, so now his family is in jeopardy but will he actually put them first this time?! You'll have to hit those one click buttons to find out! I'm not going to lie, I'm very intrigued to read more by this author in the future & HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
A really good addition to the series, and a well written story. I enjoyed the first and this second one was at a very different pace. I like to see an author thrive and I think Miss Ayers has an incredible journey ahead of her if this is the quality of books we can expect in the future! I was glued to my seat reading this book. It was written in such a way that you can understand athese characters and feel what this couple is and has gone through. It had obstacles that were almost overwhelming to the point of pain but it with it delving into such emotional times this author has enraptured us to an incredibly sexy wonderful ride. It just makes us love her way of making us escape yet wrench's us into the story and it is such a wonderful feeling! She has the ability to create a story that is thought provoking and savage but in a very beautiful naughty way. Grab this series! It is only getting better!
This is the 2nd book in this amazing series and as I have stated before, this is definitely an author to look out for in the future! This is Max and Amy’s story. These two are married but have drifted apart, as Max is busy trying to save his club who are under investigation from the FBI, as well as running a bar full time, and he never seems to have the time for his family. Amy is lonely as well as dealing with a teenage son who is playing up, and although she and Max are separated, she loves him and is torn about moving on without him. Will Max get his priorities straight before he loses everything dear to him? This is a well written tale which is filled with challenges, emotions, danger, duty, devotion, trust, loyalty, family, and love. I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend.
Contingent by Alexandra Ayers is the second book in the desert eagles motor cycle club series. Max is the President of the MC. He is an awesome guy that raised his nephew but now has his own family. Max struggles with prioritizing his everyday life. He has to manage the club, a bar, be a father, and a husband.
Amy is a strong woman. She is a mother, wife and owner of a tattoo salon. She wants love and commitment from her husband who can't seem to understand his family needs more than five minutes at a time.
This estranged couple have been fighting the loosing battle of making a relationship work in todays world. Yet it seems one thing after another just keeps tumbling down and pulling them further and further apart.
I really enjoyed this 2nd addition to the Desert Eagles series. The characters are fabulous and I love how it explores the difficulties in keeping a marriage together after some time. It also is refreshing for steamy scenes between a long time married couple
What I particularly love in this series is the diversity in characters which is sorely lacking still in 2021. I may be a typical white girl but I like to read about all kinds of people. My only issue and it a personal one, is it written in 3rd person and I much prefer 1st person especially dual pov.
I loved this book! Max and Amy are beating Derek and Brie for my favorite couple in this series right now.
Max and Amy are a couple lost at sea. Their inner and outer turmoil is tearing them apart. Instead of drifting closer together to get through they are farther apart than ever before.
Loyalty and trust are in question. Any feels last place in his life and I can understand that. They are both at fault however for where they are.
They have to do a lot of work to fix their happy. I loved this book from start to finish!
These are short MC reads. Max is the Prez and Amy is his wife and o'lady and they have a 13 year old son Owen. Now Max and Amy we dove straight into their marriage.
They are currently separated and Max is fighting for her. Amy is pushing him away and going on a date with another man.
WAIT WAIT WAIT we learn why she is doing this cause I was getting annoyed with Amy not working with Max to fix their marriage. Now I understand were she is coming from and we learn what happened to her sister... Her sister story is heart breaking
3.5 not enough action and suspense for me personally.
I could stomach this book alot better than the first, but that doesn't mean that this book was less gruesome. But what enjoyed the most was Max battling himself and trying to figure out what he should be doing. I laughed a few times while I was reading cause I kept thinking "most new moms have this entire battle themselves, not really knowing what to do first or even next" Great story with a story about a couple really trying to find themselves.
Wow wow wow wow wow just like book one this was hard to stop reading and put down was a new authour also for me and I'm an avid MC genre fan and this just ticks all the boxes !!
