For fans of Hallmark holiday movies!

Romance isn’t something that can be packaged up in a neat little box with a sparkly red bow and given as a gift. It doesn’t come with a one-size-fits-all money-back guarantee. It could, however, show up driving a…a moving truck.

Kate North vowed she’d never give her heart to another man again—at least not any time soon. Finding romance this holiday season wasn’t something on the top of her wish list. Being burned once by someone she gave her heart to had taught her a valuable lesson—men could be …dogs!?!

So why then, after several run-ins with her sexy new neighbor, Ben, has she suddenly started to question whether she’s ready to take on another relationship? It doesn’t help that Ben seems to show up when she least expects him to… but not when she actually needs him.

Ben and his dog, Cooper, prove to be a challenge for Kate in more ways than one. Dealing with his own personal loss, Ben may be just what she needs to overcome her vendetta against falling in love again. In fact, they may be perfect for each other.

Find out how two neighbors overcome their own heartache and one lucky dog turns out to be more than just man’s best friend in this fun holiday romance.

This is a cute holiday read with Kate and Ben both dealing with their own pain and loss. After several misunderstandings they form a neighborly friendship which develops into deeper feelings. It's a short fast paced story with a bit of drama and humor and is an enjoyable read however I felt it ended too abruptly and would have been an even better read if it had a more complete story.

Cooper: A Holiday Romance by Amy Stephens
Published: November 15, 2015, second edition 2020
Kindle Edition
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Amy Cooper is a romance writer who enjoys watching sports at home, curled up with her kitties. She published her first book in 2014 and has big dreams of making writing her full-time job. She writes contemporary romance books that are sure to bring a smile to her readers' faces.

“Then she heard a dog bark.”

Kate is working on putting herself and her life back together after getting divorced. Her ex-husband should have been the love of her life, but instead, he ended up break her heart. As Kate slowly starts putting her life back in order, a disruption arrives in the form of a handsome new neighbor. Will this be her second chance at love?

This was a charming romance story. Ben and Kate have more in common than they realize at first, and despite getting off to several rocky starts, they build a friendship.

As Kate and Ben build their friendship, she realizes she could see herself falling in love with this blue eyes author and his sweet pup, Cooper.

After a scary accident that could have been deadly, everything changes between Kate and Ben. She realizes she is comfortable with him. She finds herself missing him when they aren’t together, and she has found a particular fondness for Cooper.

As they spend more time together, their feelings only intensify. Kate finally gets the nerve up to ask Ben to be her date to her best friend's wedding, and the rest is history.

This is the first book I’ve read by Amy Stephens. Honestly, I chose this title because there was a dog on the cover. I enjoyed this story. A simple, sweet, pure love story.

I found the characters well developed and the plot charming. Kate and Ben have both been through the wringer when it comes to love, and I think it is lovely that they find their second chance within each other. And Cooper makes their relationship perfect.

I enjoyed the build with this story, and as great as steamy scenes can be, it was refreshing to have a romance built solely on genuine feelings and not physical touch.

This is a very cheery, upbeat, festive romance. It’s a quick read, and if you are a dog person, I strongly suggest giving this book a read.

Mercy, That’s a Lot of Telling!

Wow, that had to be one of the longest information dumps I've seen in a novella! It took up the entire first chapter and started into the next. I couldn't quite believe it kept going on and on. Authors of novellas seem to be particularly in love with the info dump, though no reader likes being assailed with so much backstory. Artful authors can weave it in so it's less of a dump, with less telling and more showing... and just getting to the action of the story itself, showing us what we need to know so we’re clear about what’s going on. I was wondering when the author would actually get to the meet-cute and the romance! This extended info dump also had detailed the heroine's ex-husband's infidelity... more detail than I wanted and more than was necessary to tell the story. I found those particular paragraphs especially distasteful in a holiday story, as it seems somewhat disrespectful to the reason for the season. Because of these issues, which overwhelmed the story, I do not feel like I can recommend this book.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Kate was an awful main character. She was supposed to be an adult - even married & divorced yet she continuously acted like an immature teenager. It was painful to read about how she reacted to Ben & his actions. Ben should have run screaming from the nut case.

It was a short story so the author could have even had a friend proof read the book before publishing.
Her friend's wedding was on Christmas Eve the ~4 pages later it was a New Year's Eve wedding - seriously?!? And then the author just seemed to get tired of writing about these characters and abruptly ended the book. I'd recommend passing on this holiday book.

Ben and Kate become next door neighbors, with bad experiences galore, even in a bookstore. Slowly, situations start to improve, with a purchase of a Christmas tree, and get steadily better from there. He still ends up rescuing her from some intriguing situations with the help of Cooper, his dog. Their hearts are both starting to open up to a possible future together. Loved the strewn adult toys all over the yard and the tree stuck in her car. She sure had a lot of interesting moments in her life. Loved the storyline and the banter. Great quick read for a quiet afternoon.

This was a super sweet book about a woman named Kate who is restarting her life after a divorce. Her relationship with her new neighbor Ben starts off rough and gets worse (the scene where she meets his dog is HILARIOUS!). Eventually they find friendship with each and maybe there will be more. This was a sweet story and an enjoyable book to read.

This book was a great read. I really enjoyed it. It was well written. When Kate moved in her new home, she had no idea her life would turn out the way it did. Thanks to her neighbors dog, Cooper her life changed for the best.

This is the 1st book I've read written by Amy Stephens; she has done a great job at writing a good short story; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

I loved the characters.

Abrupt Ending

It wouldn’t matter how good a story was if the ending was sudden and abrupt which was the case here.
Add that to a few cringe worthy moments, and I must say that I was not a fan. I thought the story had potential, but unfortunately, it fell flat for me.

Cute, but I expected more; I found it lacked a further development of the story. The book gave me the impression of that I was reading ABOUT a story rather than the story itself. And the dog appears very little (I mean, the book's title is after him!) . Also,I'd like to have seen an epilogue. Overall, nice.
