Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union are two binding texts that set out those rights that must be respected both by the European Union and the Member States when implementing EU law, providing a legal support for the respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights in Europe.
Equality is the public recognition, effectively expressed in institutions and manners, of the principle that an equal degree of attention is due to the needs of all human beings. We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men and women are created equal.
