A kidnapped friend. A mission of grave importance. The Alliance Institute is in full swing, with Jules assisting Magnus as students arrive from across the galaxy. After Dean’s discovery that someone close to him has been abducted, he sets out in search of Regnig. The library has been ransacked, and Suma inadvertently finds what the Academy librarian has been digging his beak into. When they gain a trail, Dean learns he may not have known Regnig as well as he’d thought. New lies are as harmful as old ones. New Lies continues the sweeping Survivors series, with Dean Parker and his daughter at the helm.
As many reviewers have already said, there is too many books to review each one, but after listening or reading 16 books I thought it was time.
This series is awesome, well-written & engaging.
First off there are so many well-developed characters, they grow into their roles and into their own story lines so well.
Second, each book has a monster of the week issue, sometimes two, BUT older plots and events are weaved in throughout the series, so you really feel like this universe exists.
Lastly, the books are fun, exciting and are more than just zap-zap science fiction. These are good well-rounded stories.
If you like Stargate & Star-Trek, series that have some battles, but are driven by characters, exploration and societal evolution than you will enjoy these. Especially if you enjoy SG-1 as a series, it in my opinion has a lot of similarities in a good way. Is there some farfetched notions, science that isn't fully explained sure, but if you are looking for very hard sci-fi than this is not it. Again, like the series I mentioned, they explain the science, but it doesn't go to deep, and it is not factual, it helps push the story along.
I love this series. From the first book it has grabbed me and not let go. I'm totally involved with the characters, the worlds, the stories, the details of these beings that inhabit these worlds Nathan Hystedt has created. Wow what a creative mind! Only one con I can think of. The shift from storyline to storyline each section got confusing without some kind of lead-in of time passed and/or location. Especially with two Deans. One section Magnus is with Jules on the Outpost then he's with Dean and Mary at the Institute. It got me confused.Otherwise the writing is top-notch. Good grammar and syntax and I think I only saw one or two typos. I've read all of his other books too and can say the same about top-notch writing. Definitely professional. Keep them coming. He is one author I will make purchases of pre-orders instead of waiting for the Kindle Unlimited release.
New starships with the latest tech were being built and a new training center is turning out crew to fly them. The new vessels were warships to defend the Alliance from enemies foreign and domestic. On the maiden voyage of the first ship off the line, with Jules on command, the first wormhole generated opened in the wrong place and it was a trap! Jules and crew barely escaped, but one visitor from the Alliance's newest member was captured.
With the usual mayhem, Dean Parker is caught in a web of misfortune with nothing less than the Alliance at risk! The usual fantastic characters weave their way through traps, fights, near death and battles. The storyline is as twisty and amazing as ever, telling the tales of the Survivors. I love this series! I love the characters! I love the ongoing story! This is a great read!
I'm not going to review each and every of the 18, so far, books in this series because it would be exhausting. Suffice it to say, as I just this morning told my son, to have the talent to write a series of 18 books (so far) and each and every book be as engaging, thrilling and be able to pull a reader right into the story instead of being a spectator to it is so rare and his books do that. From book 1 to the current book 18. Also, these are not novellas or short stories. Each in this series is a full on NOVEL. I've been opened to genres I never thought I'd be interested in before and it's writers like Nathan Hystad that make that possible .... that make reading ..... an important part of my life.
I started with book 1, not realizing I was getting into a 17-book series, but as soon as I finished one, I had to read the next! The characters are so well-defined that I feel I know them personally. The action is almost non-stop. Each book brings up a new problem, but some carry over and blow up again. Thank goodness the books are available on Kindle Unlimited or I'd be broke!
Nathan Hystad has another hit on his hands. Jules is trying to find her way with the loss of her Deity powers as she also looks to find the moles in the Institiute and needing to save Malir. Meanwhile Dean has to save Regnig who has been abducted. Plus both of them have heard the tales of Ovalax and the Sect of Memories and are coming at this from opposite sides. Nathan manages to bring all this together in such a wonderful way. Many thanks Nathan. You make this series such a joy to read.
I throughly enjoyed the first of many of the books until the author took the powers away from Jules. The books where she had no powers were very boring. So boring I couldn’t read through just skipped. I think it was a mistake to take her powers away. I hope the final book is better
New Lies (The Survivors Book Sixteen) is another winner.
The stories in each book of this series are fresh and exciting, so I see no end in sight even after sixteen installments.
The characters continue to grow, and the length of the series allows them to age through life and we get to experience the changes in them over time. This is one of my favourite series.
Yet another brilliant read. The characters are becoming more intricate and growing. Expecting more from Jules with the return of her powers. Not discounting young Hugo either, possibilities there. Can see this saga contnuing for many more books.
This is the 16th book in the Saga of Dean Parker, the once in a millennium "recaster" who is saving the galaxy from evil forces that threaten it. This time Dean, his friends, and his family are on a mission to simultaneously rescue a kidnapped friend and defeat an eons old monster that eats memories.
I have the box set of this series and book 17 continues the multiple adventures of Dean Parker and his daughter Jules. There are plenty of other characters, all fitting well into the story. I like the plots, the twists and turns and the mystery.
It's well-written and fast-paced with plenty of action, thoughts and feelings.
Another awesome book in the Dean Parker series. So sad when the book ends want more. I already have my calendar marked for the next book. Highly recommend this series.
San other great adventure with Dean Parker and Jues seeking a kidnapped Regnig through different approaches. Past secrets are revealed hints of new adventures.
I find it hard to believe that I have read sixteen of the Survivors books. It seems like like just was reading about Dean Parker the accountant. These a truly exciting and fascinating books to read.
This has been one of the most engrossing set of books to date . The characters jump out of the pages as well as the different worlds with their very different inhabitants. You can’t go wrong if you are a lover of space novels!
What a great book and enjoyed the plotting. It was great to see the different story lines with Jules, Dean and Magnus in one problem while Dean and Sergio go after finding Regnig.
This series is very entertaining and engrossing. However there are some inconsistencies. What happened to the New Spero battle fleet that the first Magnus led in the second or third book? It just disappeared.
Boy how time flies. Jules now a regular human girl is being groomed to be a captain at the alliances new security force recruitment center along with Dean while her dad Dean and Sergio have been gone for months trying to locate Regnig. Regnig was kidnapped and forced to work with the enemy, Wibox of a new alliance member, whose heir to the thrown was also taken by the Wibox. Who will be the hero, Jules or Dean Parker?
