Cinderella was never this tough...

Cara has no last name. Known on the streets as Girl, she lives a loner life, surviving by picking pockets and providing intel to gang members in the Nightclub District. Slowing down is never an option, until a sexy, soul mate-worthy woman distracts her, and Cara questions her life choices. The moment is quashed when life gut-punches her back to the streets.

Two less-than-desirable sisters invade her turf and remind her of a past best forgotten. More of her past seeps into her present and brings to light the mounting problems for people like her in the lower class district. Cara is forced to take action when it’s apparent she is the only one with the street smarts and skills to bring justice to the community.

One big heist could solve everything. With her sights set on the Mayor’s Masquerade Ball, Cara has no idea her biggest problem still awaits her. The Mayor’s charismatic son, Caden Walsh, who has an appetite for risk, extravagance, and women. Again, a chance at love and her own safety are put in jeopardy. Can Cara escape the ballroom before time runs out?

I've read several books written by Emily Bourne; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This is the third book in the Happily After When Series; this is the rewriting of Cinderella fairytale about Cara and her two sisters.

I received a free copy of this book via booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.

Where to even begin? Cara is a fantastic continuation to the series. I loved reading about this new character and following her journey. One of my favorite parts about this series is that when the book is over, that character's journey is not. We still get Jazz's point of view and get to see more about her and Adrian's relationship.
I feel so bad for Cara. The sad thing about Christians and the LGBT community is that Christians try to scare and in Cara's case "beat the gay" out of them when they should be showing love and not scaring people.
Pippi and Cara make such a good dynamic, I loved reading the scenes they had together. The end fight scene had my emotions whirling.
Caden is someone who I cannot stand and his role as the villain is very clear. I have questions that I cannot wait to have answered in further books.
This was definitely my favorite in the series so far!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Cara was so fun to read about, I love her character; she's definitely one of my favs! And the 'Cinderella' nods were fun to catch.
She takes us through parts of the city and the worldbuilding world we haven't seen yet, adding some more layers to this series. I loved seeing things through her eyes, and getting her thoughts on things.
Pippa is an absolute doll, I love her and can't wait to see her move mountains. I hope to see them together in the next book.
I don't know why I thought Caden was misunderstood or going to have a redemption arc. *Cue me hysterically laughing*
In 'Cara' we still get other characters' stories and POVs, and everything is woven so well together.
The ending in this one is !!! Thanks a lot Emily lol I can't wait for the next one! I'll just be here, waiting in suspense...

Gah! I can't gush enough about Cara. I'm a huge fan of the other two books in the Happily After When Series, but I'm obsessed with this one. It carried through the characters from Jazz and Aria, but still reads perfectly as it's own book! Cara is a survivor, living on the streets, and a brilliant pick-pocket. She steals from the rich, spoiled 20-somethings of Maiden City with finesse and style. It's a Cinderella re-telling though, again, like the two books before this, Emily writes them as her own action-packed thrill rides that are completely unique. It's only when you really stop to think about it that you realize the brilliant parallels to the original fairytales. If you're looking for a fun, heist-y, read, Cara is perfect for you!

So action packed. I enjoyed the other book in this series, and this one took the story to a higher level. Left the series wide open for a bigger series arc. And what a cliff hanger!! Can I have the next book now, please?
