Ambi who was once relaxing on his chair thinks about his childhood and decides to visit his good old days of childhood.

The book opens the window of Ambi's childhood and takes us through what he has gone through, how things changed for him, and how wonderful those days were.

While reading this book, I kinda remember my childhood. A golden era when there were no Whatsapp, Internet, Instagram, email, or messages. Just think when were you close to your friends? When there was no internet or now?

This book is a light read with the deepest meaning hidden in its chapters. The character of Ambi is surely worth falling in love with and his childhood days will make you cry at times.

I loved the concept of the book and the writing style of the author is quite amazing. I would recommend this book to everyone.

The book has 20 small chapters, a prologue, and an epilogue. This book is a delightful read for several reasons. First, the language of the book and the story is straightforward. That makes it an uncomplicated and quick read. Second I loved the book's theme- Talking about our roots, our culture, our traditions, and our family values. I was fortunate enough to have experienced village life due to my grandparents living in the village for a few years after my birth. But those who could not experience the slice of that life are unlucky, I would say. There are a natural charm and beauty to that life that leaves you feeling content, peaceful and happy. This book will take you there.
Ambi’s portrayal of the ideal son was apt. Growing up, he helped his parents, mother in the housework, and his father in business. He respected the elders and his gurus and even mute animals. He was helpful; he was humble and a family man through and through.
My parents always discussed the values they were brought up with-like; a penny saved is a penny earned. This book serves as a reminder of all these important but now ignored age-old values of our Indian culture system. The visual tour of all the hundreds of temples in south India will leave you feeling you have to visit them. And on a lighter note, this book had me salivating throughout with the description of various south Indian dishes and delicacies.

It is a simple and Beautiful read with a deep meaning. The story moves into the memories and experience of his life. The illustrations in between are such a bonus.
A cute cover with an elegant writing style. It is a book that covers our everything in a great way. The book Beautifully describes the struggles and life and we can absolutely relate to it when we look deeply.
Totally liked it and would definitely recommend. A sweet and light read that can be picked up anytime.

🌸The boy called Ambi', as simply the name is so is the book but with a deep lesson for life, this book is the journey of a boy whose name is Ambi, who is raised in a small village of South-India in a joint family, the story revolves around Ambi, how different events in life affected his character, lifestyle, emotions, and faith.
🌸The best thing about this book which I really loved was its approach which conveys the message that 'positive approach will always attract positivity', it offers a nostalgic trip to its readers, such a serene and peaceful reading it is, every incident in the book hold a lesson, adding more beautiful thing about this book is the use of Tamil language, it was really interesting to read its translation, and it seriously felt like I was also going to every trip Ambi went, the beauty of South India, its temple's were so perfect, the faith and devotion Ambi hold for his 'Protector' was really intriguing and if we observe carefully we can ourself experience those in our life.

South India has always fascinated me. I have some special friends from there & this book brought back all the beautiful memories. From places to food to traditions...Everything.
If you are from India am sure you will dive back into your childhood memories, & if not you will get to know a lot about Indian culture.

And do you remember the traditions & customs followed by your family during special occasions like Diwali (a festival celebrated in India)?

This is a beautiful book giving you the nostalgia vibes along with it. The book is based on the boy named Ambi. Well, he is all grown up now but on fine day he decides to go through his memory lane. He refreshes all the beautiful moments from the time back then. His evolution from a boy to an adult is captured well in this book.
Basically the plot is based on South India, so you won't be getting bore. Instead these reminded me of the enjoyable moments I had before electronic gadgets came and overpowered our life. A generation without gadgets and the nostalgia vibes of this book is remarkable.
The book is completely based on the Indian society and it's culture. I love the fact that the authors have successfully captured each and every emotion that we the 90s kids hold in. We and our earlier generations have seen the society changing along with the changes of technology. The world we had in childhood is totally different from the world we live in currently. The author has penned down the essence of South India very beautifully. The little details added while describing the memories by the protagonist is beautiful.
The words selection is very good, keeping it a light and enjoyable read. The language used is lucid. The narration is good.

Personally, when I get the book to read it, I don’t want to read it because of the cover ( I don’t like the cover). But the story is ohhhhhh……. The book has 20 small chapters, a prologue, and an epilogue. This book is a delightful read for several reasons. First, the language of the book and the story is straightforward.
The story is about Ambi, reminiscing his childhood with an atmospheric set of nostalgic times. All the kinds of stuff like his good and bad times, the hard time he faced, the fun he had with his siblings, and all the knowledge he gained from different people and places. In short his whole journey of life. If you want to know how South Indian, you have to read this book.
Talking about the character of Ambi is okay-ok. Firstly when I just started reading it was ordinary and yet extraordinary at the same time. So, I am a little bit confused about it. I should re-read it to clear it.
This book gives a very important lesson of life, that No matter how far you go, never forget where you came from. Never forget your roots, because your growth can always be seen through your roots.
The language used in this book is suitable for beginners. The authors have used some Tamil words and sentences in each chapter along with their meanings. The book is only around 120 pages and it can be easily finished in one sitting.

The boy called Ambi by Shrividhya Venkatesan is basically about a middle class South Indian boy called Ambi, here the beautiful memories of Ambi's are described in very beautiful way with using very simple language.
Specially the childhood memories, we all have the nostalgia of childhood ..it's like those were the days ..90s kids can relate with Ambi's childhood very easily. Author has described every up's and down's of Ambi's life.
One thing about Ambi's character I liked the most is that he wants to become like his father, he was very much inspired by his father's hardworking and the way of human kind he was . When Karapu Maadu was bitten by cobra due to which it died, this moment was really emotional for Ambi that part was my favourite part. Author has described that part very beautifully that how a relationship between an animal and a human being that how a sudden death of a pet can make his owner motionless. In this book the author has described very different types of problems that villagers usually face like the author has told how someone had done black magic in Ambi's house. Basically this book is about how a simple and middle class boy from a village take steps to support his family and what kind of new challenges he faced in this journey.
Overall the boy called Ambi was a simple and very lovely story, author has used very lucid language and explain every incident very clearly . Author has used some tamil lines also where you can learn some tamil too. Author had put some pictures too which is really helpful to connect with the story.

I had no expectations when I picked this book up. If you ask me why I picked this book up without having any expectations, then my answer to you is I really liked the book's cover page. The title is also too intriguing to me, which made me pick this book up. I can't take myself off the cover. I should really appreciate the cover designers for this beautiful cover page, which added another attractive element to his book. Then I would just thank both the authors for writing this simple yet elegant book, which made me feel so optimistic for reading it.

This book is about our protagonist and Ambi, and how he used to live in his childhood days, and then the story continues till he is 60 years old. The book takes us through his journey from a young age to old age and what had really happened in Ambi's life to write a book solely based on his character. The answer to it is he had some spiritual encounters and how he made everything possible within his family. Having a low income to traveling to all the spiritual places in India with his family showed that he made even the income issue possible. Life is a rollercoaster of emotions in between this his father passed away, but he still got rid of that pain somehow moved on.

They got married to Mangalambika and had given birth to two daughters named Bhagavathy and Narayani. This book made me feel positive, and I really liked the way the writing is simple. Moreover, I really connected with the book because Ambi is from Tamil Nadu. In the book, we can read some Tamil words too, which helped in my Tamil learning.
I am so freaking happy. It one of those few books where I haven't been bored about doing any other tasks, but I just want to read and read more.
Yes, I would recommend this to all. If you are juggling academic books and these babies. Where you can't read bulky booksInstead, you can read some soft and cozy reads like this!

I could see myself through Ambi, in a lot situations, many of them are relatable, Ambi is for sure a person to be inspired from. In the book, the author has told about the life of a boy named Ambi of South India. In this, Ambi is told to remember his past life, some of which were memories of his childhood and some of his youth. At the same time, he also tells about some places, some of which were also temples and spiritual places, which the author has described very accurately. In this, the author has also used Tamil words in a very good way which further indicates the culture of South India.
Some memories of Ambi are quite indifferent, but still, they have positive energy.

South India, a place where I always wants to visit in person but am not able to. Thanx to the books I'm reading, for they take me to the land of South India.

"THE BOY CALLED AMBI: Time Travel to Nostalgic Times" is one such book which would take us to South India. The reason for me to pick up this book was it's title. The title is interesting and so is the book's plot. The plot of the book revolves around a boy, Ambi. The book let's the readers travel into his childhood and feel the Nostalgia in it. Later, Ambi turns into an adult and becomes a responsible citizen of the country.

My fav part about this book was the journey to South India and knowing about their culture and tradition. It teaches us new things, new language, new Culture and different tradition. The story is straightforward. It is easy to read and understand. Vocabulary used is also easy. Perfectly narrated, the book shows the good writing style of the author.

The story revolves around Ambi and his family. Ambi, who helps everyone around him. He is a theist so he often visits sacred places. While he traveling to new places or temples or shops, the readers can connect themselves with Ambi. Most of the incidents mentioned in this book were familiar but still while reading it makes the readers to dive more into the story because most of the tale was auspicious and pragmatic in those days. I loved this book. Honestly, I had been searching for some nostalgic stories and this one was perfect for my wish. I loved the cover page too it was eye-catchy. If you are a beginner or searching for some nostalgic tale then definitely this book is for you. The language was simple and easy to read and understand. You can finish it in one go. This is the first book for the author. So, way to go, and I am waiting to read your upcoming books.

My Take:
2020 favorites. A very beautifully written story. A story that everyone connects to. A narration that has something for everyone. Such beautiful narration about simple things in life and the experiences every South Indian or otherwise would connect to.
The experiences of Ambi are somethings we all have too experienced, yet are unable to express in right words. The authors have given words to our thoughts. The simple life then is written about so beautifully and lively that we crave to go back in time and experience them again. The traditions and the festival rituals are written with such finesse that I felt like watching them live and transported back to childhood when we too used to follow these rituals as a child.
But with changes and times sadly most of the rituals are depleting. Sad truth of life. But would urge the next generation to read and at least experience via stories how being simple was easy and best. The delicacies and the emotions used for explaining them makes it more endearing.
Strongly recommended to all. Pick this simple book and enjoy the life story and best moments of Ambi. It's about a man who has seen the good and the bad taken the good experiences and learnt from bad ones and lived life happily.

"Life is a journey"
I think for me, this book was a very peaceful read. A very short read like this can actually put my mind at ease after a long and tiring week. This story of this boy Ambi, the journey of Ambi, everything is written in a very different manner. Not many books are like this. The style of the writing of the authors are slightly different yet beautiful.
Tamilnadu is a very famous state of South India where religion is followed very respectfully. The values of each and every aspects of life is important here. The boy called Ambi is such a book which shows us the simplicity of the old culture, habits, our free time without technology, the purity of relationships, the innocence of little children and the utmost respect towards divinity. Ambi was a small boy from a joint family and faced a lot of normal issues from his childhood but he had a knack for spiritual understandings and he had a power to control the divinity. He led a normal life but with lots of determination he made himself.
When I say that life is a journey I literally reflect on Ambi's life because there's nothing very uncommon or unique or something very big but the simplicity of a normal life which makes this book far better than any other books.
The language of this book is easy. There are many Tamil words which I learnt while reading this but coping up with the sudden appearance of tamil words made me slow at reading but it's a good effort to make the readers understand better.
This is a very good book according to me and a unique one.

Author has beautifully portrayed his childhood and its scenario long back.It in turn takes us back to the memory lane, which we treasure with pleasure. I personally felt happy and found myself smiling at places which reminded me of my childhood.
The book inspires us of the struggles and more importantly how to overcome them with lot of perseverance and determination. Ambi is truly a role model I should say. While reading I could easily relate myself with the stories and our golden days back then. I definitely recommend this read for a sweet time travel to those golden days. Well done.

The Boy Called Ambi by Gayathri and Srividhya Venkatesan is a trip down the memory lane to the simpler times. Sailing through the memories of childhood and past when life was simple and small things used to bring happiness, is the bestest feeling in the world and Ambi found himself in the middle of the nostalgic lane.
The story shows the journey of Ambi from his childhood, teenager, marriage, kids and family and his faith and belief, his journey from south and north and adventure throughout his life. Ambi is a simple, kind and a religious boy. Coming from a big family Ambi always was close to her mother and her beliefs and all the miracles he has seen and lived throughout his life has made her beliefs stronger. How this small yet significant incident in his life has shaped him in a better man.
The language is pretty simple to understand even though there are some conversation in his mother tongue (south), author has promptly given a translation for it, so it doesn't break the flow of the story in searching the meaning of the word or sentences. There are 20 small chapters and each chapter has a different story and a title apt for it and it shows his journey from childhood to adulthood.

The beautiful pictures in each story added into the charm of the story and it took me back to my own childhood and it's various misfits. ~ The protagonist of the story Ambi, is reminiscing his childhood. All his good and bad times, the hardships he faced, the fun he had with his siblings, and all the knowledge he gained from different people and places. His journey from being a boy to a man. It is a pleasant nostalgia trip, to visit and rejoice.
~ Reading about older times? Indian history to be specific? A big yes. It was so nice and refreshing to read a simple story from a few decades back. The peaceful life and the rich culture of South India were a delight to read about.
~ The character of Ambi was ordinary and yet extraordinary at the same time. I loved how thoughtful he was for his family, always prioritizing them. His attachment and love for animals were so sweet. Also, how content he was in his simple lifestyle not wishing for any superficial luxuries was very admirable. I mean how many of us have control over our desires? We always want something or the other.
~ There several incidents mentioned about how Ambi had indirect contact with God himself or his messengers. Some people may call it superstition or may pass it off as mythology but myself being a believer of the fact that "All the stories are true", just wondered how much devotion and patience it must require to encounter something so divine in your life.
~ Almost 90% of the dialogue was in Tamil (with translation), which I found impressive that the authors used their mother tongue along with English.
~ There were illustrations of several scenes and photographs of various temples and sights. Both added to the beauty of the story and made imagining easier and clearer.
~ Lastly I'll say it was a good short and light read (wouldn't have minded if it were longer though). I'd recommend this to everyone because I think everyone will enjoy it.

This book is all about a boy named Ambi and his life experience. The author illustrates the journey of Ambi from his childhood to his older age. The book is solely based on his character; however, the storyline goes so smoothly.
Somehow this book shows that people can travel all around India on a low budget. How Ambi manage to visit many spiritual places with his family for that you have to read this book. Book is about protagonist Ambi, one gets to know protagonist's life from childhood to oldage, highs and lows of his life, his family and more. Ambi's character portrayal of the ideal son, man, human being is nice to read, his beliefs and spiritual inclination too. While narrating about Ambi author has in detail penned about lifestyle during yesteryears, traditions, values with which one lived and expected to live if born in South India during those times. Author has also taken the liberty to educate readers about different temples, their importance, different places and what they are known for, authentic dishes and delicacies associated with respective places.
Overall a nice easy read, would recommend to all.

This book is a simple and impactful read.
The story is set up in old time when people were happy and content without any worries. They were satisfied with what they had.
In this book too, the story revolves around a boy Ambi, and his childhood, family and lot more are discussed in the book. The story is so sweet and simple with easy understandable language and lucid narrative style.
