A killer from Hunter’s past is hell-bent on revenge…

When psycho killer Billy Wallace was given a life sentence for the brutal killings of three retired detectives and the attempted murder of Detective Sergeant Hunter Kerr’s father, eighteen months ago, Hunter thought that the gangland thug’s reign of terror was over.

But then, during a hospital visit from prison Billy escapes, vowing to eliminate both Hunter and his father.

Forced into hiding with his family, on the island of Sark, Hunter thinks he has escaped Billy’s clutches.

Until a series of mysterious events on the island leads him to believe that Billy has found their safe house.

Can Hunter capture Billy before he strikes again? Will he put Billy behind bars once and for all?

Or will Billy track down Hunter first…?

Following retirement, after thirty-two years as a police officer, working mainly as a detective, Michael returned to the deadly business of murder, as a writer. His past work brought him very close to some nasty characters, including psychopaths, and gruesome cases and he draws on that experience to craft his novels: There is nothing gentle about Michael’s stories.

His landmark novel ‘Heart of the Demon’, published in 2012, introduced Detective Sergeant Hunter Kerr. He has since written eight novels featuring him. He also released the first of his DS Scarlett Macey books in 2016.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Sapere Books for a review copy of Hunted, the sixth novel to feature Yorkshire based DS Hunter Kerr.

When multiple murderer Billy Wallace escapes from prison he is determined to wreak revenge on the man he blames for his incarceration, Hunter Kerr’s father, Jock. After a couple of unsettling incidents Hunter and his family decide to take a holiday on the island of Sark until Wallace is captured, but it’s maybe not as safe as Hunter thinks it will be.

I enjoyed Hunted which is a welcome addition to the series. I read the first five novels in the series years ago and always kept an eye out for a new one, so I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to read Hunted. It is slightly different to its predecessors in that the Kerr family are the victims rather than being on the offensive, but it is still very readable with that indefinable something that keeps the reader turning the pages. I must admit that I guessed one element of the plot early on but it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the read. I found the game of cat and mouse fascinating with Hunter never knowing what was coming next, especially as it’s mostly surprises for the reader.

I think the author got the character of Billy Wallace exactly right. Cunning in his way, but not overly smart, as he is reliant on psychopathic violence and the same tried and trusted methods. His fanatical devotion to his mission, getting revenge on Jock Kerr, regardless of the cost to himself or others is very believable.

Hunter is Hunter, smart and caring with a good team to back him up. I like the camaraderie and trust in the team and welcome the lack of in-fighting which seems such a feature in police procedurals.

Hunted is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

This is another good read from Michael Fowler. Hunter Kerr and his family are being hunted by a serial killer and are hiding out on the island of Sark in the Channel isles. There is a good steady pace and plenty thrills in the book as well as interesting characters. It is well written and, I think, the best in the series so far. I would recommend it to crime thriller lovers. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

Really disappointing. I’ve read his other stories, they’re not great works of literature but they were a decent entertaining read, but this one was so laboured. Too much detail trying to disguise a paper thin plot

What a cliff hanger

Been a while since I read the last Hunter Kerr book but I was not disappointed. The plot moved with pace. Will be reading Unsolved soon
