“Whatever you do, always give 100% – unless you’re donating blood.”
My new role is not to be taken lightly, but I don’t even know where the hell to start.
I have to learn to be vulnerable enough to admit when I need help from those that I trust.
But what happens when you place your trust in the wrong person?
One wrong decision on my part, could change the realms forever.
I wasn’t ready for this, but I’ll be damned if I don’t give it my all. There have been too many sacrifices and lives lost, so that I could get to this point.
Their deaths will not be in vain.
We will be victorious.
*** Author Note: Devastation is a reverse harem novel that touches on some dark themes such as: PTSD and flashbacks of trauma and abuse, torture, and rape, which may be triggering for some readers. This book has a 18+ warning and is intended for mature audiences. Book three in the Darkness Rising series which will not end in a cliffhanger.
R.L. Caulder is a USA Today bestselling author who lives in her writing cave away from the intense heat of the Florida sun with her husband and furry writing assistants, MeowMeow and Winrey. Life is never boring for R.L., who has hundreds of imaginary friends constantly vying for her attention and begging for their stories to be told.

Devastation by R.L. Caulder is the third and final book in this trilogy. It picks up where book two ended with a bit of rehash for a quick reminder of events. This was quite a fitting conclusion to not just the series, but to Lana and her mates' story. There are so many things that unfold in this book, as we are looming towards the battle with Erebus, new facts and mini-quests come about that will help Lana and her men in the end. This book is an action-packed/fast-paced story that will hold your attention from the get-go.
Lana has gone through so much character growth and development since book one and I really will miss her and her wit. Her confidence, not just in herself, but also in her relationships with her mates is really prevalent in this book. They all have been on an emotional journey in this trilogy, some have suffered more than others but the way they all team up and deal with it together is inspiring.
Once again, the author paints all the realms really clearly, as well as the characters in them. You can really get a feel for how things look and work in each place. The writing is really fluid and is very easy to read. There is a realness to the story and that realness is what sells this book. Yes, it's a work of fiction but you can actually forget that detail and just lose yourself in the story. I loved these books and the twists that were inserted into the story really kept you wanting more. It does end very well and your immediate questions are all answered.
I didn’t realize this was the last book in the series (trilogy, I guess LOL!), and I was sad to realize it was the last. I do really like, though, that this author didn’t drag out the storyline just to have more books. Anyway, this series-ender was just as good, if not better, than the previous two books. Lana and her men went through so much growth as people that this is almost more about how life can change you and make you grow than about love and suspense. However, don’t get me wrong; there is still plenty of romance, steam, mystery, and suspense to satisfy those urges. This is a great conclusion, and I’ll definitely read more by this author. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I devoured all 3 of this series in about 3 days, I kid you not!! This last book brought action, answers, grief, loss, love and growth.
I am I'm awe of Lana and who she became!! The growth in her was nothing short of astronomical. She grew into her role, she guided and cared about more then just her. She became the strength and hope of her family with the guys and a beacon of hope and justice to the realms.... she utterly deserved her title.
I was a massive fan of the growth, development and personal battles faced by Zedd, Ash, Hale, Luke and Leo. They began their journey as boys and finished as men. They grew in personal strength, by experience, knowledge and belief. I loved who they became and how their family unit developed.
We were introduced to so many new awesome people. We got back storied to them and also Lana's previous life, this made for such an interesting dynamic during the epicness that transpired. You will love these new individuals so much, even the ones you hate!!
This book will break you, challenge you, make you laugh and despair, it will make you hope, make you bleed in agony along the way but IT IS WORTH IT!!
I could not have asked for a better conclusion to Lana and her men’s story! This book was everything I had hoped it would be and so much more! R.L. Caulder brought the action, love, loss, pain, lust and everything in between. The bonds Lana shares with her men is unlike anything I have experienced. The bonds are so strong and full of love and trust. The family they have built together is truly beautiful. They love one another unconditionally and are there for one another through the good and the bad.
This book brings together a beautiful sight of the tremendous growth Lana has had from book 1 until the very end. While she is not perfect, the confidence, strength and contentment that Lana shows is stunning. She learns to accept who she is, grows into herself and the power she wields, and finds a simmering confidence in herself.
The love and kindness she has not only for her chosen family, but the other Queens, their realms and her god/goddess family knows no bonds. She would go to hell and back to protect them even at the cost of her own life.
R.L. Caulder invokes so many emotions in me with this epic conclusion. I felt the pain and loss that Lana felt at all of the lives so tragically lost, to the love and lust for her men. I felt everything Lana felt right along with her. I’m so sad to see this series end, but I couldn’t have dreamt for a better ending for Lana and her men. A much deserved happily ever after.
Devastation is the epic conclusion to Lana's story, it's the third and final book in the Darkness Rising series and I loved it. There was love, understanding, compassion, heartache, family, surprise reveals, humor and so much more. Lana and her guys have been through so much but it's not over with yet, Erbus is still out there and it's up to Lana to find a way to end his darkness.
Not gonna lie, Lana surprised me in this one. After the devastating events in Detonation, Lana managed to rise above it, she has matured, sure Lana still has her sense of humor but Lana has a seriousness that she didn't have before. With so much resting on her shoulders Lana is feeling the pressure of figuring out her new powers as a demi-god, making connections with the other realms, meeting new family, and figuring out how to stop Erbus from conquering the realms. It's a lot and while Lana's confidence may have taken a hit the guys are there for her.
I love that the guys look to Lana to lead their group but also call her out when something isn't right, but support her in her decisions and actions. Lana isn't the only one who has grown through the series, the guys have changed and it's more apparent in this book. They're starting to learn more about themselves as individuals but they're also figuring out who they are in the group. It's basically figuring out their emotions and working on their actions such as talking and trust and implementing actions. Lana and the guys have known each other for a long time, they've been together since they were children, they have so many memories and have been through so much, not to mention their past lives, they have a stronger bond than most harems, they click and are a family even without the effort. The guys are great, love them and love them with Lana, the understanding, the jokes, the steam, they're great.
This series turned out so differently than I expected, what I thought was gonna be a fae story turned into a story about the gods with other supernatural mixed in, and I loved it. I love stories about gods so this was a great twist to the series, then to add in supernaturals gave the story something new. As Lana goes on a journey to unite the realms a few new characters were introduced to the story that I would love to know more about and actually seems like they would be good candidates for spin-off series, only time will tell if we'd get them.
A few of my favorite things (besides the mythology) I loved seeing the other realms I just wish there was a little more time in each of the realms, the new characters are great and as I said I would love to know more about them, and the family craziness. Lana has a whole other family that she had no idea about but she seems to click with some of them. It would have been great to see Lana get to know them more, to see more conversations and banter between Lana and her new relatives. While I am happy with what I got I would have loved more.
Devastation was a fantastic conclusion to Lana's story. The action and adventure were great, the steam was delicious, family drama, magic, relationships, and the epic battle made Devastation a fantastic read. The story went by too fast and I'm gonna miss Lana and the guys but I'm looking forward to new stories from Ms. Caulder.
Lana quest continues. We left off with a cliff hanger of loss. The loss of a mate and mother, the fact lana is transitioning into a demi-god. She succumbed to the darkness and grief.
>>>>>>spoilers ahead<<<<<<<
Lana awakes in a realm that recognizes her soul. This brings her comfort, and knowledge that while yes gaia is gone, she will forever be with her child. This speaks to my heart as Ive loss my mother. The little things that bring you comfort, knowing they are forever with you, is translated beautifully.
Now to embark on a soul quest. The reference to soul being pulled from ones body being compared to a "human sized band-aid with gorilla glue, slowly being peeled"made me physically cringe. Just ouch.
The fact the god of death is so lively and cheeky really makea me happy. Such beautiful detail to character development. Love it.
Once the mission is completed and lana starts to focus on tbe realms and there queens we really get a glimpse at her as a leader. Her coming into being a goddess and making bonds. Finding her comfort with her mates after everything thats happened.
The race against establishing links & relationships with the new queens of each realm and staying ahead of the impending darkness. Everytime i think they are getting ahead something pops up. Constantly keeping me on my toes and my nose in the book.
I was worried with some of the previous trauma this one wouldn't be as steamy, but i was not disappointed 👌. They take it at her pace but its every bit as steamy, as well as empowering. The trauma is addressed and you see some ptsd and panicky moments that are real.
Ok Serenity's home is my dream. Goth- chic, absolutely in lovee with the beautiful details. Honestly she's one if my favorite characters from tbis series.
Grammie is the warmth we envision when we think of grandma. The feeling of home, love, and acceptance.
The battle. It is violent and scoured with fire and dripping in blood. Everything you want in a good battle scene. The technique is beautiful and effective for the realms. Lana continues to be an unpredictable badass.
Outa of all the realms i feel earth is underwhelming. But i can't say i hate the idea of Gaia, looking over and being our protector.
Beautiful ending full of love and dare i say another adventure is brewing!?!?!
Ekkk! Absolutely love Caulder ability to captivate the reader, make us fall in love with this characters. We watch them grow so much. I absolutely loved the journey through this series, and would 100% recommend it. 5 stars from me.
I just finished this book, and I have to say, it was everything I needed it to be. There was humor, action, romance, fantasy, suspense, and of course, spice 🥵 If you’ve read this far, you know this series is a reverse harem. Our main girl grows and blossoms throughout the series, and ended up becoming the strong woman she was destined to be. Of course, she wouldn’t be where she is without her boys, and they each play their role while she never has to choose between them as they are fated mates ❤️ What this series has that a lot of spicy books don’t have, is a story!! R. L. Caulder is so talented at taking us into that fantasy world with her as she tells the story from the character’s points of view. Not only does their story tear at your heart strings, but you watch these characters grow and morph into strong individuals who seem to become stronger as they come together...pun intended. As the plot thickens, you feel their anger, excitement, and determination as you reach the climax of the story. (😏 see what I did there) I loved how the sexy scenes were more realistic than a lot of the books I have read. The angst from losing your virginity, the pain from losing your anal virginity, the raw emotion in love making. It could all happen that way in the real world. It wasn’t outlandish or unrealistic. Bravo! Another great series!
Devastation is the third and final book in RL Caulder’s paranormal reverse harem series, Darkness Rising.
I wasn’t sure what to expect or where this story would go after the way Detonation ended. But wow!!! What a way to end the series. Of course, everything gets wrapped up, well, almost everything. So much was packed into this book.
The characters are what make Devastation. They have all come a long way. They have matured, evolve, have taken to their newish lives like champs. And the love they all share... *sigh* Also, the sex is off the charts!! This book is steamy, sad, joyous, and brutal, with elements of humour thrown in.
This book also introduces some new characters, along with the old, and has laid the foundation for potential spin-offs, fingers crossed.
RL’s writing continues to get better with each new release. Congratulations!!
For all those who have yet to read this series, read it now! You won't be disappointed.
Devastation is the epic conclusion to Lana's story I'm so sad to see this series come to end. But book 3 did picks right up where book two ended. I liked that it read like a refresher for a quick reminder of events since it's been awhile. I will say that this book was everything I hope for and more. There was plenty of action, intrigue, laugh out loud moments, suspense, and of course steamy encounters to keep you hooked from beginning to end making it a helluva read. The ending kinda gave me a feeling that a possible spin-offs for supporting characters if that so I'll be eagerly waiting for that to happen. As always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
Holy hell!! I have been anticipating this book and RL did NOT disappoint. It was amazing!
This book left off right where book 2 ended. I was heartbroken at the end of that book and begging for things to be made right. I don’t think i’ve ever began or read the beginning of a book so fast in my life.
This story focuses on Lana being the goddess she was born to be and preparing/going to war with Erebus. i honestly don’t think i’ve ever focused so much on character growth but throughout the whole book I reminisced on these characters from Book 1 and how much they grew. I loved them then I love them so much now. These characters will forever be in my heart ♥️
If you’re PNR fan, I highly recommend this series!
Omg I couldn’t have dreamed of a better conclusion for Lana and her men! It was completely perfect! R.L. Caulder brings you everything and so so much more. This one was action packed, drama filled and full of all the feels. Life love loss and happiness is what you get with this fantastic read. We see Lana and each of her guys come into their magic fully accept who they are as well as accept and push through all their doubts about the bad crap they have been through. Every single emotion Lana and her guys felt through this story I felt as the reader their emotions were so strong and bled through the pages. Lana is the ultimate queen and stepped into her role like the fierce warrior she is and handles business. This was an Epic conclusion in the Darkness Rising Series and an absolute must read!! Complete fan for life and I can’t wait for the next creation from this author.
Devastation by R.L. Caulder is the perfect conclusion to the Darkness Rising series and Lana and her mates story. It is an action-packed/fast-paced story and held my attention from the very first page to the last page. I read this book in one sitting because I could not put it down!
I love the character growth and development that Lana went through from the first book to now in Devastation. She has grown so much in her confidence in herself and in her relationships with her mates. She really goes on an emotional journey throughout this series, and even though the odds seem stacked against her, Lana continues to fight and try to do the right thing. The steam level definitely picks up in this book and that epilogue was 🔥🔥🔥!!
Devastation has solidified R.L. Caulder as a 1-click author for me. The ending seemed to leave it open for possible spin-offs for the supporting characters so I’m excited to see what’s going to happen next in this world!!
Perfect Ending And just like that this beautiful epic series comes to an end. It’s hard to look at this book independently of the other two books. I loved seeing Lana and her men grow into the remarkable individuals they were always destined to be. This is both a love story and a story about self discovery. It was amazing to see Lana grow from a feisty girl to a strong leader, thankfully without losing her sarcasm and sassyness. I also really enjoyed the realms and other characters created by the author. This is a truly lovely friends to lovers reverse harem with yummy men and spice 😉
I don’t like to do spoilers so I will just say that this book and this series is a must read! I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book lives up to it's name because my heart is Devastated to say goodbye! But I'll console myself with the perfection of this ending! (And with the few new faces we met, that I hope turn into new stories!) Lana and her mates have been through so much, but there’s one more battle to win. They have a long journey along the way, one with interesting twists and turns, but what I loved the most is the personal growth each character went through! This is a romance, and a steamy one at that, but the Darkness Rising series is a love story to it's readers as well, one that reminds us we aren't our pasts, and to love ourselves.
Wow! Third and final book and what a finale it is! Action, adventure, romance, steam, battles, family and some fantastic kick ass female characters! A fantastic reverse harem story, this has been an incredible emotional journey as we followed Lana and her men and watched their growth and relationships develop and the obstacles they have fought to overcome and the ending is a great ending with a few twists and surprises along the way!
Devastation is the third and final book in the Darkness Rising series. These books must be read in order. This book is told from multiple views from Lana and her men.
After losing her birth mother, Lana is now mother nature, and must go to the other realms to see if they have a bond with her to try to save the world from the darkness that is coming.
Lana has to ask for help from those in the other realms, and it isn't always easy. Some of her mates are going through their own battles. They must learn to work with their powers to help defeat the darkness.
What happens when the time to fight comes? Will her relationships with her men survive. Will her men be able to forgive the one that was a traitor to them in the other books?
I really enjoyed this series and am sad to see it come to an end. I fell in love with the characters, and am glad to see the growth from start to finish. Each character grew and in a good way.
Do NOT read this book if you've not read the others in this amazing series. It's definitely not a standalone read.
This final book in the series gave me all the feels. It took me on such an emotional rollercoaster. It had adventure, action, steamy scenes, a quest, family, love and a battle against a common enemy. We see that family takes many different forms, and all are just as important. I for one am truly hoping for a spinoff with one particular love god. My fingers are crossed that we *may* see Lana, her guys, and a few others in the future. This entire series has been so much fun to read. I loved the fierce, strong, independent and resilient females peppered throughout this magnificent world. May we see some, or all again in the future!
Devastation (book 3 in this series) was a brilliant finale and all the loose ends were tied up perfectly. This last book was just filled to the brim with love, tears and a few laughs too. Lana (FMC) came into her own in this book by embracing her destiny and who shes meant to be. More so with the help of her men - Zedd, Hale, Luke, Leo and Ash. Each of whom had their own issues to overcome. Which all came to a head for a final showdown with Erebus.
I loved Hypnos and the dry humor of Thanatos. I also loved Kinder and Cadmus. i would love if they all had their own books? Maybe? Id definitely read them if they did. This was a bloody great read and i loved reading it
Lana and her guys travel to all of the realms to warn everyone to prepare for war. Erubus has more secrets than we first realized. He's a master manipulator and has been setting things in motion for a very long time. There's heartbreak, action, and plenty of steam. I'm so sad that this is the last book! I love all of these characters so much. I really hate to see them go. I hope that we get to see them again in the future. This is a fantastic series! I highly recommend!
I received an arc of this book in exchange for my honest review.
As the pieces fall into place Lana and her guys travel the realms giving us glimpses of each of the realm Queens. Just enough face time for each first appearing Queen to catch our curiosity and few doors left were left open for potential spin-offs too! There was a lot of individual and group growth as the group faces down the final battle to stop the devastation being wrecked on the realms. There’s a little bit of everything so everything a reader could want has its moment to shine in this fantastic conclusion to Lana and her guys’ journey.
this is the last book in the series and, wow what a series. From the first page we have action, love and lust with plenty twists and turns along the way. Over the last 3 books Lana has grown and developed so much. I just love her strength and her confidence and that she is not perfect but she accepts who she is with everything that is happening. Yet again R.L Caulder gives us a magical world with fantastic characters and with a great plotline that flows off the pages. This book has the perfect ending for Lana and her men.
Perfect Ending! This series is amazing and this ending was perfect! Caulder continues to show how Lana and the guys need one another to be whole. Their bond continues to grow. I loved seeing them continue their journey and come into their powers. Seeing Lana find her allies was awe inspiring because you could see her love for those around her. Loved it and I couldn’t put it down until I was finished.
Ahh can we just stop and take a moment on that last scene with Lana and her 5 guys.... 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 yep that was hot!
So back to the actual book!
Lana goes to save Ash in the Underworld cos she is a badass and men do actually need saving! And I don't like giving away spoilers but HELLO DRAGONS!!! R.L Caulder has written everything in to this story including keeping the funny witty lines but also amazing action, dragons, Demons, Fae, witches and gasp worthy chapters... And that ending besides the spice... ANOTHER CLIFFHANGER! COME ON!!! Need Eros and Mika's story now!!
Plus having the guys point of view really drags you into the world and keeps you locked in! Yeah this series is a must read!!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
If you want a gut punch, then read this heart breaking lyrics beautiful conclusion to an amazing series! Whoa, this had me going. Such a great book that delivered on setting us up and winding us back down with a satisfying climax. A must read of you have read the series thus far. You won't be disappointed.
Devastation is the epic conclusion to this great series. I devoured this book in one day and was very happy with the ending.
Lana has grown so much since the first book. She has grown into a strong, fierce, sassy demi-goddess. Lana has been on quite an emotional journey throughout the series and even when the odds seem to be stacked against her she continues to fight to protect the ones she love.
This book has everything in it. You will laugh, cry, and fan yourself because there is lots of heat! This was a great ending to this amazing series!
What a book. An awesome way to complete an incredible telling of the realms. Lana and her mates face so much in this book not only personally but collectively too. All the trouble with her learning of herself, her mates new powers of Ash after the ending of the previous book. It seems so much to cope with, will they find the answers, will they get a happy ending or will it all end again in heartbreak. Read it and find out I promise you won’t regret it.
This was an awesome read that took me away from my everyday reality for a few hours. Once I started reading I could not put this read down till it was finished. I had to read it in ne sitting. It moves along at a pace which was neither too fast nor too slow making for an enjoyable read. It has remarkable characters that you will love and a story that will not disappoint. This book needs to be read.
What did I think? Well Lana and her men proved to be badasses once again. All the while, they left me crying from sadness and joy. The characters grew with this series beautifully. The author captured their individual characteristics and expressions in a way that enraptured me. I felt a kindred tie to Lana along this journey, and so I can say the conclusion felt right. A recommended series for anyone who loves RH and some spice with their reading.
I can’t believe this is already the conclusion to this story, I absolutely love Lana and her men! We finally see the bad guy taken down and learn that family is truly whatever you make it. I also hope we get to see another awesome Goddess with her own spinoff, I fell in love with her instantly. This will give you all the emotions and leave you in a serious book hangover.
Lana has been through absolute insanity and now she is literally a goddess. So much has happened to her on her journey that it is hard to believe this is the end of her story. I am praying it isn't because the ending leaves the door open to a book I definitely want. Lana has grown so much through this series and it has been fun to travel this road with her and her guys. I cannot wait to see what the author comes up with next.
