This award-winning otome isekai series stars a final boss who decides to ditch the whole “villainess” schtick and use her powers to protect–not destroy–the people of her kingdom! Don’t miss the light novels, also from Seven Seas, or the upcoming anime!
Crown Princess Pride Royal Ivy is a monstrous little brat who, at the age of eight, suddenly realizes that she was a Japanese teen in a past life who has been reincarnated into her favorite video game! She already knows her she will rise to the throne as the Wicked Queen, destined to bring ruin and misery to all around her, until she is ultimately killed by one of her love interests. Pride decides that if she’s destined to die, she may as well use her royal “last boss” powers to save everyone instead!
WOW! What an explosive way to kick off this month with my first read!
This is very much different than the "fluffy" villainess titles I read because right from the start our heroine was already displaying strong bouts of sadness and despair for not necessarily her future demise, but the demise her future self will have on everyone around her. I was NOT expecting that and it brought a much more mature feel/vibe to this first volume as a result.
Literally with every new situation that Pride faces, there is an underlying desperation to her choices where she REFUSES to do what the Pride from the otome game would have done. (And thankfully so because that Pride is AWFUL! Definitely super hated her anytime she came on page due to flashbacks.) Because of that, you really feel her anguish in that if she doesn't change things in the present, it is going to be a living nightmare for everyone else in the future. I was very much surprised at how tangible her anguish and fears were in those moments, and as result, teared up at least twice!
Again, I was not expecting that and definitely feel this volume is "heavier" than the typical villainess story, *especially* when you see/hear the things Pride not only did to Stale but FORCED Stale to do. (Heads up, one of those scenes was slightly triggering and thankful it was not graphic, despite that it crushed my heart nonetheless and fueled my hatred for the otome game Pride.)
Speaking of Stale, this young man is amazing! I was unsure of how he would be involved in Pride's life due to the flashbacks we've seen, but it has been really amazing seeing him grow in this first volume! He is an incredible character and cannot wait to see him fulfill his own personal vow by Pride's side!
While I won't go in-depth about it since it would be spoilers, I do feel a very unique part of this story is the deep siblings' bond. I LOVED seeing that and 1000% want more! It was touching and is something I feel is rarely portrayed in villainess stories the way it was shown in this first volume.
Overall, this might not be my favorite villainess story, BUT! It is certainly going to be one of the most memorable ones because of what I've mentioned above!
Definitely recommend it if you're looking for a very caring and compassionate heroine who will literally do ANYTHING to help save her people…even if that means her losing her own life just so they can be happy and safe.
Literally one of the best villainess manga I've read to date, and honey. . . that's saying a lot. The story follows a girl who is reincarnated into her favorite otome game as the Villainess Princess Pride. And she tries to flip the narrative. I know, sounds stereotypical. BUT! That's not even the best part!
Okay, so she's completely torn up about the villainess actions which come to her in the form of premonitions. She is then placed in multiple scenarios where she has to make tough decisions. AND OUR QUEEN GOES TO WAR! Literally, she grabs a sword and says "Take me to that battlefield!"
I think this is a pretty cute story. Another reincarnated into an otome game tale, but I came here for that. I like the characters and all, but there are several getting introduced into this one story and I feel like it's a bit rushed in a way, especially with how it ends. A normal cliffhanger but still kind of out of nowhere with a new character introduced. I feel like the plot with the current prime minister needed a bit more delving into and was suddenly cast aside. Still want to read what happens next though.
It’s entertaining, but there are some rather glaring issues that I can’t overlook for my rating.
Pride (what a name for a villainess) is the most annoying kind of transmigrated girl - for some reason she is convinced that the story won’t change EVEN AS SHE’S CHANGING IT. It is crazy to not understand that the entire trajectory of the plot is going to alter if she doesn’t 1. Force Stale to kill his mom and 2. Lock up Tiara. The fact that her parents are still alive is another significant deviation…it sounded like in the original game she inherited the throne very young. I can only assume that the dad’s death devastated the queen so she followed soon after.
Another major problem - why would Pride be such a shitty kid in the first place? Why are her parents allowing her to be a spoiled, evil little brat? She’s only 8 at the start, and they determined her fate (through precognition, I assume) of being evil, so her mom didn’t even tell her about Tiara. Uh….so at 2, she was irredeemable?? At 8 she’s already ordering her new “little brother” to murder his mom for her amusement, really??
Stale can barely read, but his mom is literate enough to write him letters. Why do they even adopt an unrelated kid to be a steward anyway? How did they know about his teleportation ability? Why can’t he be a butler instead of her brother? A steward is basically a butler anyway, and that makes more sense than having a “royal” forced into this job. What kind of power is eternal youth for her dad’s seneschal?? How is that useful to a ruler? Is Gilbert supposed to be equivalent to the king as Stale is to Pride? If so, that makes even less sense because Stale claims to outrank him, and the king married into the royal family (since the queen is the precog). Where is the Queen’s steward? Gilbert is obviously suspicious, but it’s kinda skipped over that for now.

I know this book follows a pretty standard isekai storyline, but what can I say? I like what I like!
My only annoyance is the main characters' names ( O _ o ). Pride? Tiara?? Stale??? They're the most atrocious crime to my eyes I've ever had the displeasure to read, and I wish that when this series was translated into English that someone would've had the mercy to change them. It's a crime.
Looking past that travesty, I had a marvelous time reading this volume! Pride (insert gagging noise) was a delight to follow. While her insistence that the ending of the otome will come to pass eventually is idiotic, she's a generally level-headed and just MC, and I know that I'll enjoy the plotlines that inevitably revolve around her. All the characters are interesting, even those we didn't spend much time with in this volume. I know Stale will develop into a formidable ally, and that Tiara will get development in time as well. I anticipate seeing how both grow in their relationships with Pride and each other!
The concept of having characters with such specific magic powers is interesting to me, so that was another plus to this experience. Magic is a staple of the fantasy genre, but such uber-narrow abilities is something I haven't seen explored, at least not in recent memory. It makes me wonder how the author will use those magical possibilities in future books.
I cannot wait to read the next volume! This is definitely a series I'd be happy to pay for, so there'll be no waiting until my library gets a copy this time.
This one has a dark emotional core. The young protagonist was destined to have a life where she was unloved by her mother, after doting on her to compensate her father died abruptly, and a hidden sister was revealed as she was taking control of the country. Given poor advice from above and blessed with powerful magical abilities she became a villainess (or so the plot was supposed to be). Now she has been enlightened with knowledge from a different life where all this was just an otome game. Princess Pryde does not know how much the future can be changed, still expects to be killed by those closest to her within the decade, and yet wants to try and live differently in the meantime. Thus readers are treated to fluffier character interactions on the surface as they watch the lady struggle with identity, flashbacks to alternative timelines, and the weight of expectations. Elements are predictable and others are borrowed from overused cliches obviously, but so far the series means well. World development is a little sparse but it is just the beginning volume.

This manga is really interesting I really like the premise and the story is really good looking forward to reading more soon. The love the characters they are interesting I especially love Pride she was reborn as the villainess from her favorite game and she is determined to change many things I really like her tenacity. The other characters are interesting her adoptive brother Stale whom she tormented in the original story Pride changes this so he is completely devoted to her and would do most anything for her. Even the background characters are interesting to the knights to the maids I do like her parents and little sister as well very well written characters. The plot was really interesting it starts with Pride remembering her past life and how she is the villainess in her new one so she sets out to change things so hopefully what happened to her in the original story does not happen in her current life looking forward to reading more.
very cute!!! I really want to know where this one is going. I like how she's skilled at combat, and her powers of 'premonition' let her bring in her memories from the original world. I hope the sister (original heroine of the game) stays good and doesn't turn into the bad guy, that would make this a bit too much like the most recent isekai manga I read.
took off one star because the possibility of her marrying her adopted brother keeps getting brought up. I know he's basically like her sworn knight and not related? but they call each other brother/sister so I'm meh about it lol.

So extremely my jam! Our main character gets isekai'd into Princess Pride, the main villain of her otome game. Originally Pride is the main character's evil sister who ruins the kingdom. When our main character arrives, she uses her power of precognition to save her parents' lives and build strong relationships with her younger sister and adopted brother. Adorable!
Ahhhh the art style is so cute and the way it ends on a cliffhanger just makes me itch for more! I love how there's a mix of funny and serious moments but I love that the girl gets reincarnated from the villian and is using her knowledge to do everything right! It's so refreshing for an isekai and this was written so well! I can wait to read volume 2!
I got this as a a whim gift and it turned out to be an amazing story. the story is a great idea of trying to change your pre-ordained fate and making your own path.
