TRAVEL AGENTS: More Scrapes, Japes and Narrow Escapes

Rate this book
Would you risk being arrested by Iran’s secret police or subject yourself to a ‘torture massage’ in North Korea just so you could say you’d survived to tell the tale? And would you even want to share a crude-oil bath with a retired croc hunter in Azerbaijan? Or pull a golden ring from a turd? Graham and his wife Lisa have done all of these things. In journeys spanning the globe, they’ve also visited Kashmir when it was the most dangerous place on earth, encountered sucking sharks off Belize and a slapdash psychic in Miami, braved burning barricades in riot-torn Bolivia and been fondled by an elderly voodoo priest in Benin. Written in a chemo ward after a devastating cancer diagnosis, and completed during the Covid-19 lockdown, Travel Agents – the warm and witty follow-up to the best-selling Travel Seekness – continues the unforgettable story of Lisa and Graham’s hilarious and often hair-raising escapades around the world. If you enjoy the observational humour of David Sedaris, Bill Bryson, George Mahood and Sue Perkins, you’ll love this unforgettable book by Graham Williams and Lisa Jackson, the best-selling authors of Travel Seekness and the award-winning Your Pace or Mine?Buy now to be transported on a life-affirming journey, and to make a donation to lung cancer research. Travel Agents offers all the fun of travelling abroad – without the rigmarole of airport security!

I read and loved Lisa and Graham’s first book and this follow up did not disappoint.

So many disasters and near death incidents happening to one lovely couple - they really should not be let out on their own! Enjoyed all their tales and having visited some of the same places, admittedly staying in rather more luxurious accommodation, it was good to read of their adventures and refresh my memory. My travels have been tame in comparison, however, should I ever find myself queuing for a plane with them, I would beat a hasty retreat.

Looking forward to your next dramatic travelogues, well, if we are ever allowed to travel again that is!!! Thank you Lisa and Graham for a great read, one that I can strongly recommend to anyone, traveller or not. Guaranteed to make you both laugh out loud and squirm uncomfortably.

Strap in and enjoy the ride with Lisa and Graham. What a fabulous book and sequel to Travel Seekness, a complete page turner. Full of hair raising and heart stopping moments with adventures that keeps your attention till the last word.
How about coming face to face with ready to eat grey pickled pigs feet, llama steaks and coca tea, tent camping in freezing temperatures nearly getting hypothermia and then being asked why on earth you didn't check in to a hotel when it was so cold!
Surviving by the skin of their teeth the unrest and one of the bloodiest events in Bolivia's history.
What a journey, what an adventure and one I am glad to have only experienced virtually by reading this brilliantly written travel memoir.
An absolutely cracking read for any nonfiction book lover.

As a homing-pigeon kinda gal, the vicarious thrills delivered by 'Travel Agents' have rocketed enough adrenalin around my veins to see me through 2021. Boy, they weren’t kidding with their jacket coverline: “More scrapes, japes and narrow escapes”. From being tailed and interrogated in Iran, to being pummelled in Pyongyang, to completing more marathons in bizarre circumstances than you can shake a stick at, their adventures are eye-popping. And to think that a fair few of them were fitted in between Graham’s cancer treatment, too. Hats off, guys: you – and your astonishing book – just rock!

This is the first book that I have read by Lisa and Graham and Wow! What a whirlwind of adventures in a book that is hard to put down once you have started reading, didn't disappoint. Utterly gripped in their exploits as they travel the world to some of the world’s most beautiful to some of the world’s most dangerous places. Thank you for bringing your travel journey to us, written with humour, unfiltered (toe curing in parts) and inspiration with every page turned. I'd highly recommend it.
Stay safe on your next adventure!

Around the world in 280 pages with a pair of tour guides who are wryly observant, always curious, never afraid of street food or the local brew, alive to history and politics, not infrequently a danger to themselves, and full of crazy stories – quite a few of which do not involve toilets. If you can’t go to the ends of the earth yourself, read this book. And if you can, definitely read it before you set out.

Wow. I love travel adventures but feel like an amateur compared to these guys! Such intense experiences written with genuine passion, humanity and humour - even when danger looms. Which it often does. It’s also very informative with its snapshots of historical events - plus the fact there’s been so much change in many of the places they write about. This is the perfect time too, while travel is on hold, to read this great, heartfelt book. A big recommend.

I read the previous book Travel Seekness and loved it. This one also didn't disappoint - fast-paced and funny. I think it is the scrapes and things that go wrong on trips that are memorable and Graham and Lisa describe these well. Having a book written from two different viewpoints adds to the enjoyment.

I loved Travel Seekness, the predecessor to this and this was just as good, if not better. I honestly cannot believe two people can get into such scrapes! It's interesting to have the two voices narrating and give their perspectives. Thoroughly good read, I read it in three sittings as I needed to keep reading on to make sure they were OK!

So happy to be reunited with Lisa and Graham as they continue their journey through life, marriage and travel adventures in lesser known (to me) places. Travel Agents is just as intimate, funny, horrifying and informative as Travel Seekness, but all the more enjoyable for knowing Lisa and Graham a little better.

Ahhh !! What a fab book.. Loved it from the start to the very finish. Graham and Lisa take you on a journey 'to die' for. So much adventure, wish I had them as my dinner party guests. For now I'll just settle for getting copies as Christmas pressies.

Entertaining and educational, not just about a vast array of unusual destinations such as Togo, Zimbabwe, Colombia, Azerbaijan and Iran, but about what NOT to do when travelling! Lots of scrapes and narrow escapes as promised in the title!

I was in the mood for a light travel read and this fit the bill. I enjoyed the authors' sense of humor and their tales were inspiring. Listening to Lisa and Graham narrate added an extra element to the experience.

Such fun to read about Lisa and Graham's travels - not sure how they get themselves into so many "scrapes" but glad they've made it back to write about them.
