In this engaging book, O’Hanlon introduces the three main concepts of inclusive therapy: permission, inclusion of opposites, and inclusion of exceptions. Each of the 26 featured methods is immediately applicable to your own practice.
This is the third short book of this nature I've read from author and therapist Bill O'Hanlon - the other two were Do One Thing Different: Ten Simple Ways to Change Your Life and A Guide to Possibility Land: Fifty-One Methods for Doing Brief, Respectful Therapy. I love that his books are simple, fun, and approachable. As a therapist myself, I appreciate the way that O'Hanlon shares practical, useful techniques, always focusing on specific examples. Although I was already familiar with most of the subject matter in this book, I still found it a very validating, useful reminder.
A good, quick read on some ideas regarding solution focused work and the importance of using what the client gives you, after all, they are expert, not you. The chapters are short and to the point. There are suggested exercises at the end of each section that will help you apply the principles you are learning. If you haven’t read Guide to Possibility Land, read it before reading this book.
