FBI Agent Logan Reed specializes in explosives. He can track and defuse almost any incendiary device...
Except for the one buried deep inside his soul.
Home from Afghanistan now for two years, Logan has secured the perfect assignment on the FBI-K9 Bomb Squad in Denver. His new partner, a Belgian Malinois named Gunner, is an expertly trained bomb-sniffing dog. He's everything a handler could hope for, except he's not Lobo.
Agent Addison Thorne, a Bomb Technician at the top of her game, doesn't trust the new guy. He's too quiet and never goes out with the crew for a beer after work. There's just something about him that makes her nervous, and nerves aren't what a bomb-tech likes to feel.
Tasked with finding a bomber on the loose in the Mile-high city, the explosives team must figure out who is planting the bombs and why before the civilian casualties skyrocket. Will they find all the bombs before panic ensues and they are forced to evacuate the capital?

I'm absolutely in love with this book! It definitely tore at my heartstrings and also had me "on the edge of my seat" at other moments. I already loved the characters and I'm glad that I got to know them better! I would for sure recommend this book and the series. Jodi Burnett is a new favorite author. I can never get enough of her K-9 books. I also love that the books are based in my home state. I grew up in the Denver area and now I’m in Colorado Springs, which is about an hour outside of Denver. Reading about the Denver Capitol brought back memories of my youth and the field trips that we took there. This is a great book to add to your list! Happy Reading!
This is the fourth book in Jodi Burnett's FBI-K9 series and it is awesome. Agent Logan Reed becomes a part of the Denver Bomb Squad which is led by Agent Addison Thorne. Agent Reed has been given a new dog partner with whom he wants to maintain a purely professional relationship. The author explores the relationship that develops between the agents and their dog partners. I enjoyed this story very much. I recommend this series to others who enjoy well written stories. Kimberly Austin's narration is awesome and her voice is pleasing. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.
Burnett often tackles subjects that are relevant in our society. Her research is impeccable therefore the reader gets a very realistic glimpse into the lives of the bomb technicians and the K-9 agents. Her characters come to life and she is even able to create sympathy for the bullied and maligned villain in this story. I recommend all her books.
This is another great book from this author. She has a knack for weaving a suspenseful novel and creating rich wonderful characters. The chemistry between Logan and Kara is believable and builds from their first meeting. I could not put the book down and read it in 2 days. Highly recommend!
Explosive! No pun intended. There is definite mayhem in the mile high city, but not just with explosives, but also within Agent Logan Reed. The mayhem within our adversary is a wake up call to another issue in our world today and handle deftly by Jodi Bennett. The author even notes, that is not an excuse, it is a factor. Kara made me laugh, and that was so needed in this tense book of building and people falling under out adversaries' bombs. This book tugged on emotions, and heart. The twist at the end was great with the bad guy. The end of the book had me going through half a box of kleenex!!! I am in love with this series, aka hooked. Thank you for the arc! I freely share my thoughts and opinions.
I love reading K9 books and was not disappointed. All her books are a treasure that everyone should read. Looking forward to more great adventures. Thank you for your great writing skills. It is always so difficult to wait for the next book, however patience will have to do for now. Judy
Logan lost his very best friend in battle. He’s trying to start a new life. The demons of his past stop him from letting anyone in. Addy, his boss just isn’t letting it go. She wants to know why he’s so shut down. She’s in a dead end relationship & can’t understand why she stays. It’s a match made in K9 bomber unit history. A serial bomber, a eye opening revelation, a nosy “grandma” neighbor & a kid who was bullied in school, create a new reality for Logan. His neighbor Harriet grandmas him with casseroles & cookies. His boss is beautiful & stubborn. His K9 Gunner loves him with loyalty no one can imagine. This story will keep you reading. It was hard to put down between chapters. The last chapter took me the longest to read. I cried through it all. This is a great story about reality, love, family & loyalty. A must read. Start with book 1 of the series. The characters will make more sense.
For the men and women of the FBI, standing vigil and protecting America against a litany of terrifying threats comes with tremendous responsibility. Agents balance fear with courage… danger, with absolute trust in their partners when the stakes are life and death in the line of fire. However, not all Special Agents are human; the Bureau relies on a special breed of canine G-Men attached to the FBI’s elite K-9 Unit. Tasked with sniffing out the world’s most dangerous criminals: from narcotics traffickers, arms dealers, terrorist bombers, serial arsonists and the list for The Most Wanted goes on and on.
Now, author Jodi Burnett romanticizes the FBI’s Top Dogs in her hit fiction series, “FBI-K9 Series.” In Book 4, “Mile High Mayhem,” we meet a highly skilled K-9 duo of G-Men: former Military Working Dog handler/Special Agent Logan Reed and his Belgian Malinois Explosives Detection Dog Gunner. Assigned to the Denver Field Office as newcomers to the Bureau’s renowned bomb squad, Logan and Gunner are in for the most explosive and deadly case of their lives as The Mile High City becomes Ground Zero for a madman’s sadistic bombing campaign. Fortunately, they won’t be running into harm’s way alone. When Gunner alerts to potentially lethal devices, ironically, the first one downrange is not a man with nerves of steel but rather a woman clad in an 85-pound Kevlar bomb suit. Introducing Special Agent Bomb Technician Addison Thorne, a former U.S. Navy EOD tech and head of the FBI Bomb Squad; Addison possesses the skill of a surgeon and the heart of a warrior when defusing destructive devices.
At the tip-of-the spear in America’s War on Terror, this brave trio do their best to stay one step ahead of a cunning adversary, a vengeful and emotionally disturbed bomber, Benjamin Sykes, who harbors a decades-old grudge against numerous school bullies who’ve wronged him in the most unforgivable ways. He sees no other solution but to blow them all away. It’s a desperate race against time as a daring and compassionate bomb technician along with a courageous K-9 team scramble to save an entire city in the cross-hairs of terror.
This was a very entertaining novel. After listening to it on Audible, Jodi Burnett does a great job creating likable characters and immersing them into realistically dramatic situations. The bonds shared between the book’s heroes, human and canine alike are honest and very tender, especially with a female heroine like Addison. She’s a tomboyish, tenacious and morally grounded bomb tech in a male-dominated profession who doesn’t take crap from anybody. Addison Thorne gives just as much as she gets. On the other hand, Logan Reed is a flawed hero haunted by demons from his past, mourning the death of his MWD Lobo killed in an IED ambush years ago. Addison’s strengths and Logan’s vulnerability tempered by a vow to not lose anyone he cares about makes “Mile High Mayhem” a very compelling and raw character study. Jodi Burnett combines the human emotion of Robert Crais’ “Suspect” and the psychological intrigue of Thomas Perry’s “The Bomb Maker.” Well worth the time to read or listen.
Logan Reed is an agent with the FBI K-9 unit assigned to the bomb squad. Logan was a K-9 handler in the Army as well but lost his canine partner when he stepped on a land mine. Logan not only lost his partner but also a couple of fellow soldiers. He has erected a wall around his heart so no one can get too close. Addison is Logan’s boss on the bomb squad. She is weary of Logan because he is so closed off. When a serial bomber threatens their town, the two must work together in order to diffuse the situations and catch the bomber. Can Addison trust him to have her back? How many people have to die before they can catch the bomber?
Gripping story dealing with past hurts, PTSD, and taking revenge to the ultimate level. This is a fast paced book that was hard to put down. Burnett does a great job of getting the reader into the mind of her characters. We get a look at their thoughts, feelings, insecurities, and the reasoning behind their decisions. This includes the serial bomber in this book. This series also does a great job of looking at the relationship between K9 handlers and their canine partners. I like how Logan lets his walls down little by little almost without even realizing it. He is a good man with a big heart and is so afraid of letting anyone in. I love Harriet, the neighbor lady. I also enjoyed Addison's spunky, courageous no nonsense attitude. She is a female in a leadership position in law enforcement. She is tough and doesn't take flack from anyone.
I received a review copy from the author. I am voluntarily leaving a review and was not required to write a positive review.
The fourth book in the FBI-K9 series starts out with a bang and the action doesn’t quit. Agent Logan Reed is recovering from the loss of his bomb detection dog Lobo and his medical discharged from the Army. He has moved to Denver and is now with the FBI and his bomb detection dog K-9 Gunner. He is stunned at his first meeting with the lead bomb technician, Agent Addison Thorne. She is definitely not what he expected. The first bomb is deemed a hoax, but the next bomb takes the life of a woman in a mall store. As the team begins to search for clues, Addison tries to get to know this new member of her team…but he only wants to be left alone. They finally get a break with some new evidence, but will they be in time to save the next victim? They now realize that they have a serial bomber who is wanting recognition and settling old scores. Follow along as Logan and Addison try to stop the killer as she slowly hopes that friendship can become so much more. Such wonderful characters and a story that is hard to put down. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)
I had to get into this one once I seen it. Logan has a specialty but too bad it didn't work on him. He does though have a adorable partner named Gunner. We are also given Addison who has her nerves worked by Logan. They do have to work together to stop a madman but if they don't they will have many a reason why they should of. This author knows how to work on our nerves and pull us forward wondering what will be the next event in this. Unpredictable is the understatement.
If you're like me, and immerse yourself in the book, you could be in for some tense moments. Dogs, bombs, and romance. Jodi brings you into the story and places you smack dab in the middle. What a ride this one was!!! Oh, and by the way, you might need a tissue or two.
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
FBI K9 Handler Logan Reed is assigned to a Denver bomb squad lead by Addison Thorne. Due to tragedy of war he tries to distance himself from bomb squad members and his K9 Gunner. As the story line unfolds this becomes impossible to due. From the beginning we know who is setting bombs and why. Ride along with the team as they search for answers to the bombings .This is a nonstop breath holding heart stopping descriptive narrative. You are placed in the action with Logan and Gunner as they search for bombs some.fake and others very real. And Addison as she tries to defuse them So grab some snacks and your favorite beverage as you will be glued to your seat.as you read ..You may also want a box of tissues for the closing chapter I recived an ARC for review
I just finished reading Mile High Mayhem. This is Jodi Burnett's best book yet! She has the ability to fully immerse the reader into the story. The characters are very believable and it did elicit a few tears. It's filled with nail-biting adventure. I highly recommend Mile High Mayhem for any reader who loves excitement and a touch of romance.
Mile High Mayhem (FBI-K9 Series Book 4) by Jodi Burnett is a fantastic story that I have loved reading. This is book number four in this fantastic series that I have been hooked on since the beginning. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about action thrillers.
I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
Pager turner. I couldn't put it down. Gave me chills and I love the bits of romance throughout. I think I fall in love with all the pups in her K-9 books too!
After reading Mile High Mayhem, book 4 in the FBI K-9 Series, I’m hard put to pick one favorite. If you read my review of Concealed Cargo, Book 3, you recall that I said that Concealed Cargo was my favorite to date. Now I lean towards Mile High Mayhem, not because it’s a more exciting read but because I get to spend more time with Logan Reed, a character I first encountered in Renegade, Book 1 in Jodi’s Tin Star K-9 Series. One of the great things about Jodi as a writer is that she creates characters that are so realistic that they remind me of people that I have known in real life.
Another thing that makes Jodi’s books special is that even though Jodi wrote them as a series, they can be read in any order as standalone thrillers and enjoyed. Never-the-less, to get the most satisfying reading experience they should be read in the order in which Jodi wrote them, beginning with the Flint River Series, then Renegade, Book 1 in the Tin Star series before reading the FBI K-9 Series. All these books build upon the ones that preceded them. Although all these stories have satisfying denouements, they leave the reader with the feeling that there’s more to come and Mile High Mayhem is no exception to that rule. The only question is is how long will we have to wait a volume 5 or maybe a sequel to these four to tie all the stories together like she did with A Flint River Christmas to complete the stories begun in the Flint River trilogy.
Jodi’s books have something for every reader. For the hardcore adrenaline junky, they’re a roller coaster thrill ride when the action never stops and death lies around every corner. For the romantic, there’s romance where love blooms against all odds. For the animal lovers there are heroic K-9s and studly horses. For a reader like me who can say, “Been there, done that,” someone who people would say has ice water in his veins instead of blood, Jodi’s books has me riding an emotional roller coaster, laughing riotously one moment and on the verge of tears the next. If you have read none of Jodi Burnett’s book, you need to read her now. She’s an author that every reader needs to experience.
Welcome to Denver, the mile-high city, where FBI Agent Logan Reed and his K9 partner are searching a school after a bomb threat has been made. Bomb technician, Addison Thorne, is also on the scene. After locating a fake device, the search is on to find out who could have placed it on campus. Addison wants to get to know Logan because he is new to the team, but he keeps to himself.
More threats are called in and the focus shifts to a hunt for a serial bomber. Author Jodi Burnett creates just the right amount of tension to keep the reader intrigued. Although we learn the bomber’s identity and his motivation early in the book, I still kept turning pages to learn what he was doing to further carry out his plan and to see the FBI response.
Romance between the two agents helps to keep the book from becoming too intense. The dog is an integral part of the story, not only because of his work, but because of his relationship to Logan. Although Addison’s role is usually limited to defusing explosives, she tags along with Logan in some of the searches.
This is a well-written story. I love animals so the relationship between Logan and his dog drew me in. Even the idea of someone working in life-threatening situations is enough to give this reader a chill, so I found that the romance works well in relieving the tension.
I was provided with an advance copy by the author with no promise made of a positive review. Mile High Mayhem is the only book I have read in the series, and I enjoyed it enough to promptly purchase a previous one. I look forward to enjoying more of her work.
I didn’t think Jodi could beat Concealed Cargo... and she didn’t, but this book has come in as a close second for me - so far anyway.
I enjoy that each novel covers a different type of crime, introduces a new K9-handler and the romance involves love interest from a new background and very different character. The thing I love even more is that the characters from the previous books are part of the next story, even if they just make a brief appearance and so the FBI-K-9 family grows.
Logan Reed and his new K9 partner Gunner are assigned to an FBI explosives team, led by Addison Thorne. He won’t bond properly with his excellent bomb sniffer dog and is very reserved with his new team mates. Addison is concerned about this behaviour and wonders if Logan is right for her team and is determined to get to the bottom of Agent Reed’s reasons for his reticence.
It was a great story, with lots of action, breath taking moments and insights into human behaviour and motivations.
I experienced this story as audio book, once again beautifully and sensitively narrated by Kimberly Austin. Having the same narrator for the series enhances the listening pleasure for me. It emphasises the continuity of the series, though each book could be read / listened to as standalone.
I received this book in audio book format from the author and am leaving this review of my own volition.
I was introduced to this author through an ARC program and now I receive the ARCs directly from the author. This is the fourth book in the FBI K-9 series but could be read as a standalone. This book takes the idea of K-9 working in law enforcement and adds the bomb squad element to keep the story moving and the pages turning. In this book, we are introduced to Logan Reed, who has just joined the FBI Bomb Squad with his new K-9 partner, Gunner. There he meets team lead and bomb technician, Addison Thorne, who is trying to understand Logan and how she could encourage him to be an active member of her team. His past still haunts him with the memory of his K-9 partner Lobo. As they work together to track a serial bomber, they get closer and work together to help Logan get over his painful memories. The book is full of action and adventure around the bombings and how the authorities chase this criminal.
Each one of Jodi's books gets better & better. I am just blown away by her books. This one was about a vet trying to deal with the death of his service dog. The blast that took his dogs life was his fault. When he got a job on the fbi canine bomb squad he told himself he would try not to care so much for his partner. But Gunner his new dog quickly grew on him. His new boss Addison was trying to get to know him but he didn't make it easy for her. She was impossible Logan thought. When they got involved in a serial bomber case the story took an explosive turn. Logan found himself working side by side with her and he was starting to like her. I enjoyed their journey together as they tried to find the killer. The story is full of twists & turns and also dogs. The suspense will keep the pages turning and the ending will shock you. I think this has the perfect narrator who brought each character to life. Another fine job for this author.
3.25 Stars. As a resident of Colorado, it was very difficult to read about bombings at sites I have visited often. This book is heavy on revengeful acts and light on the romance. I would have preferred more balance, especially since I found Addison and Logan so likable. There are no steamy scenes. There are some pretty emotional scenes. The main plot resolves around bullying and seeking revenge. Both addressed in great details, which was hard to read. I have issues when a author doesn’t keep her own story straight. For example, Logan tells Addison the wedding is tomorrow and then a page or two later says it’s next Saturday. I did like that former couples from this series are part of this story. I wanted to know more about the strenuous relationship between Logan’s siblings. Of course, Gunner is the real hero of the book.
Logan Reed and his K9 partner Gunner, an expertly trained bomb-sniffing Belgian Malinois, team up with the Denver Bomb Squad in search of the person that’s terrorising the Mile-high city. Bomb technician Addison Thorne doesn’t trust Logan though. He seems to be battling inner demons, never talks about himself or his army career and refuses to have a drink with the crew after work. If Addison and Logan want to identify and stop the bomber in time, they will have to learn how to work together and trust each other unconditionally… Mile High Mayhem is the 4th book in the FBI-K9 series by Jodi Burnett. A page-turning read with great new characters (I just love Harriet!), amazing dogs and a budding romance. I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
This was a well-constructed story with complex characters dealing with past traumas and discovering new avenues to recovery and enjoying a new life. The plot line is very credible and reflects on the impact of thoughtless bullying in younger years on the lives of the victim, especially when compounded with other factors. The story has lots of adrenaline moments and creates the tension of bomb-squad life very well, and the bonding between a K-9 search dog and their partner. The story follows the revenge of the victim on his tormentors and eh search for the bomber's identity and motivation. The epilogue is also very well constructed and fulfilling in resolving many points left at the end of the main story.
It's just random chance that they all came together, but it was a good thing. Gunner is the hero as you might expect for a K9. But he comes with a handler who is a good man with a very troubled past. Suddenly he is part of a new team and the author pulls us into the story. The detail will put you exactly in Denver. The personnel will feel like you are there with them.
The story is wrapped around the evil that bullies can inflict. In this case it carries on into adulthood. The action builds and builds such that you will feel it, maybe even want to jump back to protect yourself. But this action forces Logan and Addy to address the issues they are facing.
The emotions will grab in the story. They will build to a crescendo by the time everyone ends up at the ranch.
The story grabs you from the start. It has grief, guilt, revenge, intrigue, suspense, tension, a little romance, and more. Logan fights with all his might not to get attached to anyone, human or animal, but he's fighting a losing battle when he works with his amazing partner, Gunner, and meets his new teammate, Addison. He doesn't stand a chance. Between them and his elderly neighbor, Harriet, the walls around his heart slowly break down. I would have given this a 5-star rating but there were a few errors that better proofreading should have caught. I was given an advance copy. This review is my honest opinion.
Logan and Gunner his new dog are trying to settle in with the FBI K-9team as mayham happens around him.
Logan and Gunner are trying to get settled as a new team at the Denver FBI site. He is attached to Addie’s team of bomb dispersal and she isn’t happy he won’t mix with the team. She doesn’t understand as they work to find and get rid of bombs he is terrified that he will lose someone again. But she just won’t leave it be. And she is the one that takes the bombs apart everytime they find one. Gunner is the dog best at finding the explosives. He is being torn apart from the inside at all levels.
