If at first she can't find love, she'll try, try again.
When the clock strikes midnight, getting home from Prince Benedict's ball before the magic ends and her gown turns to rags is far from Emmeline's only problem. There's also the way she keeps tripping down the castle stairs--and the fact that the evening starts all over again as soon as she wakes from her fall.
With a new suitor seeking to sweep her off her feet during each version of the ball, Emmeline finds herself trapped in a cycle that proves to be as much a competition for her own heart and happiness as it is for Prince Benedict's. Choosing her perfect match will bring the evening to a close for all, but to make her selection, she'll have to bend the rules first.
Cinderella meets Groundhog Day in this short story that reimagines the happily-ever-after you thought you knew.
When Amanda was a child, her father traveled frequently for business, always bringing her back a book as a present. Whether she was getting lost in the pages of a tale about far-away knights, girls with supernatural powers, or kindly giants, she was quickly hooked on stories. Nowadays, she writes books of her own.
Amanda lives in the northeastern United States with her family and pet poodle, Snickers. She is a fan of Starbucks lattes, sleeping late, and books with characters that make you go "aww."
I received an ARC of this in exchange for an honest review.
What if the Prince wasn't as great as everyone thought? Emmeline finally gets the chance to attend the ball, and she even gets to dance with the Prince. But he's arrogant and dull. When the clock strikes midnight, Emmeline flees, but she slips in the snow. She awakens to find that the night has repeated. She is dancing with a different man this time. Over and over, various suitors make their appearances. But Emmeline is distracted by someone else...
This Cinderella re-telling is a short story and it's so good! I was worried about the pacing, but it wasn't an issue at all. Emmeline's repeating nights were interesting and I loved how it gave her the opportunity to figure out who was right for her. I was very happy with who she ended up with! Also, I was glad that we got to see some of her backstory as it was really interesting! This was a cute short story with a unique twist on the Cinderella tale!
Anyone who loves a fairytale re-telling should give this a read! It's totally clean so younger readers can enjoy it too! I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a short and sweet read, especially a fairytale re-telling!
In a Cinderella-inspired short story, we join Emmeline in the middle of the prince’s ball after she has snuck in after her stepmother and half-sisters told her she wouldn’t be accompanying them. She dances her way through the noble gentlemen at the ball, getting to know all of them and their faults, and even the prince isn’t the catch that she had expected. But at the stroke of midnight, she escapes the palace only to slide on the icy steps and suddenly finds herself repeating the night, but each time in a different man’s arms. Like an episode of The Bachelorette, she has to find her match and figure out how to escape the cycle.
I loved that even though the story was a re-telling of Cinderella, it stayed fresh by giving it a Groundhog’s Day twist, forcing Emmeline/Cinderella to get to know other people at the ball, rather than just be fixated on the prince. It made the ball feel more real and fleshed out and I loved seeing the faults of all of the characters there. Emmeline herself was mostly what you would expect of a Cinderella, with very little difference outside of the usual mold, same with her stepmother and half-sisters and fairy godmother. I look forward to seeing more inventive twists on old classics.
I loved this short sweet Cinderella story & will definitely read the other 2 by Amanda Marin. What if the prince wasn’t the usual dreamboat? What if Cinderella was stuck in a loop & until she made the right choice? Talk about growing up fast! If you like your YA fairytales sweet and hopeful, this story is for you.
If you love fairy tales then you will love this short story which concerns a “Cinderella” who sneaks to a ball and dances with the prince but finds a title doesn’t make the man! In fact in the spin of Groundhog Day she repeats an hour or so 4 different times but on each succeeding “try” she knows who she really wants to see and be with and finally she is happy.
I happen to love fairy tales and Cinderella still remains my favorite! I cheer for a girl who can rise from the ashes as it were like a phoenix with a little help from her only friend growing up where she is despised and mistreated.
This is my first time reading one of Amanda ‘s books but It won’t be the last! In a country in turmoil I need the escape of a good book and Amanda’s fits the bill for me. I just want to settle back and read something with a happy ending! It recharges my batteries to face the turmoil outside which I have no control over!
If you liked Groundhog Day you’ll love this story as well for that weatherman had to repeat that day over and over until he finally started to see the light and make a change inside of himself to finally discover what he really was searching for. Such it is for many of us I think.
Another Midnight is a retelling of the classic Cinderella tale. The twist on the story being that the clock seems to reset at midnight and she has to relive the night all over again.
It is an interesting take on the time loop trope, because the night is different each time. She dances with a different man and notices new things, so there isn't any of the insipid repetition that tends to bog down narratives of this type.
This novella is on the short side but I found it had far more character development and a much more realistic romantic arch than most Cinderella stories get.
I also thought Marin's twist with Cinderella being illegitimate, thus making her stepmother's abuse a little more explainable, was a brilliant piece of world building. It always bothered me that, the heir could be treated like that. But now she isn't the heir, legally she doesn't exist.
I highly recommend this story to anyone interested in fairytale retellings. And I can't wait to see what fairy tale this author takes on next.

Amanda Marin's synopsis says it all, "Cinderella meets Groundhog Day in this short story that reimagines the happily-ever-after you thought you knew." This short story takes on a classic fairytale and shows that you can choose your own happiness and if you keep an open mind, you can find your true love in the most unlikely of places. Amanda Marin has a way of creating characters that you fall in love with and I truly enjoyed reading this short story.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
I know Amanda is moving on to bigger (and darker) things, but I really enjoy her YA titles. This one was a sweet story that mixes Cinderella and Groundhogs Day. Lots of quirky bachelors to sort through before Emmeline finds her “prince.” Loved it!
Another amazing short story with believable characters, wonderful writing style that is both easy to read and descriptive. Fantastic nods to the fairytale elements of Cinderella while keeping it fresh as she is caught in a time loop. Even though it's a short story, the world felt very real and the story wasn't rushed.
The only thing I didn't like was how short this story was. I'm glad.I wasn't the one going through the reoccurring 30 minutes 4 times. I think I would get rude with whoever I was dancing with & leave to find Tristan. He is.everything a bookaholic would ever want in a man. His father owns a bookstore. He helps in the bookstore. He loves to read. Nothing like snuggling in bed while you both read a book or reading a book to each other. And he wants to go to college to become a lawyer. I don't know about back then but nowadays lawyers make a lot of money. Emmeline is the half sister to two awful sisters. They tell everyone that she's their stepsister. Her stepmom & half sisters treat her like a servant. They dress her in rags. You would never guess they were related. Her friend that cooks for the family gives her a ball gown & specific instructions as long as she gets back before her stepmom. After the first time she experiences a time loop she wakes up dancing with someone else. Which would be really weird. This happens 4 times. She realizes that one of the servers is experiencing it with her. Now they just have to figure out why & how to stop it.

This was a fun and sweet short retelling of Cinderella and I enjoyed reading the book. This is the first short story I read and I would like to read more of them. You can read the book within a short amount of time and it is a easy read. I did miss some depth but you can only expect so much of short story.
The story starts with her dance with prince Benedict who is not quite the person she would like him to be. When she leaves the ball at midnight she falls from the stairs and she wakes up at the ball again dancing with another suitor. Now she had to find a way out of the cycle.
I could predict the ending, but that is something that I do not mind. It is relaxing for me to know the ending and to read how the characters will get to the happily ever after (or not). If you are in the mood for a light en fluffy read than this could be a book you would like.
What do you get when you mix groundhogs day with Cinderella?
This is a short story and a quick read. I found it to be an interesting twist on Cinderella.
This book starts with Emmeline dancing with the prince. He seems to only be interested in showing her his trophies and talking about himself. When she realizes it is close to midnight she runs from the prince, knowing that she has to beat her half-sisters and their mother home. She falls on the stairs and the next thing she knows is that she is dancing with a new partner. And it happens again when she tries to leave.
As quick of a read as this was, the author did a wonderful job telling a fulfilling story. I’ll admit that I’ve grown quite tired of the perfect prince trope, especially paired with the happily ever after ending. I was a bit worried about having to deal with those in this story, but the author thoroughly surprised me! They did a great job retelling this story and emphasizing the choices of the main character and how they would ultimately impact her happiness. I highly recommend this read if you’re looking for a nice retelling of a childhood classic. I received a free copy of this story from Hidden Gems in an exchange for an honest review.
With all the other fairy tale retellings which show the consequences of Cinderella marrying the prince, this is the first to ask the "what if?" before the choosing happens. If the goal is for Cinderella to be happy, why would marrying the prince make her happy? And if the prince would not make her happy, who would? This mashup of Cinderella with "Groundhog Day" allows Cinderella to actually choose real happiness over social consequence, and that makes my reader's heart happy.
I received a copy from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another Midnight is a twist on the original Cinderella story, where Cinderella is mysteriously thrown into the night of the ball over and over again - each time finding herself dancing with a new suitor. It was a short, fun, sweet read that was a new fun twist on a well known fairytale story. Due to the length (5 chapters) and storyline I'd say this was appropriate for younger readers maybe just starting off into chapter book reading.

This Young Adult short story is a twist on the story of Cinderella, combined with an element of the movie Groundhog Day. In this version of Cinderella, we find the night of the ball happening over and over again. Will she be able to figure out what is happening and how to stop it, or will she have to live this night over and over again for the rest of her life? This short story is packed full. I very much enjoyed reading it!
Super short but interesting take on Cinderella. The night keeps repeating itself as at midnight, she trips down the stairs instead of making it back home. I would be very interested in reading a full length book or series built off of this.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy. Good short story! I had never read a YA short story before so I wasn’t sure what to expect as far as character building goes, but I was pleasantly surprised. The twist on Cinderella was unique and detailed. For the amount of pages I thought the backstory was well done. I also appreciated the depth that the different love interests had. The connection between the main character and main love interest was super cute and felt genuine. Even though the same night was happening over again it didn’t feel repetitive. The end seemed a little sudden but I saw the purpose and was satisfied with the ending Overall I really enjoyed reading this story.
