We are born of the stars and we have lost our way home. In a harsh future that may be too close for comfort, overcrowded cities are caged under Dark Matter domes that obliterate the view of stars in the sky. Annie has tried to be the best mother she can be in this brutal world. Her cancer has returned and, with nothing left to lose, she’s willing to risk it all to help her son and save the child of his mysterious girlfriend, Mia. Traveling through a world starkly divided between the rich and the poor, struggling to overcome the limitations of her own body, Annie will fight to find a better place for them all. How far would you go to finally be free?
This is a chilling and disturbing dystopian tale. The fact that it comes close to what our future could be like gives it greater impact.
The story takes place in a world where every aspect of a person's life is controlled, right down to where they're allowed to go, even if they own a car. It deals with themes of corruption, plague and incurable illnesses, along with science and technology gone horribly wrong.
The main thread throughout the story is to do with parental love and the lengths a parent would go to in order to protect their child and give them a good upbringing in difficult circumstances.
It's fast paced and full of action scenes, interspersed with some more thoughtful introspective moments and dream sequences.
