JR Ward and Christine Feehan fans will become enchanted with this deliciously dark and scandalous series by International Bestselling Author Emily Bex. It's everything vampire romances should be made of!
"Blood Covenant combines the hedonistic jet-setting pleasures of BILLIONAIRE ROMANCE and the dirty little secret thrills of a DEAD SEXY VAMPIRE!" - Katalina Leon, USA Today Bestselling Author
"This series is going to HIT THE CHARTS... what an epic tale. Thank you Emily from a NEW FAN!" - Cheryl, Amazon Reviewer
When he met her, he knew how it would end.
Shade Medici, a warrior king and sole male heir to the dynasty, is expected to mate and produce an heir to secure the continuation of the Medici coven. He's waited over five hundred years for the right mate, and when he meets Kate Reese, his attraction is more than primal - it's merciless.
She's also mortal.
Kate is fresh off a broken engagement and reluctant to open her heart, but her hesitations are no match for the unrelenting pursuits of the vampire King. Their passion for each other is searing...and not everyone is happy about it. Namely the ruling Council.
As they fight against deceit, treachery, and those who aim to see their love fail, Shade also struggles to control his impulses as Kate is immersed into his dark and dangerous world, but it's imperative he prepare her for the changes that will be demanded of her should she choose to bind herself to him through the blood covenant. All that scorches and glitters isn't gold, and she quickly learns that falling in love with a vampire King comes at a hefty price:
It may just cost her everything.

Emily Bex is the International Best Selling author of the epic six book Medici Warrior Series. As she says, “Why start small?” She worked for over twenty years in marketing, developing ad campaigns, catalogs, product launches and promotional literature. She figured if she could write creatively about products, then surely she could write something about these characters that were rattling around inside her brain. She currently lives in Virginia, but has used her extensive love of travel, both foreign and domestic, to create the backdrop for her characters to play out their story.
DNF-18% Sadly this one is a DNF for me and though I finished at 18% here as this was an extremely long book (717 Pages) I actually read a fair whack before throwing in the towel. This book just wasn't a good fit for me: though it should have been as I usually love this type of fiction. So firstly I found the style of narration used here hard to get used to. I would have eventually settled into this but I also wasn't that fond of the central characters who to me came across as shallow and self-serving. I need to find some sort of connection to the main players and here I just couldn't. I then found Shade Medici rather cringy when I should have found him sexy and Kate well let's just say we don't have a great deal in common and I have never owned or had any inclinations to possess a pair of Jimmy Choo's and I don't know anyone in my circle who does. Add in If you like the more traditional type of wooing then this could well be a fit for you, me I am more a fan of the caveman approach. Don't let my opinion put you off as this wasn't actually badly written just not my bag. I voluntary reviewed a copy of "The Blood Covenant" All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
It felt like the book was trying to hard to cover all the bases of vampiric lore. They are old world, powerful, driven by and thereby sex, work in covens, and highly territorial. They mate for life which is when blood is exchanged. But the sex swings from sweet to BDSM without feeling satisfying in any way. There is no intensity, no true emotion. There are merely quick glances into very complicated back stories we are never told and characters walking through their roles. It all was very Twilight in terms of feeling and plot. Too simplistic for my taste. There was little pushing the story onwards. There was an astounding amount of thoughts from the characters that quickly became to repetitive and fidelity that was either stilted or to lovey dovey. A lot of stereotypical characters were present: virgin, bitch, power hungry politician, warrior. It just felt way to contrived. And to make matters worse, this is the first of six parts so there is no satisfying conclusion. It simply stops. If it were not a free copy from Voracious Readers, I would not have bothered to read it.
Mmm is this fanfiction? Because the writing style looks like it. Im not saying i hate fanfiction but this book mmm i'm not a fan for the writing style. For the characters, not a fan either. Shade you're not sexy you're cringe buddy. Too long. I feel so tired after finish this book.
I've read many contemporary author's books with vampires (Blake, Fast, Feehan, Grosso, Hardt, Harris, Hartnady, Meyer, Rose, Savino, Ward). So when a new author came on the scene with a great cover and compelling blurbs I was happy to one-click. But the reading wasn't as good as the advertising. Over 700 pages that could have been reduced to 300 had the editor been doing their job. This is not the age of Dickens where the writer gets paid by the word! Scenes do not need to be rehashed from multiple characters point of view. Such formal conversational language, while possibly believable from a 500 year old Italian vampire (although if he can survive in the mortal world you'd think he would get with the times) but not from a 20 something woman in the modern age. No millennial, in the age of text-speak is always going to say "it is" instead of "it's" and would never, ever call her boyfriend "lover". The storyline was passable (billionaire playboy with pain in his past meets shy girl with relationship baggage) but no alpha male "warrior" is going to be as wordy or buy her a pair of Jimmy Choo's. Details are touched on but left unexplained. What could be a great conflict scene is brushed over, as is the cheating. Sadly, I couldn't finish the book, which is extremely out of character for my OCD tendencies. Even skimming through, I just couldn't do it. Hopefully, should this author continue to write, she will get some better people behind her and listen to their hard advice.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
My advice: Give the book a shot if it sounds good to you, but if it isn't speaking to you the whole time, just move on.
...
I wanted to like this book at first, but even in the prologue I knew that I was not going to like the author's writing style. Conversations felt disconnected and repetitive - well the whole middle of the book felt repetitive, how many times will these characters have to reassure each other that they won't leave them? And overall, I just didn't feel like the book flowed well.
Others have mentioned the slow middle of the book, but even when I got closer to the end, it barely got easier for me to read, but I couldn't give my opinion without finishing it through.
I enjoyed that this was a book for adults, and even with the disconnected dialogue (how often do people talk in paragraphs?) I liked how the beginning of the book was setting itself up. But once I hit the lull in the middle I wanted to throw in the towel, constantly, as I finished the book out.
This book has been described as a slow burn romance, but it is more like molasses. I so wanted to enjoy this story/series, but I’m really getting fed up at 46% of book one.
Right now Shade has flogged Kate and is licking her boots. Ick. A turn for the worst. The rational being Shade has a dark side to him that he is afraid of letting loose, as it may kill a human Kate. Her desiring him is letting him lose control, so he needs to discipline her and have her control her desire for him. So he won’t lose control. WTF!? That’s a kind of ‘love’ I want no part of. Can I skip these parts? Does it get any better?
The style of writing is also giving me whiplash. His point of view, then hers. Left, right, left, right nearly after every paragraph. I’m gonna need a chiropractor when and if I ever finish this.
Finally, as another reviewer pointed out. There is really nothing to like about either character. Shade comes off like a conceited stalker, and Kate a whinny wuss with a milk white complexion and red hair.
It’s like taking all the enjoyable components of this genre from other popular books, throwing them all in a pot, stirring and hoping for the best.
On the positive side, if you’re intrigued by this plot so far, the book is long and apparently there are a few more in the series.
Why 2 stars? Cause it takes guts to write such a lengthy book and publish. Someone is gonna like it, but sadly that someone is not me.

An excellent love story with a paranormal kick. Travel, art and history. A delicious tale of vampires in a new light. I can not wait for the next book within this series.
Shade is a 500-year-old vampire who is the Warrior’s Warrior. He is a merciless fighter, he is a King, he is rich, and he is royalty. He contracts to work with another political vampire Alec. He meets a woman named Kate through one of Alec and Larissa’s parties. She is his life mate and he will settle for nothing less than her! She discovers what he is and has many decisions to make! She leaves her life behind to become devoted to him alone! They mate and life is going well! But, they have many enemies set on taking them down..some they would never expect! When a blessing happens the enemies plot to destroy it! Now, Kate has had enough and she wants to train to become a warrior! The book ends in a cliffhanger! I felt that part of the dialogue of just Shade and Kate could have been less, but otherwise, it was a great book!
Emily Bex grabs you from the first page and never lets you go. WOW. I am drawn in to the steamy love story between Shade and Kate. Even the secondary characters are well thought out and developed. The power house first book only leads me to believe that each book will take me further on this journey and I look forward to the next release. I have been a long-time fan of both JR Ward and Lara Adrian, and this looks like it will be another epic series in the paranormal romance genre. It is a modern day story but with historical references throughout. These are not your grandmother’s (or your mother’s) vampires! Well done!
This is an interesting paranormal story. Having said that , I felt it was too long and moved too slowly. I had to skip over at times because it felt repetitive to me. I feel it would have been better with a shorter version. I'll give it four stars for the plot.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
A decent romance if you just want paranormal sex. I kept waiting for a plot or theme and finally gave up.
Had a "refrigerator moment" after giving up on it. If vampires can teleport instantly, and they're worried about humans killing them in their sleep, why not set up a moon base? You might have to deal with the Nazi moon base first, but then once you clean it out it might be useful. ;)
Wait, I should write that book. I hereby claim the idea!
This book was amazing. I love the world of mortals and immortals. This was the best by far. The way Emily writes invites you inside the character! You can feel the emotions of Kate, you can hate the characters as they are intended to be. This is an amazing series.
Choppy I do not understand how this book has so many great reviews. The story might be there but I am so distracted by how awful the book is written and narrated that I can't find the story. Point of views change from one paragraph to the next, but that isn't even a huge deal. The big problem, so I couldn't make it more than 25% of the way through the book, is that there is absolutely zero flow. Both dialogue and thought processes are extremely choppy and quite repetitive as if the author didn't have an editor or forgot what she had literally just said. It is so distracting that it's extremely hard to follow along and understand the what the author and characters are trying to convey. It's like all characters, both old and young, are unable to form coherent thoughts and are unable to speak then above a four year old's speech level. I found myself skipping multiple pages in hopes that everything would smooth out but no such luck. I frequently wondered if this book was written in another language first and poorly translated into English? Is this the first book the author has written and self published? I don't understand how it ever was published if it went through traditional processing. The story line is also extremely unrealistic. Maybe if there was better flow, the characters would have some chemistry or more in depth feelings. As it stands, if you can get through all of the chopped up sentences and dialogue, the characters all fall flat and boring. Incredibly disappointed.
“You love me for me. Without you I would still be lost, for I have found what I was seeking my whole life, my eternal mate…”
“Allow me to introduce myself…my name is Shade Medici.” The Medici Warriors have been long revered and feared. Shade is their Warrior King and has been existing to fight and destroy rogue vampires for 500 years. With the reputation of ruthlessness as a warrior and a lover, Shade has been called to the DC area to help a fellow Master vampire with an influx of rogue vampires. But when Shade finds himself drawn to a beautiful and feisty redhead, his Beast roars that she will be theirs…at any cost…even if she is a mortal…
Kate Reese has been hurt for the last time by a man. Finding out her fiancé cheated on her is the last straw, and she has sworn never to lose her heart again. But when a chance meeting has her bumping into the most striking, yet deliciously dangerous man, Kate’s heart has other ideas…
Shade and Kate are two souls meant to be mated, but will those around Shade accept his mortal bride, or will their very existence be threatened…
Emily Bex has developed a paranormal world that has combined the troupes of the billionaire alpha male with a smexxy vampire. This romantic saga is filled with intrigue, action and romance told from various points of view. Would recommend to fans of vampire romance!
Perhaps I'm a sucker for a vampire story, no pun intended, but I was engrossed after the first few chapters. I won't recap the whole book, you can read the blurb for that. What I will say is it is well-written and I thought the story-line was phenomenal! At first, I was a bit taken aback at the amount of pages but it read as quick for me as a book with many fewer pages. Once I realized the book recapped scenes from different characters POV, it explained the quantity of pages, and it wasn't something I had encountered before but I also felt it enhanced the readers perception of everything each and every character was feeling throughout each event. This only happens selectively, when it's important to know what each character is thinking, seeing or feeling, not every single scene. If you have an intense aversion to colorful language and explicit sex scenes (including a tiny, tiny bit of M/M) then maybe this book is not for you, but if you want a gripping love story, full of bloody action, steamy erotic sex, filled with sexy lovable characters as well as villains you will loathe, and all the highs and lows that come along with that, then hold on tight because you are going to love this book! I have already started book 2, and it's off to a wild start as expected. Don't let the page count intimidate you. You won't even notice once you start reading!
I was looking for some cool fantasy and I discovered a weird mix or parody between Twilight, True blood and 50 shades of Grey and I don't say that in a good way. Empty and shallow characters, long meaningless repetitive dialogue, the plot reveals itself in the first 10 pages, no background info, drivers or anything on the characters. I caught myself laughing out loud at the nonsense of the shallowness of the dialogue and nicknames. While reading I tried to give them voices and I ended up with a very nasal "Karen" voice for Kate and for Shade I ended up with Nandor voice & accent from "What we do in the shadows". Also never use google translate for a language you don't know. The Italian has genders in their words: BEL ROSSO is the masculine translation of beautiful redhead in English, to make it for feminine it would have been BELLA ROSSA. But I'm going to read the next books just to see if the writing and story improves.
This was an unexpected tale of vampires who must "hide in plain site" among us. Of course there is the immediate attraction of the vampire Shade Medici to a mortal girl. Consorting with humans is apparently okay, but bonding yourself to one is not, and that creates the drama for this story. What follows are some sizzling hot sex scenes, which may not be to everyone's taste, mixed in with the conflict of the convergence of the human culture with the vampire culture, as well as the rejection of Shade's choice by the vampire community. There are characters to fall in love with, and characters to hate. There were scenes that made me laugh, and scenes that made me cry. This was a large book, so it's a commitment, especially when you realize the story continues over five more books. It's a journey I look forward to taking however. Bring on book two!
The story was slow and the dialogue was awkward at times. I get that Shade is Italian, but does he really need to say, “si?” after everything he says? There was an overuse of exclamation points as well, so it felt like there was a lot of yelling at weird times. Now for the spoiler, I would have appreciated a trigger warning or something at the beginning of the book. If I knew there was going to be someone murdering someone else’s unborn baby, I probably wouldn’t have read it. The characters were interesting and the story had potential, but it just didn’t work for me. Also chapters 89 and 90 were duplicated…

The Blood Covenant by Emily Bex took me by surprise in the most satisfying way. If you like reading about vampires then this is the book for you. There is no sparkling in the sunshine here, just a whole lot of heat and a burning true love. The characters have flaws, their own weaknesses and insecurities that they have to work through, if they wish to gain the ultimate prize of happiness. But, they also have enemies that could destroy what they have worked for. So come dive into the lives of Shade the Medici Warrior and King and Kate, his Bel Rosso, the human he would give everything for!
Oof. What to say. A good editor could have cut this down from about 700 pages to 300. Very VERY repetitive. We blasted through Shade and Kate’s courting (stalking)… I mean, they did, it took us several hundred pages that could have been trimmed. The pace was challenging, and when a real conflict is finally introduced, it gets left off for the next book, I guess. I’ve always thought the Medicis are a FANTASTIC basis for a vampire story, but this completely missed it. Shade is Medici in name only.
Do you love vampires as old as time, spicy redheads, a world of things that go bump in the night? Then put them all together and you have an exquisitely spicy Paranoramal Love Story in “The Blood Covenant: Book One of the Medici Warrior Series”! Fall in love with Shade and Kate as they figure out how to make two very different worlds come together as one. This is one very titillating journey that fills you up and leaves you feeling a warmth for more.
This is definitely a long, but worth every single letter typed, whirlwind of emotion and intense paranormal romance!!! I put off buying this series as a birthday gift to myself, and it was definitely one of my top gifts (especially since we're in quarantine, LOL). I was able to find the escape from reality that I crave while reading, and was completely satisfied. Happy reading : )
I enjoyed reading this book. Emily Bex has an amazing way of describing locations to where you can almost feel like you're in the story. Shade and Kate have a love story that started quickly and very powerfully that will test the limits time and time again and continuously prove to be worth it. I strongly recommend that you read all the books in the series because each one gets better and better.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The book kept me intrigued each chapter I read . I like the chemistry between the characters. This book has a little bit of everything love, betrayal. The only thing I didn’t like, it was repetition of scenes. The book ends with a cliffhanger. Can’t wait to read the next book of the series.
