Chang is the best painter in all of China, so it's Chang the Emperor sends for when his new temple needs painting. But why is Chang painting dragons without any eyes? Is it true, as he claims, that if you add eyes, painted dragons come to life? This delightful retelling has sweet, simple text and gorgeous illustrations, with plenty for children to spot as Chang paints his surprising dragons.
Lesley dreamed of being a writer, but studied law as her mother insisted she had "something to fall back on". Since joining Usborne Publishing, she has written and edited hundreds of books, from funny rhyming stories to an award-winning history book. Nowadays, she is often found recording books, too, in Usborne's very own recording studio.
The Dragon Painter by Lesley Sims is such a funny little story. It follows Chin as he paints and gets noticed by an emperor! He paints dragons, and hi-jinx ensue!
I recommend this book to any parent who wants to read a short story that's fun and silly and exciting.
This book is really nice and talks about the Chinese culture. The book is a children's book from preschoolers to 2nd grades, but I can see older children enjoying this story about the lunar year and traditional Chinese tale.
There are so many pretty pictures. I even laughed out loud when the dragons got their eyes and everything went crazy. - Lily
I bought this because the cover was gorgeous and the other illustrations held up. The story was lovely, then things went crazy, and there was this totally understated "oops" moment that had me rolling. Apparently no one is going to talk about the escaped dragons?? The story doesn't wrap up nice and tidy, but something about that fact makes me love it more. - Mum
