A fully illustrated introduction to the world of law, for people who haven't read anything about law before. This book is an entertaining and thought-provoking guide to what laws are, who makes them and how people enforce them. It covers crime and punishment as well as social and citizenship issues such as politics and international law, using a mixture of debates, cartoon strips and clear diagrams. Part of Usborne's award-winning 'for Beginners' series, including 'Politics for Beginners' and 'Philosophy for Beginners'.
I have read this book a long time ago so I might not remember everything but let me just tell you, THIS BOOK IS AMAZING.
At the time I was very interested in Law, and came across this book. How perfect, "Law for Beginners". This was a perfect way to start learning more about Law because it contained simple information that I could understand as a kid. Also, the illustrations make it so fun because im not only looking at words, but nice visuals as well.
If you are a kid interested in Law, READ THIS BOOK. You will learn so much.
I mistakenly assumed the book would at least attempt to be neutral, but it is very far left. We know nothing more about the justice system or being a lawyer… About two dozen pages are informative but do not simplify enough, the rest is frankly propaganda- a one sided view being framed as the neutral. The author has no background in law and should not be writing children’s books if she can’t resist inserting her beliefs into educational material. I no longer trust the rest of the series or sadly even Usborne for quality.
I am an adult who couldn't resist to buy this Usborne series for myself. I have learned some fundamental information about laws and legal systems that were not taught in school. Love this book and this series so much, recommend for all the children older than 10 years old. ❤️
Usborne does books for kids but this Law for Beginners book, targeted at the 10+ crowd is written in an accessible but not childish manner and is a good primer even for adults.
Amazing. Fully explained every bit of law, from; court, how laws are made, and even treaties it block everything down into simple, introductory explanation texts. Always makes you want to keep reading. (Emmaline, Age 9)
