They say money can’t buy happiness. Why did I have to learn this the hard way? Tamira thought she was getting it all. The house, the money, the rich husband. Instead all she got was a nightmare. A hopeless romantic, she longed for the day when she could finally marry her knight in shining armor. But after years of neglect and abuse, Tamira is struggling to escape. In steps Louie , her husband’s charming older brother. Sparks fly as the tension builds . By the time the weekend is over none of them will ever be the same again. Someone is going to burn. It’s just a matter of discovering who.
Ehhhhh. So, this book TOLD me about the story as opposed to letting the reader experience it. Like at one point, the author described Tamira as sitting next to Louie at a 90 degree angle from him. Seriously? There were some hot scenes, but the story line itself and how it was told just took the reader out of the book.
3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️I am new to the BWWM fiction but I can say I don’t completely dislike it. The author was able to encapsulate their differences without focusing so much on that dynamic. But I didn’t know there would be cheating. It is one of my hard limits so it immediately took me out of the story. When reading the blurb I assumed there would be cheating from the husband, not the wife. I know it says sparks fly ,but that doesn’t mean full on penetration in the next room from your husband. The husband was verbally abusive and an overall horrible human being. This did not have the drama I anticipated and it kind of read like a review of a book not a book at certain points. Like the 90 degree angle comment and the perspective jumps. Overall not bad read just not for me.
But since this is a romance let me give my friends the run down
- Lots of OW/OM
- cheating galore
-public sex
- bdsm introduction
- no condoms/bc
-extensive background from H & his multiple partners
-May/December (20+ year gap)
- 1 epilogue a couple months out

This is a dark romance - Tamira is presented as a commodity for an arranged marriage - an innocent young woman from a wealthy family, with an emphasis on her physical attributes. Broady is her husband and Louie is his older brother. This story has the makings of a good tale. I like that the characters are multicultural, there is a lot of dialogue & insight into the minds of the main couple and some detailed descriptions about the settings. There are some inconsistencies - for example, a 30ish, rich & intelligent woman should know where to buy clothes and what to wear to a charity event. The inner thoughts of the characters change from one person to the next abruptly, at times in the same paragraph. I would have liked for Louie's dominance to be consistent and more details about their cultures/ethnicities. Tamira is not as cold as the blurb implies - I didn't get the impression that she married for more money. This short story moves quickly with several scenes of intimacy, heavy on the lust. 3.5 stars I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I liked the novella. The whole BWWM thing is new to me but it was fine. It's only 65 pages long so obviously, it doesn't get too in-depth with the girl's roots. Still, we were told enough about her side along with her husband's to know their backstory. I liked Tamira(the girl) but didn't love her because there wasn't much to her, at least we were shown only half of her personality. The narration was pretty straight-forward but boring; it's interesting enough to keep you on it. The steamy scenes were nice and hot but a few of them I had already read in too many NA books to appreciate(you will know exactly which ones if you read).
The author kept the characters to a minimum which I really appreciated because it's a novella. I understand that due to the short length, the plot was kept simple but interesting but I thought it doesn't really fall into the Dark Romance category. It's more of a short, slightly taboo, half NA, half age-gap romance. There was nothing dark in it. I received a review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts are my own and completely unbiased.
This is a short and steamy read. I found this book to be just okay. I didn't understand the purpose of the arranged marriage between Tamira and Broady. Since her family was already rich why did they need his money too? I really like Louie, he helped Tamira see that she was worth more than the way that Broady was treating her. I would have liked a little more to the story, but it was an okay quick read.

I have to say I was really disappointed in this book. I've never read anything in the BWWM trope before, and I was really looking forward to exploring this relationship and the challenges that would come with it. Unfortunately, there wasn't really much of a relationship. Additionally, while I absolutely LOVE an age-gap romance, I couldn't get in to this one, because the female character is in her late-20's, and the male character is in his 50's. I prefer an age gap where the age is a little bit closer, and the couple still has the opportunity for more than these two would. Not that you can't have a full relationship, including children, after the age of 50, but it doesn't have the same feel as someone in their 30's or 40's. That's just my opinion on it. Yes, the intimate parts of their relationship are spicy, but I much prefer substance to go with my spice, and this didn't deliver it for me.
I did manage to finish this book, but mostly because it was a novella, so I knew it wouldn't be very long. On the flip side, had it been a full length novel, I think there could have been more room to really explore some more depth between all the characters, and I may have enjoyed that.

Louie was a great character. He was encouraging, supportive, and creative. He exposed Tamira to things that she has been lacking. I enjoyed it when they are along and interacted with each other. I LOVED the gift he gave her and how it was used. Tamira was sheltered as a wife, which allowed her to be treated badly and abusively. I felt Broady was a little on the flat side. I never understood why others feared him.
I'm not a fan of quick love affairs and unrealistic time frames. In this case, Louie knew what he could have possibly had and wanted to see if he truly made a mistake.
I figured out what was going to happen shortly into the story. I felt like it could be more twists and turns to make the reader wonder. I didn't think it was a dark romance nor was there any revenge. Louie just claimed what was his.
It's an easy read, but it held my attention till the end. I would recommend it to my BWWM reading friends.

I found the story 'Mine' to be a bit complicated. I liked the speed of the book. The heat between the characters is undeniable.
I found the character of Broady to be one dimensional. That didn't take away much from the story, so it seems to be the author's intent.
It also was strange to me how Tamera stayed in her situation. While married young, 10 years is a long time with no apparent growth up or out. As being a business major, why could she not help her family once married? Again, this could just be this reviewer's inexperience or knowledge of the culture of domestic abuse. I would have liked more depth into her character.
Louie is a character that I found easy to like, though his motivation was suspect in the beginning.
This is a fairly short story, and it is not easy to figure out what is going on at first. The concept of an arranged marriage between an Irish man and an African American woman did not make much sense to me, and if her family was already rich, why did they need his money? The writing lacks grammar and intelligent word choice.
However, it becomes obvious that the whole point of this story is a very sexy affair with the husband's brother. Our isolated and abused (?) heroine is rescued and happy.
I guess I should not read this stuff expecting high literature.

This was a very short read. I can't believe that Tamira was so naive which was unbelievable. Although this was a fictional story the heroine was weak. I could have enjoyed it more if there was a bit more spunk to her character. I thought Broady's character was too controlling that he treated his wife as if she was trash. And then the brother shows up to bring some life altering chances to her sex life. I'm not quite sure how to rate this story, but I gave it 3 ⭐️'s.
Wow ! one of the most hot and spicy short story I have read this year, a modern Cinderella 2.0 story but with strong alphas and one who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. When Louie come into Tamara & Brodie life, everything she believe in, is really turn upside down. I love how Tamara see life in a new light and let herself dream. It has just the Right blend of spicy and sexy moments. I highly recommended it, you won’t regret it.
I always enjoy Ms. Houston’s fast and furious reads. Tamira has been married for a while to a boorish man. Years ago, their families brokered a deal so that she would marry one of the brothers; Tamira ended up with the worst end of the deal. But now Louis is back and realizes his mistake. He is ready to claim the woman HE should have married. And CLAIM her he does.
This was a great short story with just right amount of juicy details. Tamira and Broady have been married for years but she is unhappy and lonely. Broadys estranged brother Louie comes by to discuss an aunts passing. At being ignored, as usual, Tamira eats up Louies attention. A torrid affair starts but ends with love between the two. Great read !!! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Nah, this was meh af. Don't mention bdsm in books if you have no full knowledge of it and barely actually use it in the book- it's more than that. Things just happened so fast that it made no sense but luckily this was short so I didn't have to drop it because I would have if it was longer. This was my first Houston book and we are not off to a good start. I will give another chance though but so far, not a fan.
Tamira and Broady were not a well-matched couple. Broady was immature and a bully. Tamira was way too good for him. When Broady’s brother, Louie, comes to visit, Tamira realizes there can be more to life than what she has and that she deserves more. I was glad when she stands up for herself.

Let's just say I feel some type of way about this book and will just give the author the benefit of the doubt that my perception is flawed/tainted/bias/skewed do to the social climate of today's society. Form an opinion for yourself.
Nice LOL It's a quick read, but very enjoyable...LOL. The charity ball took the cake for me (wild...LOL). I can't wait to read more from Nicole Houston
