Deck the Demon

Rate this book
A Paranormal Christmas MM Romance.

It’s Christmas, and Archangel Gabriel wants to deck his demon with boughs of holly and have a merry little Christmas with him.

Gabriel hasn’t been able to stop thinking about Jasper, his brother’s PA, since he met him. He’s trying to do something about it, but so far, none of his dinner summons have worked, and he’s eaten too many meals with random demons.

Jasper has no idea what to think when Satan tells him Gabriel wants a date with him, but when Satan asks for something, he gets it. That’s the only reason Jasper agrees to go on a date with Gabriel.

The problems start when Gabriel tells Satan he and Jasper are dating even though they aren’t, and when he agrees to organize a Christmas dinner Riley, Satan’s boyfriend, was planning on taking care of before his plans changed. It’s Gabriel’s chance to heal his relationship with his brother, and hopefully, to make Jasper see how well they work together, even though one belongs in Heaven while the other belongs in Hell.

Will Gabriel and Jasper get their own Christmas miracle?

Deck the Demon is a Christmas story featuring the Archangel Gabriel, a dead soul who is very happy in Hell, thank you very much, an always grumpy Satan, and a cat who might or might not be possessed by the Archangel Michael.

Catherine is the creator of several series, most of them paranormal, including the Whitedell Pride Series and the Gillham Pack Series. While she graduated in translation, she decided to go the writer’s way because it was more fun to create her own stories and characters.
She’s been living in Italy for more than twenty years, but she’s a daughter of the North—Belgium to be precise—and she misses it so much that she’s already planning to move back.
She loves pizza—probably too much —her pets, and of course, books. She sneaks some reading time in her schedule every time she has five minutes free from writing, demands from her various pets and son, and lastly, housework.

Another cute little paranormal romance

I liked this one more than the first one. It seemed to have a more structured approach to the relationship between Archangel Gabriel and dead Hell inhabitant Jasper.

It was still really sweet, still low angst, low steam, and it flowed more easily, although there was still a lot of unnecessary repetition about how impossible the relationship was.

It also had a couple of continuity errors from the little free short, Sybil was the soul locked up in Hell, not Gladys. Still, a minor point that doesn't distract from the main romance.

Jasper and Gabriel are cute together.

This was the continuous from Satan Claus coming to Town. I was excited to start this one because of how I enjoyed Satan’s story. This book was enjoyable but I liked Satan’s book better. I feel like all the characters weren’t who they were from the previous book except for Riley and Jasper. Satan felt a little grumpy and off even though he was a gentle and sweet in the previous one 🥴🥴 I also feel like the love development between Jasper and Gabriel was dragged out for so long even though it was a simple fake dating trope. And I didn’t get how Gabriel was already head over heels for Jasper in the beginning. There was no backstory on that. I could see their connection but it wasn’t that exciting. The writing was okay, but I can see it now, the repetition was obvious just like mentioned in the other reviews.

3.5 Stars.

This was enjoyable. I still think these books could be shorter. And I think I’ve realized why. The characters are constantly repeating themselves and reexplaining what’s going on and why things are the way they are. I caught myself rolling my eyes at the book several times because of it. Like OK! WE GET IT!! lol

Review:
I think I enjoyed this one a little more than the first (Satan Claus is Coming to Town)! It had a bit more angst and build-up of the feelings and felt a bit more believable to me. It felt a little less Christmas-y, but it still took place around the holidays and Christmas celebrations. Gabriel, the angel, was cheery, hopeful, and energetic. Jasper, the dead soul condemned to Hell, was more grounded and angsty. They were cute together. Satan and Riley had a big presence in the book since Satan and Gabriel were trying to work on their relationship (they're brothers), which was also sweet. Overall it was another cute paranormal Christmas romance!

*Even though each book focuses on different characters, I recommend reading Satan Claus is Coming to Town first. Otherwise, you might be a bit confused about some background and characters.*

*Rating: 3.5 Stars // Read Date: 2020 // Format: Ebook via TTS*

I’m not sure if I want a Michael redemption story or not. I preferred the first story for the characters. This one didn’t feel like anything new. Gabriel the angel and Jasper the dead PA fake dating. I liked Satan and Gabriel trying to repair their relationship. At first I didn’t think Michael was too bad since he did get Riley and Satan together. Now I think he really meant to kill him and everything was an accident. Favourite part was the beginning demon summoning.

I really enjoyed the first book, Satan Claus Comes to Town, so I was delighted to see Gabriel's story in Deck the Demon which picks up a year after the events between Satan and Riley. Gabriel is Satan's angelic brother who briefly appears in the the first book. He meets Jasper, a demon or so he thinks, when he visits Hell and develops a crush on him. He wants to pursue a relationship with Jasper so he summons demons to try and find Jasper so he can join him for dinner. Unfortunately, he keeps summoning the wrong demons.

Jasper is a dead spirit and Satan's personal assistant in hell and has spent 200 years in hell for his crime on earth. He will never be redeemed. He has to figure out who keeps summoning demons and why they keep re-appearing. Finally he tells Satan about the problem and Satan figures out that it's his brother that's doing all the summoning.

Events and mishaps occur as Jasper and Gabriel go on their first date. But luckily they're able to work through everything and realize that they should give the relationship a chance even if one partner is dead and the other is an angel :) Lovely follow-up story to Satan and Riley's story from the perspectives of Gabriel and Jasper :) Loved the title and it was such a cute and hilarious read!

Look, I low-key loved the first book, “Satan Claus is Coming to Town,” so I think that I might have plunged into this with my expectations too high. Deck the Demon was...good, and it had its funny moments, but it didn’t have the same charm and hilariousness of its precursor. I loved both of the MCs individually, but Jasper’s treatment of eager-to-please Gabriel began to wear on me after a while. I just wasn’t ultimately convinced about their romance after all of that. I began to get bored several times, sadly. Loved revisiting Satan and Riley. I’m not sure how well this functions as a stand-alone because I think that you would miss some of the jokes. That’s ok, because Satan Claus is worth a read lol.

DNF @68%... and getting that far was painful. This one DRAGGED, mostly due to almost every other paragraph repeating the same idea - some version of "oh no how could it work because Gabriel was an archangel who wasn't supposed to be in Hell and Jasper was a human who wasn't supposed to leave it" - almost word for word, over and over and OVER. 😖😖😖

I thought the first short, Satan Claus, was soooooo cute, so I was excited for this one, but it became such a slog that I stopped caring and had to give up.

I assume from the author's bio that English isn't her first language, and I think that may contribute to how stilted the writing felt... but that repetition issue? I just could NOT.

The follow up to Satan Claus follows Satan's assistant Jasper, who is a soul stuck in hell, and Satan's angel brother, Gabriel.
I enjoyed being back with Riley and Satan and that Gabriel had his own story, but it got a tad repetitive for me. Every so often it was either Jasper saying it wouldn't work long term or how Gabriel wanted to make it real. I liked the parts with Michael, he added a fair amount of drama

Not awful. Not amazing either. I think it would've been much shorter if it hadn't been quite so repetitive. The words "King of Hell" -- 28 times. "in Hell": (as in "living in Hell," "belongs in Hell, "stuck in Hell" etc.) -- 69 times. "Archangel" (often in conjunction with something along the lines of "but I live in Hell and you're an...") -- 76 times. Yeah. A little repetitive.

didn't like this one as much as book 1 since I felt so much of this book was repetitive. literally a lot of the words and phrases repeated too much. could use tighter edit IMO.
